Expert on Brooklyn Center Retail Closure: ‘A Walmart Closing Is Not a Trivial Thing’

Brooklyn Center police have responded to the Shingle Creek Crossing Walmart location more than 6,200 times over the last five years. What’s next for the property? City officials describe the loss as “devastating.” University of Minnesota business professor George John calls it a tough transition. “I would not underplay that. A Walmart closing is not a trivial thing,” said John. City leaders say they will continue to work on redevelopment.

Things have to get a WHOLE lot worse before enough democrats will change their vote. When they have suffered enough to begin voting with some common sense things will change. For those of us who already have common sense you have two choices. Hang around where you are waiting on democrats to get fed up or move to a place where common sense is still in control. Best of luck to you.

But to change that mentality today, that shoplifting is okay, will now take a generation to change. Parents, family, neighbors, teachers, and governments FIRST need to be reminded and re-taught about right and wrong! Only then, will the children today and tomorrow learn to become responsible, honest adults, no matter what social or economic situation one is in. It can be done, but only if everyone is involved.

This is the exact location of the former Mall. The Lawlessness caused the former Mall to close. It took a few years for Walmart to acquire the space and build the closing store. The Mall that used to be there closed because they had many kids hanging out, stealing, and causing all types of other problems. Once Walmart was built, it attracted all the individual stores surrounding it. The new stores are set up as individual shops to monitor customers better.

Why doesn’t anyone address THE problem and only the problem. Shoplifters have more protection than ever in our history. I’m a retired 49 year veteran of retail. Ten years with k mart, set up Walmarts, was the second general manager with Sams and owned my own business for twenty years. Back in the day, shoplifters were treated like criminals. Private property had its privileges and police never saw a lot of repeat offenders. Today, a shoplifter can do anything they want with no fear of punishment. Our governments lack of concern for their citizens is what is closing these stores.

Walmart's loss problems are also internal. If the store's management is inept or corrupt, chances are that many employees are too. We had a WM in our neighborhood that cleaned house of mgmt & employees every 12-18 months because of operational conflict problems. Another nearby store fired a round of workers (& jailed a few too) because of a clever cashier theft-ring partnership operating within the store. Thousands of dollars in losses per week, via altered customer receipts, walking right past security & out the door.
