Exploring an Abandoned Scottish Hospital with Working Power

Ойын-сауық

In this video we enter the abandoned Woolmanhill hospital with power that has been closed since 2017. The building is suffering from natural decay but a lot of the equipment inside still functions to this day.

I used to work in reception on the ground floor before it closed. For a good few years the only clinic left running was the Ear Clinic on the top floor before it got moved to ARI. We were glad as a lot of patients struggled to get up the 3 flights stairs and the only lift broke so easily because people kept driving their massive mobility scooters inside despite us warning them not to. 6:38 is the break/staff room. 13:03 is the main reception area, lift was to the right.

Really interesting to see.I had been there as a medical student. The stickers you thought were post it notes are in fact stickers from hearing aid batteries and the things you thought might be waiting rooms in the radiology dept will be changing rooms for patients before their x-ray. Thanks for the video.

Woolmanhill is a blast from the past, old A&E department that closed in 79, inpatient beds till 1999. Clinics for ENT, eyes, audiology, GU Medicine, then slowly wound down and closed. The whole place suffered due to the wind down, maintenance ignored and fell onto disrepair. Hoping they manage to keep some of the architectural details of the inside especially the staircase under the dome in the Simpson Pavilion.

The room with the battery stickers on the wall is not a consultants room. It was the repairs room, where the folk of Aberdeen would come to collect batteries, have impressions of the ear taken, etc. A really cramped space to do the work. Thanks for the video.

This was interesting to watch, thank you! It's cool that workers being there was to your advantage! I wondered if they had turned off the alarms before you mentioned it. The little tiny rooms in the x-ray department are for outpatients to undress before their x-rays and then dress again afterwards. In the Bristol Royal Infirmary there are two little booths like that with doors on both sides(one inside and one outside the x-ray room) so that one patient can enter and undress whilst the previous patient is still dressing - this speeds up time between patients so they can get as many x-rays done per day as possible.

one of your riskier visits from what Ive seen of your vids so far. You did well not to get caught. A great exterior design and I fear that will be absolutely trashed in the redevelopment, leaving only the dome in some zooped up form remaining in the new monstrosity. It amazing how fast the decay sets in. Good that you were able to visit, its great to see inside these abandoned places

Hi there I was one of the people who emptied out the hospital in 2017 at that time it was only one building that was used we took all of the furniture ie beds and the likes to woodhill hospital the chairs weren’t taken because of the lack of use for for them at the other side due to there being chairs there already. It’s very interesting what it looks like now cheers

Have recently found your videos. They are really interesting. And as good as many documentaries. I like your comments. It just shows the biggest vandals are the ones who abandon these places. ..schools..erc. all that valuable equipment and books and hard work cast aside .they say there is no money around. Your filming is sometime the only good thing that comes out of this neglect.well done.

Brilliant video! It would be amazing if you could get access to the old Tynecastle High School in Edinburgh. It was closed shortly after I left school in the early 2000’s. The new one was built opposite it in McLeod Street. I’d love to see what it looks like inside now. If they’ve just abandoned it, leaving everything inside intact. It’s a listed building, so I don’t think it’ll be demolished.

1:32 dude you took the hardest way in and nobody is watching the cameras on that site I was in it yesterday, shimmy the white door next to you with a coat hanger or go around the corner and roll under the fence. protip: use a styrofoam board to get past pir's, there are other methods such as signal jammers and tapping the landline with 5volts but that is beyond urbexing and more into getting lifted and having a night in klinky town. do not vandalise, leave nothing but footprints.

Thank you! We don’t no - knowing the law, as long as we aren’t breaking and entering we aren’t committing a crime, so being pleasant and respectful to security or police is the best way to go about it.

I was here yesterday, however I only managed to get inside of the exterior basement. Me and a few of my friends are thinking on going back to the hospital, but I believe it is now under control by Aberdeen City Council and Police Scotland, meaning getting caught would be devastating. Everything’s boarded up, more than double the amount in this video. There is a door in which I believe a few of us could slip under to get inside of the court area. Now you’ve brought it to my attention of the motion sensors. Do you think they still work and if so what’s my best plan of escape, should I hide there and hope the police do not come and attempt to find us or should I get out of there as fast as possible?

motion sensors are off. Cameras, fire alarms and fire exits still work so be careful. Alarm only seems to work in the west building from my knowledge

@@switchart555 Hey, thanks for letting me know. I’ve been in a few times now and I’ve only been caught once, luckily it was by council security rather than police. I managed to get through a diabetic-ward area, not too sure what side of the building it was at though. I got in through some broken door amongst wild bushes and near the electrical room. Pretty good but I won’t be back anytime soon as I’ve just found out the place was asbestos filled.

@@switchart555 just wondering how you know all this, do you work as site security or something as that’s sick knowledge. I’ve only been a few times, but I could only find a way into the south block without having to jump over the massive metal gates with a ladder.

It only can I tell you what the workmen where doing. I can tell you the name of the guy you got on camera. I work for the company that was doing that work. Removing asbestos. You walked right past the decontamination unit. I also know the supervisor that was on site.Icky he’d didn’t see you.

Very interesting. I was a patient for a few days there in my teens. I hit my head at school rugby practice and suffered amnesia. Still have no recollection of the event until I came to in the hospital bed. Also visited the emergency dept at an earlier age to have a fish bone removed from my throat. Finally, visited emergency again with my brother in my late teens for him to have a tick removed after a camping trip. They sent us upstairs to another department to get it removed and we must have taken a wrong turn and ended up in the VD clinic waiting room! A doctor in the VD clinic removed the tick.
