OK I live in the U.S. and I will do the conversion but I want to know how much a complete rebuild like that would cost me if I brought that pair of shoes to you for that job. I have several pairs of cowboy boots and over the years after having them resolved I know I have spent more than the cost of a new pair of boots but the cost is spread out over about 30 years. Thank you for a great video of your craftsmanship.

@@jiggsborah7041 greetings. Yes, South African here too, currently JHB, originally from Vereeniging. I remember growing up and seeing many of these “shoe repair” places as a kid, none were as talented as this shoe smith but there were many of those stores who either re-soled your shoes, or where you could punch a while in your belt or get a key cut etc. these days everything is cheaper to replace with a badly made short term solution that to actually repair an item that will last you for a lot longer if you spend a little extra to repair.

When I was in college in North Carolina 25 years ago I got a part-time job with a cobbler and I got to the point where he trusted me enough to do heels and sand soles, and it was the most enjoyable job I've had except maybe a stint as a film projectionist before digital made the job obsolete. It's great to see a young person who's a master at this on KZread, it's an ancient tradition that needs to be preserved in our throwaway world.
