Exploring Bali's South Coast (and giving my honest opinion) 🇮🇩
Today's adventure in Bali took me on a journey through the island's stunning south coast on my trusty 110 cc scooter.
My first stop was a place marked as "Waterblow" on Google Maps. That sounded interesting, so I did some research and found out it was a place where the waves crash into some craggy rocks and shoot high up into the air.
The photos I saw looked incredible, but the reality was much less impressive. I went on the wrong day and time, it seems. It all depends on the tide.
I continued my journey along the south coast to the region of Uluwatu. It took me much longer than it should have to get there because I kept getting lost.
It's difficult to navigate on a motorbike when your phone is in your pocket and you don't know the roads. I kept having to stop an consult Google Maps, which kept advising me to take roads that were like footpaths.
I eventually got to my destination, which was the Uluwatu Temple, an ancient Hindu place of worship built on the edge of a massive cliff.
Normally if I knew I'd be visiting a place like that I'd go there wearing trousers, but I'd learned from the reviews on Google Maps that they rent you sarongs for free. So I could comfortably turn up there in shorts.
The temple itself was nothing spectacular and no worshiping was going on when I was there. The highlights were more the awesome view from the cliff and the hundreds of monkeys roaming around.
Before returning to Nusa Dua I went on the hunt for a secluded beach that 's famous for having a washed up shipwreck on it. Pantai Nunggalan, or "Nunggalan Beach," is only accessible with a drive down some narrow roads and then a 15 minute hike on foot through a forest on a steep cliff.
The effort it takes to get there means that very few people were on the beach, which was amazingly beautiful other than one thing. The beach is covered in trash.
I believe the trash gets washed up from the sea each day and because this beach isn't maintained by anyone, it never gets picked up.
The washed up shipwreck was cool. I've seen it in other people's Instagram photos in the past, so now it was my turn to get a selfie with it. And it looked different, as over time the graffiti on it is updated by new artists.
I left the beach and trekked back up the cliff so that I could ride the scooter back to Nusa Dua before sunset. I'm not confident riding a bike in the dark at all.
After returning the scooter to the rental shop on my street, I visited a local warung, a small family owned restaurant.
The menu item that looked appealing to me was "Cumi Mentega" which translates to "Butter Squid." I enjoyed many Butter Chicken dishes in India so I wondered if this would be equally as tasty.
It was!
It wasn't my favourite day of travelling but ending it with a delicious meal felt good.

I think a lot of KZreadrs get this wrong.. every video doesn’t have to be something fun and exciting.. just driving around with you on your scooter and exploring with you, “fun” or “not fun” is still an awesome video!! Sometimes the videos were not much at all happens are some of the best

i think the charm about his videos are the fact that its barely edited at all and it actually feels like you're travelling and not just seeing the best parts of whatever
Dale, one unique thing about your channel is that you don't have to visit the most exciting places in the world to make it interesting. I personally just like to see you walking around and give your honest opinion. Really, no pressure to find the most peculiar/amazing places, just be yourself! YOU are the main selling point in this channel imho. Many of us are locals who already know amazing places and hidden gems in our own country, we just want to see your reaction!
Exactly why I love and recommend these videos to all… the raw, unedited and honest footage is why your man from the ‘Tartan land’ is categorically unparalleled to any other travel vlogger. Keep creating and keep inspiring us all.
Dale, even when things seem like a bust - it's still interesting for those of us who will never get to places like this. At least we know we really aren't missing anything. LOL Seriously it's just cool to have a look around and seeing what you are experiencing - good or bad. It is very sad to see so much trash in lovely places, I feel the same as you about that. Glad you are real about places you go.
Watching you hanging around with a bike is like reminiscing the moment when you're traveling in Lake Toba. Legend!
Happy New year Dale, had a tough but great year, in one year I beat cancer, walked the Camino de Santiago and climbed the highest mountain in the British Isles and started a youtube channel and became a grandpa. Not too bad. Wish you a great year Dale.

I remember going to the Waterblow in Nusa Dua during the pandemic, it was abandoned and you could literally just walk in without paying. Experiencing Bali during the pandemic was sad to see but not having any tourists around made being on the island more special.

@@neneknelti5862 dia bilang dia berkunjung ke waterblow saat pandemi, dan saat itu tidak ada penarikan tiket alias gratis, pengalaman di bali selama pandemi cukup menyedihkan tapi tanpa adanya turis disekitar membuat pulau bali terasa spesial (serasa libruan pribadi). itu yg di bilang, dan gunakan Mr (untuk tuan) bukan Mrs (Nyonya). dan turis tidak suka dipanggil secara formal dgn sebutan mr or mrs mereka lebih suka di panggil pak / bu untuk yg lebih tua (sir or mam) atau pria dan wanita untuk anak muda (gentleman or ladies).

I've been to waterblow two times, at first waves was very big even it hits the monument where you stand, but the second time there was literally no wave at all. So next time you visit waterblow you have to check the wind forecast first

Well actually, it's not just a tourist attraction, Dale... There was a famous dance show called "Uluwatu Kecak Dance" and it was nobated as a best Kecak Dance show in Bali. Some temples also have a Kecak Dance show, but the best one is on Uluwatu Temples 👍🏻😉
many Hindu people believe menstruating women are so pure that they're 'worshipped' as a 'living goddess' during that time of the month, and therefore a menstruating woman cannot enter a temple as her energy will attract that of the murti, and the murti will become lifeless.

You should tell the locals (where you bought teh botol) about the situation with the trash. I don't think they visited there often to know what it's like now. I guess it wasn't like that before. In Bali on certain months, certain beaches, the trash from the sea (could be thrown away from ships or other place) got carried to the beach by wind. Beside that, visitors just too lazy to collect their own trash. Seems like there are nobody to clean up after all the business there have been shutted down.
That place where you started is very nice, different than the rest of Bali. I have been there recently and enjoyed the beach area there

Ancient wisdom has said ( and I agree) we can become addicted to " experience " & our needs to have it this way or that way. Life may be best lived with few to no expectations. This film was absolutely lovely. I loved the monkeys and the cliffs. And seeing some of Bali from a scooter --- Obviously we don't all like the same content but viewers understand there is balance in life. We can't be thrilled everyday or we wouldn't enjoy being thrilled. It would become " normal". Peace

you could always have your headphone plug into your phone if you wanted to stick to the budget, or ask at bike rents that you can borrow one if they provied mounts, you'll never know with a fee. But i enjoy your blogs whether your plans fail or not, you show the honist side of touring. Happy new year Dale.
Dale you should visit some of the amazing waterfalls in bali. Suwat waterfall is an amazing one if you wanted to get in for a swim and Nung Nung waterfall is also amazing. And also there is so much to do on a nearby island called nusa penida. 😊Happy New year
