Born and Raised there. It was much more vibrant in The 80's and 90's. A lot of culture. From B-Boys to Househeads and Poets. Knowledge was abundant. N.O.I., Nuwabians, Rastas, 5%'ers etc.... Very Historic place. The public school teachers and Mentors were amazing (Dr. Long Nia Long's Father was my English Teacher, Mrs. Pratico, Mr. Omuwale, Mr. Haywood, Stan Johnson, Dr. Washington, David Valdes etc even Haile Selassie's great grandson used to teach there.) and we had a lot of programs for the Urban Youth (JTPA, Talent Search, Latino Land Trust etc). Trenton is only 30 mi from Philly and an Hour Trip to NYC on the train. We had the best of both worlds. Jay Z used to hustle there "East Trenton made me" . We even had our own version of the Puerton Rican Day Parade. Been out of there for 12 yrs. Right when gang culture started to take over. After experiencing/ living in Los Angeles and Miami, I wouldn't even think of moving back. Miss the food (best pizza Nino's Pizzarama, DeLorenzo's, Chucks Wings, Hoagies/ Subs, My Grandma's Cooking etc) and my long time friends and Family.
You're in my hometown thank you for filming my city. I always forever will love NJ and I am sure Jersey people don't mind having you there....

Was raised in Trenton...half of the time in South Trenton and the other half in East Trenton. Went to Parker Elementary, Jr 4, and TCHS. Childhood summers in the 90s were spent playing outside with all the neighborhood kids, getting wet with water from the fire hydrant, walking to the corner store to re-up on snacks, and waiting on the ice cream truck to cruise through. Moved out 12 years ago but, I have nothing but love for Trenton ♥️

THE CITY THAT RAISED ME! Lot of pain there. Lots of love too. Thanks for documenting.
I feel so bad. All these people paying for designer ripped jeans. I grew up with handme down shit quality jeans from my brother that got ripped naturally, unironically. Someone once asked me what brand my pants were. I responded 'broke as shit brand'.

Thank you, I enjoyed the ride.
Grew up in Ewing and worked in Trenton for years, meeting a lot of people from there gave me an inside look of how tragic life can be. One of my customers kids shot and killed his friend over 20$s of weed. My other friend got mistaken for someone else and got gunned down going to a bodega. Praying Trenton can one day return to its glory days, my father told me stories of how beautiful it used to be.
Also, I really know nothing about the place except for City Gardens and Poor Righteous Teachers.

The houses all look alike because they were built around the same time periods. That is the style from back then.
Interesting
Some fine victorian houses and even earlier much like the ones here in the UK...
So I guess it's common now, to see groups of dirt bikes and ATVs over-running certain neighborhoods in the cities. On a different note, I live in Jersey, down in Atlantic County. Once every year or two I go north to Morris county for a weekend or longer. I always take 206, but I use 295 as a bypass around Trenton. One time many years ago I decided to take 206 all the way through Trenton, just to try it once. What a mistake. It took so long. But also I saw more ghetto than I had seen in a very long time. It was pretty scary.
All that high state tax obviously not going here.

It was though at one point. I grew up in the Burg and had the best childhood regarding neighborhoods and outside “adventures”. Unfortunately it’s nowhere near the beautiful city it once was. Once the folks came in and started subletting every home in the area it went to shit. I would walk from Clinton Ave to Lalor St at 1am on Friday and Saturday nights and nobody bothered me. Can’t even walk down to the corner store without getting harassed these days. It really brings a tear to my eye when I see the state of it now. Thanks greedy property owners for single-handedly ruining a beautiful area.
East Trenton what up
What the video can't tell you is 79% of all single family homes in Trenton are investor owned. New Jersey has one of the highest tax burdens in the country. Trenton on aggregate has one of the lowest minicipal valuations in the state. These homes would be some of the most valuable if they were bought up to speed but would kill these poverty pimps hustle if that happened. They would rather rent out section 8 and barely keep them standing so they make the same money as they would renting a 3 bedroom home in one of the neighboring bedroom communities with the overhead of the necessary upkeep and HOA fees. By design not happenstance.

Nexckaz be WILDIN!!!
My mother moved us far away from Trenton in 1979. My brother who works at the airport said he's talked to people passing through who are familiar with the area and they all say the city is a train wreck. I wasn't interested in politics and economics when I was younger but now I am. If the only decent paying jobs in Trenton are with the state government but most of those people don’t want to live in the city because it's a bad place and they can afford to live in a nicer area it's perfectly understandable that most choose to do so. But as the "conservatives" would say if government really was capable of solving problems then why is the city a bleeping ghetto? So much money goes to the state government employees and retirees but then the government leaders say we know the city is a disaster but we don't have the money to do anything about it. Maybe part of the problem is all the government employees getting a big salary who don't spend much of it in the city. Naturally they want to live in a nice home in a safe area etc. But what do most of the government employees actually produce for their fellow citizens? Everything just gets worse. You don’t need an advanced education to understand how poverty leads to crime and drug abuse and people leading sad lives. If the government programs really don't work in terms of helping people who need it then why do they keep paying high salaries to the people who aren't accomplishing anything in terms of creating a positive and safe and healthy environment for people stuck at the bottom? Fire most of the good for nothing government employees then the state would have plenty of money to start demolishing the slum neighborhoods and pay private sector people who do REAL work to build lots of new affordable housing units just for starters. Put all the physically capable people into construction job training programs. How much worse is the stupid government going to let Trenton get? It will just be the equivalent of a refugee camp for all the poor immigrants coming from places where things are even worse? They will then just be on welfare here forever and never even learn our language etc? This once great country is going to end up like Venezuela if we stay on this current road to nowhere. .
❤❤❤
Looks rough in places
Good thing Trenton spent money putting those solar panels on the utility poles. Nothing like spending tax dollars where they're most desperately needed.
