Exploring Dundee's Abandoned Port Headquarters

Ойын-сауық

In this video, we explore Dundee's abandoned port authority headquarters, once one of the largest harbour offices in Scotland, dating back to the mid 1800s. The two buildings contain old features preserved despite their city-centre location.

The developers went out of business sadly. Hopefully it doesn't disappear in a "freak fire" as so many old Dundee buildings do to make way for dreary, pre fab flats.

Great video lads. I live 35 miles north of here and had my business in Dundee for many years and have passed this building many many times and never really gave it a second thought until now. What an outstanding building it must have been in its day and it would be a shame to see it get demolished like many of Dundee's older buildings. Got to also say the quality of your productions and editing just keeps getting better with every video as your new intro shows. Thanks lads.

seeing this makes me mourn the loss of the old abandoned furniture store that burnt up last november in the city centre. knowing that that building couldve held some lovely little secrets like this is really unfortunate to think about. its been months since the council knocked down the remains of the building and now its just a caged up spread of land covered in gravel.

I’ve always wanted to see inside this building since I was a kid. I used to have a flat at the Quay and drove past this building every day to get to and from my flat. Next door to this building is an apex hotel which for a good while was the most luxurious hotel in the centre of Dundee. When Malmaison announced they were going to open a hotel in the city, they showed interest in this building but believing Malmaison would take a chunk of their custom and probably because once renovated, it would be a better option for visitors. So the Apex bought the building stating they were going to expand their hotel into the property creating a boutique style hotel. Once the sale had gone through, apex did absolutely nothing with it. They didn’t even maintain it. Prior to this, the building still look relatively usable from the outside but the apex wanted it to go to ruin in my opinion. FYI Malmaison weren’t deterred and purchased a bigger property just down the street which used to be the old Tay hotel. It’s now being turned into a gated community of apartments. Doubt much of it will be recognisable once it’s done. Just some further info for anyone that wants it.

Exactly, when he said at 4:52 that he can't understand why a harbour master would need such architecture it showed his lack of knowledge of history, something I assumed urban explorers would have an interest in. In the 1800's everything was built by the best to look the best, none of this "lowest bidder" crap that plagues the world now.

Also, did you happen to get into the old arnotts department store? Which was later split up with a large portion of it being turned into a Zara? That closed during the pandemic and was used as a vaccine centre. The building is actually huge and although the lower parts are stores. The upper levels are untouched from the arnotts days. The name escapes me night now but it was a department store when it first opened and had an Edwardian cafe that is huge. Once arnotts opened, the cafe was sealed off and left untouched. It’s still there untouched to this day. This is another building/partial building I’ve wanted to see all my life. Tbh most of the old buildings in the centre of Dundee are vacant above ground level. There must be so much history and features just sat there.

This old building is in my home town which I stay in and at the moment it’s being cleaned out and is in progress to be turned into flats. It’s a great video of the inside of such an iconic building in Dundee. It’s just a pity our local brain dead, scumbag, vandals don’t think the same way, and just like to destroy and trash our old abandoned buildings because it’s the only way they get there kicks and they don’t know any better ways to amuse themselves..
