I need to book mark this myself, lol~ I personally don't like the old photo aesthetic when shooting specific portrait, I can see myself still use it for daily capture?? maybe? But I don't take much daily pictures anyway hahahaha~

I find expired film pretty frequently at thrift stores around me and it's been fun to try them out when I find a roll or a couple!

I'm always nervous about shooting expired film, I'm scared I might have a great shot that gets completely lost in development!:( I do love the results though when they turn out great! It kind of depends on whether or not you like the uncertainty I guess. Great video, I think the shots turned out great!

This happened to me just recently. I shot a roll of film that I really like, but the color is long gone, the grain and contrast is all over the place, I was very upset. Then I decided to stop using expired films to shoot portrait…😭I got scared!!

That's why I'm so mad at people who charge so much for expired film that hasn't been dependably cold stored. I've had a lot of great experiences with expired stuff, but it's always truly taking a chance unlike the general consistency of fresh film. Wrecked cheap expired film can be an acceptable loss, but wrecked expensive expired film is awful. I'm always afraid it will put off newer film shooters and give film a bad reputation. So yeah, great advice for new film photographers to approach it with caution!

I remember the first roll of expired film I shot, I was disappointed with the results even though I already know the “feature” of expired films. I guess shooting expired films is all about the “letting go” experience. To me, money can’t justify it anymore, coz yeah, the films might be cheaper, but process and scan still cost money… If the photo is bad because of the film quality, it’s a total waste of money 🥹… I think I’m just gonna use up all my expired films little by little, then never buy expires films~ 🫣

100% Jamie. Unless you know the condition its been stored in, I wouldn't risk it UNLESS its only recently expired (I.e. less then 5 years ago) OR you get it for dirt cheap!

I have expired films on my freezer. I'm scared to shoot it. Maybe one day I will! Also, YAY NEW VIDEO! btw, have you tried scanning your films thru DIY DSLR/Mirrorless Cameras + Negative Lab Pro? Very #Lifechanging

I have't try camera scan yet, I don't have the lens for it, and the stand and everything, but I've seen a lot people doing it that way. It's really just the matter of saving money and get all of that set up at one point!! I do think it's a easier way to scan :)

I'm like, why should I want 8 & 16mm film movies that look like they were done with a digital movie camera? I might as well just use a digital camera in the first place. So I distance myself from that digital look by using film 20 to 60 years old. The older the film, the more interesting and artistic the movie providing the subject matter is good.

I am done with expired film. I Loaded few shots from the expired cinestill and Portra on my IG and the colors are just to wacked for my taste. Spent all day walking the wet streets of Seattle and I want good film. Some shots are ok many not so boo

If I'm shooting expired films, I try to manage my expectation to start with. I don't want to throw away my expired films, but when the photos turns out bad, I feel like it was a waste of money process and scan them... so.. it's tough :(

I propose an exchange: photographers take out all the artefacts, and hand them over to CG artists 😄

Speaking of CG, I recently have been looking at a lot dream core stuff, some of them just looks like really old photos, so odd but fascinating.
