Exploring an Abandoned Church in Trenton, NJ - Built 1875

This church in Trenton was originally built in 1875 as a Presbyterian Church. In 1994 it became the Imani Community Church which is a progressive African American congregation. Unfortunately funds ran low, repairs were neglected and they abandoned it in 2006. It is a breath taking structure full of masterful carpentry and stonework. It is now owned my the city of Trenton. Anybody else want to help me save this place and preserve it at the very least? Comment your ideas! I would gladly donate a few hundred hours of labor and some money of my own. Kills me to see this it rot. Its worth saving. `

OMG 😍 I absolutely LOVE the residence. I'd love to buy it and refurbish it. I could definitely fill most of it. 7 kids so they'd each get their own room. My husband would absolutely fall in love with the kitchen. I definitely wouldn't be allowed in there anymore🤣. Add my old school stereo/record player to a room have a few of them set up for music and theater and library, which you'd probably never get my oldest daughter, my sister or myself out of 🤣. I could use all the school stuff for my homeschooled kids. This place would be absolutely AWESOME!!

Wow! Sad to see. I used to drive past that church during the week when it was in use. That was back in 92 when I worked in Trenton and attended school there at Trenton State college (know the College of New Jersey). Yup, brings back memories of just getting out of the Army and home from the Gulf War. I dated a girl who lived a couple of blocks from there. She was serious about me and trying to get married, I wasn't. LOL

Warfel I went to my Brownie Troop at the church. ☹️ The residence was first job out of high school. My grandmom was an LPN at the infirmary there. I was a nurse aide at that time. No training needed back then. I was 98 lb then. I remember one patient. She was at least 325 lb. was not able to do anything herself. I rolled her washed her. Gave her messages. Fed her, combed her hair. Changed her etc. what 18 yo could you find today to do all of that. I think I made $5 hr. In the residence I would sit and visit. I remember two women as if it were yesterday. One a retired school principal. She was 100 yo still smart as a whip. Very tall, thin. The other woman was 98 yo. She was retired teacher. She always had me laughing. Wonderful memories from both places.

They got the Kingston Trio and Doris Day records that's neat I knew Doris Day was a movie star but did not know she sung but her son Terry Melcher was a producer so I could see her getting into singing. The kingston Trio was a folk group the only song I know of them is the Tom Dooley song from when I was a kid.

Chris and Jenn. I do not know if you will ever read this comment, and I am sure someone will attack me for it, however I feel compelled to tell you both something. You expressed some disgust about the terrible grafhetti portraying a blaphmous act in the church. You mentioned that you had only went to a church acouple of times and I could tell that your fate was on your heart. I would urge you to get a bible or look online at 1st corthioans 15 verses 1 through four and really think about what is written there. I doubt that I will never meet you in this life, but we are brothers in our intrests. I am much older though 66 yrs old now. What you and Jenn have is so important, but what Jesus did for you is infinatly more important. Peace be with you Man.
