Explore Compressed Distortion / Kick Drum Sound Design and Techno Jam Session

❤️ Support me on Patreon - / ihor
Sound design with the distortion and compression is essential for Techno Music. In this video I get a chance to try 2 new modules from Cosmotronic. Peradam - side-chained analog distortion module. Messor - analog stereo compressor module. My main sound source today is Basimilus Iteritas Alter from Noise Engineering. All mounted into a lovely Palette case from intellijel.
In the first part of this video I do some sound design of a distorted kick drum, sample it into the Digitakt for a following techno jam session. I use a filter, distortion and a compressor. In the second part I make a bass line / lead line and continue jamming until the end.
Disclaimer: this is not a sponsored video by Cosmotronic and they have no influence on the content in this video. They did send me both of their modules however - Peradam and Messor.

🌍 Hello World! My name is Ihor.
This is my channel where I share my experiences, ideas, reviews and tutorials related to Electronic Music Production. I focus mostly on Techno and House music. In my Studio on my Music Production Desk you will find a variety of different gear like: digital and analog synth, eurorack modular, drum machine, sampler, effect, mixer, guitar pedal, MIDI controller. Also software: DAW, Ableton, VST, plugins.
I am myself an engineer and I am quite obsessed with the Music Technology and Sound Design. I like making music without a computer. I like playing Electronic Music Live with my Minimal Dawless Setup. I love Eurorack Modular Techno and always keen to talk about the modular workflow.
I strongly believe that nothing can be better than a good Dawless Techno Jam!
I watched all the Techno Tutorials on KZread! (I think)
📺 Thanks for watching! And have fun!
✌️ Peace.

    Hi Ihor my friend I rewatched this today and never seen you so Animated , in the Zone so much, if u replay this u capture so many sonic moments it’s just a pity u didn’t record sections of this into Octotrack for later use, if u ever put your ultimate Live Gig case together this is one of Elements, need 4 Pallette cases with different patch, module set ups but cross mixing , Morphing between each case of Elements DOPE. ACE ( Even though I’ll never have Octotrack)👍🆒🎶🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🇬🇧🔱👁🌈🙏

    This awesome! I was wondering if you might have engaged the SC in on the compressor using one of the trigs out corresponding to the kick. Curious if that would have worked to get the ducking effect on the baseline in this patch?

  • @IhorMedia

    @IhorMedia

    2 жыл бұрын

    It would have definitely worked. I even thought about that. The initial problem with this particular setup was that I couldn't get the kick sound standalone from the DT. If I'd use Analog Rytm, for example, it would be possible to get the kick separately from the entire mix and plug it into sidechain input of Messor. Though your suggestion makes even more sense now! I think I could have used trigs out into Quadrax to get the envelope shape, however. Then put it into the SC in of the compressor. And this would be even better than using a dry kick sound. More controls indeed! Thanks for kicking in, Alex! Much appreciate your idea!

    Lolll I was also looking at this module for the past 2 weeks, the Cosmotronic Messor. Nice video. How good is the sidechain compression? I couldn't really hear it well from the video unfortunately. I'm planning to send the stereo output of my Befaco STMix into the Messor and sidechain the shit out of it (with a kickdrum) before it goes to my mixer :) Nice to see that it fits in your setup, I love the Messor's aesthetics as well.

  • @IhorMedia

    @IhorMedia

    Aesthetically and sonically both of these modules are great! I have not tried the side chain compression yet. But I am planning to dig deeper into that soon. Stay tuned, I guess. Thanks for kicking in!

  • @mojibake7868

    @mojibake7868

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@IhorMedia Will do! Thanks for your reply, that clears things up. I'm splitting the output of my kick (coming from my TR-8S) into 3 equal audio signals, one is going to the mixer, and the other two into the sidechain inputs of my DBX 166XS dual compressor. I'm sending my hi-hats through comp channel 1 and use a mixer send to send any track through comp channel 2. So both channels can be sidechained to the kick. It really cleans up the sound massively. I can recommend it to anyone making techno. A hardware compressor (with sidechain) is great, so I'm amazed you didn't try it out yet on the Messor!

  • @IhorMedia

    @IhorMedia

    2 жыл бұрын

    BIA Harmonics is weird indeed. First quarter of this knob is kinda "safe". It blends yet another oscillator aka a tone. Turning it more goes into wild territory! It starts adding 4 more and amplifies them more and more. This knob is great for not melodic, but rather some wild sounds. Instant techno percussion kinda thing!
