    Between Karnath having a lack of farmers and a person being "more likely to meet a missionary than a farmer" in Thrane, I feel like a lot of folks in Khorvaire are really underestimating the importance of agriculture...

    Remember these nations used to be a single country that spanned an entire continent, and Khorvaire has a much more solidly developed transportation infrastructure thanks to House Orien and Lyrandar, so Karrnath had pretty ready access to food grown in the much more fertile regions of Aundair, Breland, and Cyre, since Karrnath’s climate is basically Prussia/Russia, but with large swaths of the countryside that just produces horrific monsters that crave the life force of the innocent.

    When we played we had a random chance for Grey Mist which prevented healing, and could cause an almost permanent condition of no healing. It would come and go and made some fights pretty scary. It was the GM's homebrew so he could tweak it for different leveled parties.

    For my Tomb of Annihilation adventure, I ran it in Xen'drik (south of Khorvaire) and the whole point of it was the players where trying to stop the mcguffin of the adventure because it was the weapon that destroys Cyre.

    I want to add some clarification about Karrnath that comes from the 5e book: Many rejected large religions like The Silver Flame or Sovereign Host, and turned to the Blood of Vol. The large part of the population that worshipped the Blood of Vol did use undead as labour, guards, or military. However, many believe using undead was a "quantity over quality" additude that shined poor light on Karrnath's prideful, disciplined martial background. So there is some controversy about the use of undead in the nation.

    Khorvaire is the most detailed part of Eberron because it is clearly North America stand-in. Write what you know. Sure, it's quite culturally diverse, and being fresh out of war also takes much from western Europe, but at its core, its mostly Americas. Decimated locals, widespread (magical) technology, corporate dominance all resemble USA's history, with focus on Gilded Age. Hell, even the thing with Khorvaire being the last place where Sovereign Host is worshiped, with Sarlona being under godless Inspired rule, says something. Sorry if I sound salty about this - its just that Khorvaire may not be that relatable to many outside Western world.

  • @mathisunderwater3429

    @mathisunderwater3429

    I will agree with being heavily western - though historically many nods or deeper involved with europe then the americas - with Karnath being reminisant of germanic roots with the wolf/eagle imagry, Aundaire is flat out france [check out the city of lights and its layout and name] . The elves of Valenar are more like the huns (displaced mongol tribes, striking a claim in europe after mass raids) - Khorvaire is western wholeheartadley, but Breland seems to be the most american by far - its full of tons of historical references which I love about ebberon

    Continued : But Khorvaire has some other intreguing elements, as the Lhazzar Principapilities holds more in common with the Carribean, Eldeen Reaches has a large orc population with are very respected and asian in nature with lots of druids (if any of these are innacurate I apologise): apparently dwarves fathered the first samurais from the mror holds, and the goblins were an original power of civilization before humans. My only point is, Khorvaire has room, and if you want to explore more asian culture and themes, take elements out of such environments - trade, war, magic etc. It just takes exploring small things, and fleshing them out (example - the rice farms of japan were a huge staple of power and lead to samurai and the protection of leadership, would Aundair have a similar situation for being the largest in terms of farming?)

    This world's lore is very well defined. It's just about putting together clues, seeing how things match, and enjoying mysteries. It's a lot less about heroic battles against good and evil, or god's suddenly dying. It is much more about how mysteries and cultures shape the world around them.
