    I hated exploring my house at night, and it isn't even a big house or anything. I'd sneak into the family room to watch TV (mostly horror movies, so I wonder why I was so scared), and I'd have to huddle in a blanket while I got scared lol

    Lol my old house had a shed downstairs that we used as my parents' bedroom/dwelling. So I had to go outside whenever going upstairs/downstairs. Sometimes my family would forget to turn on the lights outside, so when my parents went out and I was hanging out downstairs alone late at night, I had to run outside in pitch black darkness, up a hill and up the stairs. I ran so fast, my eyes didn't have time to adjust to the darkness, so I had guess where I was going. I would start banging on the door and wait for my grandma to unlock the door. I kinda miss doing that.

    Ugh, the phone trick is probably the most terrifying thing. The teddy bear is bad too, and quite frustrating when the kid couldn't tell it was obviously for spying... But on the other hand, it probably _is_ supernatural... because a kidnapper probably couldn't predict that a kid would download a specific 10000 games in 1 thing.

    @purplecat4977

    Given that this looks like it's in the early 90s, computers were far less secure back then. The kidnapper could have picked out the kid he wanted to kidnap and gotten the computer's IP address in any number of ways, and then waited until both the parents had left looking like they were going to be gone a while and messed with the search page to make sure he ended up on the download page. It's not a stretch for a kid in that time to go for the 'all the free games' thing. If you wanted to go as far as to make the logic of making the games reasonable as part of a kidnapping plot, they might have been designed to direct his behavior in a specific way that would have made him easier to grab, but failed due to where he was when he played it. The irony is that the one thing the kidnapper probably couldn't have predicted was that the kid had a game system in his treehouse in the middle of the freaking woods. I don't even think the camera in the bear would have been enough to locate the kid. If he'd just stayed in the treehouse, turned out the lights, and knocked the ladder down, he probably would have been fine.

    Yeah, to be honest, the misunderstanding of the old tech was kind of the most fascinating element of this game for me. The fact that a lot of young gamers can't even imagine a time before video games were inherently portable is a very "welp now I feel old" moment. If that kid was going to entertain himself overnight in his tree house, he would be reading comic books, playing with toys, or maybe listening to a radio. He would not have his own computer hooked up with power in a treehouse with a floppy drive. Not in that era.

    I mean, most of the media that portrays the older sibling/babysitter that way is aimed at children. And a lot of kids think teenagers are rude, mean and scary when they suddenly hit puberty and have mood swings. So shows/games/movies/comics/books/cartoons portraying teenage characters that way is intended to relate to their audience. It's obviously exaggerated. It's less of a 'mean older sibling' trope, as much as a 'mean teenager' one.

I don't even need to look up that game to know what you're talking about, it was like this little known game that I have reeaaaally vivid memories of from when I was a kid because I remember trying to play it with my dad. This is great! It's such a period piece - the urban legends about bad people calling to see if you're home, the malware that the innocent kid installs on his pc... And the music is amazing! I don't think I've understood the lore behind the story, though. What was up with the note about the tiger escaping? Does it imply that the murderer is a shapeshifter and can turn into a tiger? And the note about the circus? Was the circus sold and the circus performers out of job because they've lost the tiger? And the murderer is one of them? I mean, the game is called Night Freak, so it makes sense that the murderer is one of the circus 'freaks'?..

  • @VioletDiamond030

    Obviously this is just a theory, but from the context clues I assume the kidnappers/murderers used to be a circus that fell on quite hard times, starting with one of their lions escaping - that probably gave them a lot of bad publicity and they couldn't keep above water anymore. Somehow they turned to kidnapping children to either traffick or make snuff films with judging by the camera in order to make money, as no one else would hire them due to them being 'freaks' and treated as subhuman, as one of the notes said.

  • @Lucifronz

    @Lucifronz

    Ай бұрын

    The brother being missing implies he was probably killed, but the game feels incomplete. It's like it wants to explore some sort of backstory with this "circus" (?), but they got bored making it and didn't bother finishing it and just slapped an "okay now Jimmy's dead" ending on it and called it a day. What is the significance of the circus AT ALL on the plot? Because it's a tall "freak" killing kids? It's all rather pointless. You never see anything about his brother disappearing. I assume the tiger thing is referencing another game I didn't see or something considering Manly's reaction and unfinished thought, so I'll ignore that one, but even without that adding onto it, it's all rather dull and unfinished in my eyes.
