Great explanation- I'm an English teacher and I find the tenses really confusing even though I'm a native English speaker. Your video really makes sense and I feel more confident going through the tenses with my students.

Usually Past perfect continuous is used in books.

I think you should say : " I had been watching the video when the ads popped up " because your action of watching was interrupted. You use past continuous if the action continue when an action happen

I just would like to have a clarification about past simple continuos: it is correct to say that the short action occurs while the continuos action is going on and that the short action not necessarily interrupt the longer one? I have a Q: what is the difference in meaning between "It was raining when i left the house" and " it had been raining for 2 hrs when i left the house". as i understood in both examples it is was still raining when i left the house, so whats the difference, is it just the duration of time mentioned in the 2nd example? Great explanations, Greg! In Canada, we use simple past most of the time and add explainers instead of using past perfect continuous! HAHAHA!!! "It had been raining when I left the house," becomes, "It was raining when I left the house, but then it stopped."
