And the fact that this beautiful, sensitive gorilla had to lose his life. I imagine that the handlers were devastated, since they raise these animals as babies and spend so much time with them. Not true, Most animals in modern zoos are pretty happy where they are. For many of the smaller animals, their enclosures aren’t much smaller than their range would be in the wild. Animals do not have the concepts of “freedom” or “captivity” like we do: if an animal is warm, fed, socialized and entertained, it is happy. Zoos nowadays have roomy enclosures and animal enrichment programs, where animals are given puzzles and new smells to keep it interesting

Then if he was protecting him, how do you get it away from him and let the monkey know it’s safe. Just his pulling of the boy could have fractured or broken something because of how strong they are. Far more ways this was going to end with a dead monkey then not. The blames with the mother. I mean if this was such an easy thing to pull off we’d have kids falling in on a weekly basis. Absolutely...the fault of a mother who should know to keep an eye on children while at a tempting zoo. I remember some mothers of another culture who didn't realize that a 2-year old baby had fallen out of a window while they were engaged in their chatter. They insisted that they had turned their heads for a second; but it took longer than a second for the toddler to crawl to the window and fall out. I know from experience woman's mind goes into time warp when she is focused on something else. When that happens, the child takes advantage of the break and begins to explore.
