There is a reason diamonds were worthless throughout almost all of human history. The ancient Greeks and Egyptians didn't even use them, despite having access to them. They were garbage gems compared to topaz, aquamarine, ruby, and sapphire. Those rocks are actually rare. Diamonds didn't become popular until scammers started marketing them as a wedding tradition. Edit: To further my point, there is an estimated 6.3 billion tons of copper on Earth. But there is quadrillion tons of Diamond.
