    I got a load from South Bend Indiana to Milwaukee WI. 1 PC 20lbs. Just a small box. Paid $361.00 total. $6 for deadhead, $50fsc and $152 a mile line haul, and that was in a Promaster van. Would've used a car if I had one. I don't get those often, usually 80 cpm mostly, but I smile when I do get those $1.50 per mile loads.

    You are the most straight up person in the cargo van expediting game. I've been in the game for a few years. The info that you've shared with your viewers will not settle well with the individuals trying to sale information. Whenever the situation arises I do what I can do to share info. The thought of being compensated has never crossed my mind. I've seen you over a period of time give out valuable info in an attempt to help others. Keep doing whatcha do and you'll be blessed.

    To the second half of the video... You're absolutely right. Supply and demand and it fluctuates a lot. Some days you'll do well, (or just get lucky; right truck right time) and some days you won't. Folks will only post their wins just to brag, and never their losses. You'll never see the whole picture. It's true that new business owners, in any business, tend to look at the whole number (gross) without always understanding their operating costs. And if you are new, then it's likely you don't understand all the operating costs. You haven't been in business long enough to see it all. You always need to know your break even. When you don't fully understand all of your costs , it's easy to take a job that costs more then you'll earn. And as you said, you can't be too cheap, that sets you up for failure down the road, and to be locked into that rate you can't support long term. You have to make sure they customer knows it's a special/discounted rate, a one time new customer price. Show/Tell them the regular price (MSRP) then show/explain the discount so they won't come to expect it every time. Those who charge too little will soon be out of business, or if they stay in business, will never be able to grow.

    Surprised to hear rates are this low. I had a van and was with Roberts Express in the late 90's. They were huge and were bought out by FedEx. The rules were kind of bs, they would offer loads and if your refused too many you were put out of service and moved to the back of the line. Most of the time you could get a load paying a $1.00 or more a mile and that was 20 years ago. Net of $800/week was pretty easy and you were making "good money". What killed it for me was time away from home as has been said in your other videos. 3 years was enough.

    I learned a lot from watching your videos. I'm a courier in New York City and I used to earn $700. to $800. a week for about fifty miles a day and on a bicycle for forty hours a week before the pandemic. Now I'm down to $400. to $500. a week for thirty miles a day twenty to thirty hours a week. I recently tried over the road on a semi truck as a passenger for $700. a week just being an assistant on the truck ( frieght liner ). I'm seriously considering cargo van expediter. I'd be satisfied with $2000. a week but it sounds like that's stretching it. I get the feeling that it all boils down to your dispatcher giving you the good jobs. Anyways I'll stay tuned in to you.

    $700 a week on a semi truck ??? Holyyy ______ , too bad man report that company on trucker forums so they get exposed and dont suck blood from anymore hard working newcomers. That low is just evil. I recently got my CDL and i think for me it was a better decesion than going to a college . Its been paying me good enough ever since, in my first job i was paid 60 cents a mile as a newcomer but employer didnt have that many loads to keep one moving, which affected the gross total but the rate was still good , now with my current company im getting paid 75 cents a mile ,by the end i usually gross over 12000+ miles each month , you can do the math , do you have an idea how low were those crooks paying you😕 and brother im still considered a new driver in the industry , there are guys that are getting paid 90 cents to a dollar or even more per mile .

Finally booked a load to Fresno from NJ for .72cpm and they tried to trade for less!!! Then they canceled the load because I said I couldn’t deliver fast enough … Out in LA now and I was told by my dispatcher I needed to bid .85-.9cpm to Rural Montana. I bid 1.3 originally and then went down 100. Nothing. .8 out of Cali just isn’t happening anymore. I was told .7 max even to Laredo where last time I was there couldn’t even get .65cpm to Michigan over and over again prolly 70-100 bids. Too many drivers out here now

Non cdl cheap or free boards are mostly trash rates for the desperate newbies. I like to watch and learn about expediting even though I currently am not an expediter. I believe these sole expediters who use the few named load boards for single owner/operator may have found a new business model or niche. As long as they can make $.95 for the van + the total cost per year divided by mileage to cover their own operating authority fees/costs; they may be able to take a job at say $1.15 per mile and be profitable but yet undercut the major carriers such as Allen named Barrett and so many others at say a cost of $1.25 per mile. Just a thought or observation. Obviously, the ideal job is to be a direct shipper. My advice is don't limit your self to corporations for direct shipment, but also consider federal and state governments. The federal government now consumes 55% of the Gross National Product (GNP) for last year and probably this year. We consumers get the remaining 45% to be divided up among us. LET'S GO BIG D!!!!! LET'S GO ALLAN!!! LET'S GO BRANDON!!!

    Hi. I operate a long wheelbase van in the UK. I get around £1.00 Sterling per mile. Just wondering how that compares to your rates with the difference in price of fuel.

  • @kipamore
    @kipamore2 жыл бұрын

    Industry wide, the carrier/truck split is between 25/75 and 33/66. So if the carrier is paying you a 1.00/m they are billing the customer 1.33/m plus the fuel surcharge (currently about 12cpm, it changes weekly). Some carriers nibble into the fuel, but most do not and pass it through to the truck. For myself, I keep my small fleet at carriers less for the rate, and more to keep the insurance affordable. I pay $104/mo for insurance BECAUSE I'm bundled with all the carrier's other units. Couldn't get anything even close to that booking my own freight.

    @@T8arena No, not at all. The carriers insurance covers the truck and load while it’s being transported. “Non-trucking liability” or NTL covers it when it’s unloaded. As I understand it, rates if you are buying your own insurance will be crazy high for the first few years, then drop as you get some time in accident free. I’ve had 3 vans on with a carrier for 7 years now, and I expect that if I called the insurance agent they would give me a reasonable rate if I went independent. Thing to know; it’s illegal for a carrier to require you to buy insurance from their preferred company. But most owners do. It pays to shop though - Allen was paying twice as much as me at Barrett.

    I would've wanted to be at $1.30 to go into an area with very little freight which means deadheading out plus gas prices crazy. Now if I wanted to go for the sake of a nice long drive or whatever the reason I'd be around $1.15 Personally I don't want to deal with the headache of getting a load out of there so I'm bidding the $1.30

    I'm trying to get out of local delivery and more into expedite, workingt for a fleet owner for the time being some of the percentages they are offering is like a slap in face. I understand the owner and all the money that goes into the fleet in order for it to run. I was quoted 60/40 in favor of them an me buy my own gas i laughed.i couldn't make anything why would I stay away from my family and home for less than what I'm making already? What do you consider a fair offer to your driver? being a owner yourself and did you drive for someone before you became a owner? I apologize if these questions are asked and answered already I'm just curious.

    This all sounds good but these days you're not getting high rates. If you get 95 cents on a load that's good. Unless it's like a 200 mile run. You'll be sitting for days over bidding on loads. Some area are only paying $1.50 let per mile to straight trucks. But to each their own I guess.

    So how would a new carrier get access to these load boards if we don't have 5 trucks to start with or 7 years in business? As a new carrier 3 weeks in everyone wants 30/60/90 but by that time especially with insurance it's game over.

  • @EverythingApax

    Best way to get through the aging of authority is to sign on with a small company that allows you to have your own insurance that way your insurance can be used towards your authority to keep it active. During that time use the load boards You can get access to to fill out carrier packets and bid loads to get comfortable with the process.
