Tense Escape from Abandoned Camera Factory

In this video, we head into former buildings of an abandoned photographic chemical factory. We would encounter workers in the later stages of our exploration, who trapped us inside a disused laboratory forcing us to make a drastic escape!

Something kind of sad about making a video of an old film chemical factory using digital cameras. It's like documenting it's demise with the very thing that killed it.

  • @mrlister2000

I know where you were, as this is not that far away from me. It's the former Kodak camera film processing plant. Due to the change in the way people took photographs, ie mobile phones and tablets, the factory closed in 2006 with the loss of 85 jobs. The 35-acre site was sold in 2007. The Futures lorry which you show in your video, that company was still operating a chemical recycling facility up until very recently. They are demolishing the whole site now bit by bit, they are about halfway through flattening it. However, that whole site was contaminated with various chemicals, powders and worse of all, Asbestos, much of which you were walking through. When on the roof, the new building you filmed was Matalan's new head office and distribution centre

This was intense! I loved the animation you had - wouldn't have realised just how close you were to getting caught without it. I was expecting someone to shout "Oy! Come ere!" In a thick Northern accent as you were making your escape down the stairs but the gamble paid off lads. Great explore and would love to see the animation in the future!

You guys should get a small mirror on a extending stick for checking corners and such. Also a small fisheye snake camera to check through cracks or under doors. The fact you put a little map up during the escape is awesome but you guys could do it so much cooler with a few tools. It's essentially the same stuff I used to check for ieds and stuff in Afghanistan. Works awesome for spider holes and checking for people you don't want to meet.

Incredible work with this one guys! Love these industrial sites! So awesome to see a place like this with so much intact too. I always find myself thinking of the people who knew what all the controls were for.. Appreciate the infiltration POV, people don't realise the effort you have to put in to access these places and some really beautiful rooftop views too! A tense escape! Loved the addition of the minimap. I would have probably done the same as you. Always better to wait it out and then make a calm exit when a chance presents itself. Running only makes things worse.

Loved the entire content and the animation allowing us an overview of everyone's movements, but the moment that red dot appeared I thought 'Oh Sh*t'. The way you made your escape was amazing and so bold too, you have a lot more guts than this old engineer who one minuet I am loving all the pipe work and vessels and controls, then the next I am in the middle of the 'Great Escape' Well done lads and thanks again for all the effort you put into your craft. Anyway, yet another gripping feature! I love the industrial site for their interesting machinary, maze of pipeworks and immense spaces that these sites cover, both inside & out. Great touch with the amimation, it give a clearer idea of the colation you were in, and of cause how close you were from being seem, so great idea! Would love to see it again. Can I just say I have been watching lots of different abandoned urbex channels and you guys are in my opinion the best. Some American explorers just keep repeating themselves and spend way too long on one room, then some of the other English urbex are very crude with their humour and seem very inappropriate, I like that you guys keep to the topic and don’t need to be crude to show off. You all seem like genuine well mannered young guys and I absolutely LOVE your channel 🙌🏼

Never underestimate wearing hi vis, a hard hat and carrying a clipboard. If you are obvious, people assume you are supposed to be there. Having a lanyard of an asbestos checking company, a mask and some random piece of handheld equipment, just tell them you are checking for asbestos. You'll be amazed at how they'll leave you well alone.

Wonderful footage and lovely to see two young men enjoying themselves. I used to do precisely this with my friend Bertie back in the '70s, of course back then if you were caught you would catch a hiding and be frogmarched straight back home! The trick, unsurprisingly, was to not get caught - Bertie and I would hunker down in any little hidy hole we could find until the workers left, which would sometimes take many hours. Back then we didn't have fancy cameras or phones so we would entertain ourselves by fucking.

I'm amazed that worker didn't see or even hear you run down those stairs. Must have been a satisfying escape. If it were me I'd have probably tried to distract the workers. I'd have gently knocked on one of the wooden doors or one of the walls in the hopes that they would go to investigate or it would make them look up for a few seconds, then I would have made my escape down the same route you took. I wouldn't have done anything too major because I wouldn't want to disrupt their work. If they saw me, they saw me. I would have had to explain what I was doing and hope that they are nice about it.

FYI, Trespass is a civil infraction. If you are caught trespassing, just agree to leave. Nobody, not even the police can ID you for trespass. The only time it becomes criminal is when you refuse to leave or come back - then it's aggravated trespass and you can be ID'd and arrested for it. Thing is, the workers can't touch you, even if they found you, they couldn't man-handle you in any way, that's simple battery at a minimum. So if you're ever in this situation again, don't worry about it. By all means, try and get out unseen, but if they catch you, ho hum.
