It's interesting how Leger's paintings basically look something you'd expect to see in an AutoCAD program. He breaks things down into basic geometric 3D shapes and adds gouraud shading.

It is a pleasant surprise to see Raden talk about Kandinsky. Thanks for translating it, otherwise a lot of people wouldn't be able to see this. Though I don't really agree with her on "association game" being a primary way to engage with art like this, particularly with Kandinsky's work. As she mentioned, Kandinsky was a theorist first and foremost, and his approach to abstract art is a bit more involved. Basically he urges to view art not as something that is necessarily meant to be representational (e.g. "a horse", "a powerline", "an apple"), but as a visual language in itself: every dot, line, plane, colour, tone, position, direction, relation, pattern, etc. - can bear a feeling and a meaning even in itself, not to mention when it is put in complex compositional relationships. And though in his written work he gives a rather thorough explanation on what each visual element could mean in the context of his art, his system is meant to encourage the viewer to think for himself in order to push the boundaries of how the art could be approached. It is a rather interesting stuff. I feel like everyone who has an interest in art in general, not only in an abstract art, should give his written work a try. That being - "Point and Line to Plane" and "Concerning the Spiritual in Art". Former is basically a systematic book on composition, latter is an essay that is a bit more lyrical in nature, but a worthy of look nonetheless.
