Made in England VS Made in China! // HAND MADE SHOES REVIEWED

Фильм және анимация

Made in england is well known for high quality goods, whilst made in china sometimes has a bad rep, but are we about to flip the script? Today we reviewed hand made british shoes vs handmade chinese shoes, kindly donated to the channel by premium mens clothing brand Arterton. We're reviewing a pair of Yearn shoes and a pair of John Lobb shoes, tearing them down comparing the qualities, and as you'll see, Yearn shoes value for money with a hand welted construction at this price point is immense. Check out Artertons site Yearn footwear!

Hey Dan, a big shout out to you from Dubai. Absolutely fantastic comparison video. I never knew that Yearn would be able to stack up to John Lobb. I have a question. I am looking to buy a new pair of shoes. I am torn between TLb Mallorca and Yearn Shoes. Which one would you recommend I should go for? I am looking to buy a simple no-fuss black oxfords.

Made in China is bad quality if you expect it to be obscenely cheap. If you pay the price, you get good quality. Like anywhere.

Yep. China is very good at making things TO SPEC. If you send a Chinese company the spec, you will get a better quality potentially than anywhere else especially if you’re looking for precision machining. If you want to pay a Chinese company to design and make something for you - don’t. Since IP theft is so rampant in China most companies sending designs over will send the crappier ones.

Well I have to admit you're the first person that I've actually gotten hooked on watching do shoe repairs! I love the way you're so mindful and specific while you go about your task and the results definitely show! I just watched another young man take apart a work boot and he did it so haphazardly and roughly I couldn't get over the difference in technique... kudos to you sir on taking pride in your job.. WELL DONE!!!

Whenever Dan steps away from the repair videos it's usually funny or interesting, and this one was very interesting indeed! I thought it was refreshing and insightful to see Dan's professional opinion on such high quality shoes and WHY they are high quality. I'd much rather have a cobbler's opinion on a shoe rather than a sales person's; just as I'd rather have a mechanic's opinion on a car, etc. Thanks for another great video Dan!

Such an educational video!! I loved it, thank you so much! You're so enthusiastic about your job! It's a real pleasure to watch you work with delight. When I watched your video featuring the bright yellow women boots, I really surprised about the range of your workmanship- shoe and watch repairs, key making... It is truly impressive! I might be around your age or younger but I always like it to watch craftsmen using their knowledge and I'm glad that young people keep doing artisan works. Truly, thank you for sharing your knowledge. I gradually become knowledgeable in taking care of my shoes and choosing quality ones. I'm a student on an extremely tight budget but recently I've managed to buy a secondhand pair of boots for winter from the French brand Freelance for 15€. I couldn't believe the extent of the bargain! They are in excellent condition - my cobbler was extremely impressed when I bought the pair to her to take care of the heel and the external sole. It's because I got educated by KZread cobblers like you that I was able to spot this superb pair of shoes. It's especially hard to find good quality shoes when you are a woman because most shoes in the market are just made to follow current trends so they're made to last but a season or so whereas it's easier to find quality men's shoes. I've seen many bespoken men shoe shops but very few shops for women, sadly. I've always envied you guys on that matter. Congratulations for your craftsmanship and your channel! I'm looking forward to watching your upcoming videos. (If I may, I would be very interested in you making a video dedicated to women shoes so that we know how to pick good ones. Personally, I am not confident in analyzing the external soles and heels of shoes)

I would love to see you put these back together and compare end results to the originals. For example, I assume you would not hand sew the soles to the welt. There would be a difference that could be detected if it was being looked for, but with no diminishment of the quality of the shoe. Thanks for your videos.

@@holyfox94 i have to disagree. A lot of products assembled in Europe have a lot of Asia made parts and you don't complain about. For example there's no better than Chinese silk. Just saying. And personally i find this design more beautiful but it's just my taste. However if i can get them for 600 less and it's still European leather I'm in. The fact that brands stands as status symbol isn't right for me. If you have sharp mind , good energy and be confident you don't need any outrageous name to show off. Ofc i have some branded clothes but it's simply due to the fact that quality is confirmed and they're a bit more conmon and easy to get. China for it's own market have some outstanding quality 👌 I've been there because we had some clients who invited us. What i can tell you about product quality it's on par if not better than rest of the world. Why China got reputation is simply due to the fact that majority of Europe looks for CHEAP. And due to differences in standard and wages it's impossible to be cheap. So China delivered exactly what people wanted. Maybe not you or me but majority for sure.

Great video as always Dan. You asked, and I definitely do like this type of video, and would like to see you do more of the same type. I like the quality of the Yearn shoes, and I love the wholecut style. But, I like the John Lobb's better due to their toe design. I would never wear a pair of shoes with a toe design like the Yearns, which I assume is their OXF 719 model. I do, however, like the Yearn OXF 215 shoe with a rounded toe. It's not a question of quality between the two shoes for me as both are obviously a quality shoe, at least in considering the construction of each. It's just the style of the shoes. On the other hand, if it was the Renaissance period and the Yearns included a sword with purchase I would probably wear them for my swashbuckling adventures. :-)

Hello from Texas! Both are quite nicely constructed shoes and I would not hesitate to wear either, but the Yearn shoe is more angular than the John Lobb. I prefer the Lobb's only because they are a bit more flowing in shape that makes them seem more elegant. And I'm partial to the cap toe brogue style.
