Experience, Strength and Hope Award Presentation to John Taylor 2013

Музыка

On 15 February 2013 Writers in Treatment held an event @ Skirball Cultural Center to present this year's award to John Taylor. The event was Hosted by Ed Bagley, with Robert Downey Jr. presenting. Special guests included Ione Skye, Divina Jasso, who performed beautifully on acoustic guitar and Bobcat Goldthwaite, who performed a comedy set and apparently only took the gig because his wife wanted to meet John Taylor! LOL! Guests @ the reception included Buzz Aldren, Kurtwood Smith, Joanna Cassidy, Michael Des Barres, Steve Jones, Gela Nash Taylor, Julie Anne Rhodes, and those previously mentioned.
I claim no copyright to the products and organizations mentioned in this video. I only wish to share this great experience.

I just finished reading your book John, thank you so much for writing it. I was a huge fan back in the 80's. My first concert was Duran Duran. My entire 80's experience was dominated by my love of Duran Duran. All these years later, your name was brought up and I thought to myself "What did ever happen to John?" I found out you wrote a book! I went and purchased it right away and just finished reading it. Every night before bed I curled up and read it. I never really wanted it to end. I had no idea that you were addicted to anything. In my little teen world you were perfect and looked so handsome. I had never an idea of drugs or addiction, I myself never having been. I just want to thank you for writing this book, letting your fans so close to you, to know what you have gone through. I'm so proud of you. Be happy in knowing that you have been very loved all this lifetime, even though in your book you felt so alone.... I'm so glad you're happy now, and I hope you don't feel so alone anymore. Whatever you end up doing, follow your heart, that's all I have to say. Love every moment of your life and do what your heart tells you to do. Thank you for bringing Duran Duran to the world.. Without you, it never would have happened.

That was not actually me crying. It was a friend who was reacting strongly to the positive message being shared that night about sobriety, as she was newly going through the experience herself and found some of her own strength @ that moment. I am not sure what "linked comment" means, but I see that above. I am not sure where else this post appears, but if you want John to see it, send him a link on Twitter (@thisistherelJT) or through Katy via DD.com's site.

He is inspiring to me and I have never had substance abuse or alcohol problems but my dad was an alcoholic who died from complications of alcoholism so I've been through it for many years being the baby in my family and dealing with my dad's illness. For many years I couldn't let it go. I hated my dad and at one time my dad wanted to meet with me before he died. My sister went and I didn't. I wasn't ready. I wasn't able to forgive him for picking booze over his kids but reading JT's book was so inspiring because I can now forgive my dad because he had a disease and John's book helped me realize it wasn't my dad's fault. And so I let go of the anger and hatred and replaced it with understanding and compassion. Thanks JT for inspiring me with your words. I'm so very proud of you and I love you for what you've done for everyone and helping others. You're a role model...
