This coal power generation station was decommissioned in 2017. I used to see these beautiful, seemingly unobtainable, twin smoke stacks driving home from the beach as a child and always wanted to climb them. I never thought it would be a possibility in my lifetime. However, one day the opportunity presented itself and I simply couldn't resist. I was cruising around on a Sunday afternoon and thought to myself that it would be a sin if I never got to see this place before it was demolished. Seeing that the fence was not fully in place and there were not any "no trespassing" signs, I figured I would give it a go. I felt that capturing some footage of a place that I consider historic and nostalgic would be worth the risk. Im hoping that some of the employees who worked there will see this one day and it will serve to bring back memories. This power plant has been demolished I mean no disrespect to the current property owners.

I enjoyed your video thought you might like to hear from someone who built a stack. Its true I was a welder and myself and one other welder built a 300 foot stack that went into a power plant at Coranak Saskatchewan Canada. It was 28 feet in diameter at the base and 12 feet in diameter at the top. It was made of 1 1/4 ln. plate and had a seam every 10 feet the plate was bevelled to 1/4 in. It was all welded with submerged arc. I don`t remember how many lbs. of electrode it took but we would use 400 lbs. in one shift. I don`t think it is being used anymore but it is still standing. It was built in about 1975 or 76 I`m 74 years old so the memory isn`t what it used to be.

We were making the big bucks lol I think about $12.00 an hour. It was my first job after leaving the Air Force. I left home at 15 and worked on a farm for $3.00 per day long days starting at 5 milking cows then breakfast and into the fields sometimes as late as midnight. I work for an electric Utility IT Dept been to the coal plant a few times and you should see what it is like when it's running. Steam pipes everywhere hot dripping stuff. Coal dust everywhere cough if you breath it in I was there in the winter and the fly ash mixes into a gray mud if it gets on your car takes the paint off. Also contains Mercury and other toxic stuff. We had to install some stuff in the smoke stack for EPA monitoring take a 2 man elevator up inside while it's running. Then you get off go into a room where some stairs lead up to the top where the smoke comes out. The smoke stack is big like 700 feet high. When you open the outside door it causes a problem where the room can fill with exhaust not sure why have to wear a CO monitor. They have a train that is remote controlled locomotives. The lake feeds water in really deep inlet water is like rapids have to cross in a gangway. Many people have been killed there over the years been open since 1950s. I hope I never have to go back there never know. When you enter the turbine building generally next to the great big 500kv transformers. You hear those buzzing sounds when you get up close to these things like a few feet away the buzzing is so loud have to wear hearing protection. The wire is low 10-15 feet over your head at one point. We wear hard hats, and fire protective clothing. I'm surprised you made a video which can be used for trespassing violations.
