eclipseNF It's odd how the people who live in an area react negatively to people that invade and occupy their homeland or come there as a result of the occupation to exploit the land/people/resources in a hostile fashion and quickly reach the point where they feel hatred towards said occupiers. Whites are SOOOO mistreated, misunderstood and oppressed. All we wanted from the people in places that we decided to colonize was to do all the grunt work of resource extraction, prepare them for export and load them into transports/ships for little to no pay, duplicate that labor model in other places we needed cheap labor, do so with a smile on their face and to appreciate/thank us for the opportunity when nothing of value was left and we decided to pack up and go repeat the process somewhere else. Seems like not too much to ask in exchange for giving them the gift of "civilization" and letting them know where their place in the cultural and geopolitical hierarchy was. Most people have to pay a lot of money for the opportunity to get an education like the one we gave to the non European people of the world for "Free". You're Welcome!!! TRAGIC!!!

LOL! That's such a strong come back... (Psst, not really. Pretty weak, actually.). Also, it does nothing to diminish the facts presented and the point made. But then again, you're dealing with all the oppression and racial animus being hurled your way by the people your country colonized and exploited, so you probably were too distracted by that to come up with anything on topic or relevant in any way. So go off and be a SJW for your people and their cause. Impressive how you're out there fighting the good fight so that they can keep all the ill gotten gains from it without having to acknowledge enjoying the benefits that come from those gains makes you complicit/accessories after the fact if you don't except the responsibilities that come with it. Also, it's very important that those people benefiting without taking any responsibility not have to be subjected to the truth and be made to feel uncomfortable about any ugliness and/or cruelty in their ancestral history. THEY are the victims, after all... TRAGIC!!!

Yes, China has many bad things. But China also has many good things, and it's important to realise that we are ALL just people, regardless of where we come from. People who say only good things or only bad things about other cultures/countries are racists/ignorant. It's important to fully understand all aspects of foreign societies. And learning about foreign societies can help you to learn what your own faults are, which may not be easy to perceive unless you interact with foreigners.

I learn from Chinese culture everyday. I’m native from San Francisco so mostly influenced from Southern China but now we have lots of Mandarin speakers. I currently do a driver job like taxi/Uber/Lyft and enjoy my Chinese customers allot and they tip me almost every time, very cool, but I LIKE Chinese people... why not? Hehe. Other drivers do t get many tips and my black friend got zero tips from Chinese... maybe some racism BUT ALSO my black friend never gave extra service and felt like a slave to put in the full service so why can a Chinese tip for not a good feeling? Anyways just want to comment on your comment to shore up relations as many Chinese & European / Western people have genuine affection/interest. My started in Bruce Lee as a hero I looked up to, then the classical art and food of China... eventually now it’s grandmas n grandpas at my local gym with good advices and healthy Qi Gongs... Anyways I’m passionately in Western Spiritual Systems & Wellness but continue to appreciate “playing” Kung fu, and some Chinese Classical period dramas.

Talking "negative" or simply pointing out cultural facts about another country is not a definition of racism. Racism is when you commit an act to deprive someone of the same rights, access or opportunities you would give to yourself or other people who you do not discriminate against. It's extremely bad when you use the "racist" accusation against people in Western countries. It's the worse thing you can do. Think of something that is the worse thing anyone can do in China - that's similar to accusing someone of racism in the West.

I love this video. My son decided to go to China because he wanted to do something extraordinary with his life before going on to uni. He had fantastic grades and his choice of schools but, he'd been sick for nearly all of grade 11 and 12 and so missed out on a ton of stuff. I was scared to death given his health issues but, he really felt determined to challenge himself. Ended up staying in China for almost 5 years, came home fluent in Mandarin and traveled all over Asia. So no, not all are "losers" some want more world life experience. Not everyone wants to do the boring path of school, marriage, regular job. He's a paramedic in Toronto now.

I have a sad story for you. At a school where I worked in northeast China, one of my fellow teachers was a young Canadian girl whose parents were Chinese from Vietnam and had immigrated to Canada after the Vietnam war. She was born and raised in Canada and saw herself only as Canadian, not as VNese and definitely not as Chinese, as that origin was many generations prior. She had a terrible experience, for the students assumed she was returning to the motherland to help the motherland grow, which meant nothing to her, as she was there for the same reason as all the rest of us: a foreigner going there for the job opportunity. When they finally realized that they kept calling her a traitor for turning her back on her motherland. If anything, her parents' motherland was VN for many generations. She broke down and quit after one semester. China has an odd view of overseas Chinese. They are always considered Chinese but in a twilight zone status of questionable or unknown motives. On the one hand they are sometimes seen as unpatriotic for abandoning their motherland, but they can also be seen as a window to the outside world, with which Chinese tend to have a love-hate relationship. When I was in China my first time back int he 80s, everything that required buying a ticket, such as admission and transportation (bus, train) had a three tier system posted. A low price for Chinese nationals, a much higher price for foreigners, and a medium price for overseas Chinese. I don't think that people in China realize how many people have left and continue to leave China over the past century, but they feel both insulted and jealous about it. The longer that many Chinese stay abroad the less emotional connection they have with China as a country and society, as opposed to the nostalgia of the identity, especially of they have difficulty fitting in. If you go back and can't speak the language, they won't know what to think of you, like a lost soul. I do recommend at the very least to do serious language study before you go there. And if you do go, don't take things too seriously or try to explain much. I find that people there tend to live in a bubble and just cannot comprehend certain concepts, because of the state propaganda, and education and media, so don't try.

England gets a tonne of immigrants from Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Jamaica and they have never been good immigrants in general. Get a lot if Indians too and they are good in general. Yet people that were English a couple of generations ago, they would integrate very well because the culture is almost the same, and are actually being oppressed in a foreign land, aren't allowed to come here.

Nice insight shining light on small niche group issues that exist. It was informative but maybe don't take it so much to heart or personally. Parts of it sounded like a rant, defensive, and parts arrogant or condescending. You and Winston should do your own thing and try not to pay much attention to the negativity, it comes with success. By all means, give your personal perspectives but try to keep it positive instead of trying to justify what you do in a defensive way. Sometimes self deprecating humor/comments can enhance your content. You guys don't need to polarize your audience in order to grow. Cheers!

As someone who lived in China for 7 years I can definitely identify with this video. I always hated people saying that you were a LBH for wanting to come out and teach English. Teaching ESL is NOT an easy job and most companies that I worked for in China did not let teachers fuck around and do nothing, they expected results. I worked very hard as an English teacher and while I did it for way too long, it was fun and satisfying and I enjoyed it a lot. That being said I did know many English teachers that did not take it seriously and only wanted to come to China and find "easy" girls, get drunk and party etc. While partying in China is indeed very fun it was not my primary reason for wanting to come there. I wanted to learn Chinese, which I did very well.

First of all they should define what specifically means racism and being racist in 2018. If it means being for or against any racial groups our his own racial group. And the difference between hatred speech and anthropologist's speech, because races and ethnicities and cultural values, IQ are not equals from a country to another. Anti-racism was the main asset of catholics'Church and in URSS spreading, Capitalism has been anti-racist too since the end of the segregations laws in USA and UK. Maybe bringing a contribution for antiracism or multi-racial societies' propaganda makes wealthy who joins it, hollywood, anti-defamation league are one the best example.

As a Chinese, I hope you not to feel too "negatively" about people post nasty comments on your video. Three points I want to make here, 1: they put bad comments on almost everything online, you name it, political figures, celebrities, countries, and your home town in china. ( Shanghai, Henan, Dongbei etc) But in real life they may not be such a dick, can be a perfectly normal guy, I guess internet is and has been used as a emotional trash can for this fast urbanising and changing society. 2: Let's face it China had fall behind and bullied and discriminated by Westerners not too long ago and the prejudice and misjudgement regarding china and chinese people still very common today. Thus a lot of Chinese people are extremely sensitive for a westerners to say bad things about china. Although themselves may have said worse things about china anyway. 3: Chinese culture makes people have strong group identity instead of as an individual. Therefore, when you say something about particular individual or group, they will immediately relates to themselves feeling insulted or proud depends on the contents. This is not to defend the nasty comments though, just want to let you know it is not particularly about you or against you personally.

Don't know who puts bad comments but if Chinese people posting bad comments about other people for what ever reason no matter how lame the other person insults. It is not a misjudgement but a representation of who they are and how they're representing their own country. For anyone who defend a bad guy view but not questioning the bad guy's attitude and the whole context of the case is not really justified even on the internet. A sensible Chinese person would never have ever resort to physical or verbal violence if they as a whole nation want peace. This is why arguments stays at home in China than in public and highly common on their difficulties and background, but in practice, it is easier said than done for some people to bring problems to other people. China cannot blame another if they self-inflicted upon themselves. However, they do in most cases in China, when there are insurance, frauds, scams and other situation. It is extremely common for Chinese people to point finger at someone even if they're Chinese. When a westerner is in the picture, it would make sense for a culture to redirect their attention to someone who are stereo-typically unaware on native experience, Chinese culture and history. You don't see a lot of white born raised in China that knows more Chinese history and culture than Chinese people, but trust me, they are very few and exceptional knowledgeable. Overall, this is why it is acceptable and common in China to do this but unacceptable outside China or to people with different backgrounds or skin living or working in China.

Had young people driving by and called me a f*cking Asian. (No bad feelings coz I am)Had old lady tell me the story that she visited China. I think the ignorance ideas of people is often caused by lack of exposure. Most people who have learned tiny bit of my culture will act surprisingly kind and understandable. Same as China, by banning KZread or any kind of main stream media, China has incredibly low exposure towards other culture which creates the ignorance. I personally enjoyed my ethnicity coz I can make jokes and laugh about it. Embrace the difference will simply make things easier I think. Hopefully it will get better. CHINGCHING OUT

+Drake Guo Wrong. These people will never change. Racism and hatred is instilled in its country. You let these foreigners come to your country, you welcome them with open arms and treat them as if they were gods. They take advantage of that as weakness and make fun of you and rape your women and then insult your culture and traditions because it is different than their own. If the Chinese people will unblock KZread and Google, China will see EXACTLY what these westerners think of them and that welcoming will no longer be welcoming. And the second you (Chinese) come to their country (America/Europe/CAN/AUS), they will spit at you, make fun of you and insult you. That's the truth. Gweilo.

My wife does not like German Sauerkraut. She is not a racist. This growing sensitivity to very minor criticism, this is becoming a huge problem. BTW. I solved the bread problem by baking my own. It's easy with a bread maker.

SweetLily, Nothing beats the smell of real bread, not that junk they sell you in China. Mildea bread maker, it's ok mall.midea.com/category?id=10048&mtag=40003.5.10048 . Some of the best are Panasonic bread makers.

Didn't you marry beer girl as well? So that's two Chinese gals you married. Being critical of China automatically gets you labelled as racist by some who can't tell the difference between criticism and racism, but far as I can tell, you see fairly balanced about your positive takes on China and the things that strike you as negative.

Snowbear I'll give you the benefit of the doubt that you aren't merely echoing the echo chamber and running with a narrative fallacy of his critics. Meaning, could you provide links to his videos and the times he's roughly handled his critics? You can message them to me directly, as youtube tends to eat links as spam.

It's interesting how two people can have the different impressions on just about everything. I saw the suit video and took it as he started wearing the suit because it made his job easier and he got better treatment. The doctor video didn't show him trying to teach medicine or train them to be doctor. He seemed to be pretty upfront about his job and how he goes about it. At least, that is how I perceived those videos.

Thanks Serpentza! I'll stick to who I am! I was starting to get sick and tired of trying to either connect or disconnect my identity to my japanese-chinese ancestry, whilst I grew up in the Netherlands. I guess I should give less fucks and just accept that I'm Dutch Asian haha

"Losers back home" changed history by not staying home. I really hate this internet resentment rhetoric. Not healthy to pay too much attention to. Just live your dreams and if being an expat is that, go for it. You aren't losing at life at all doing that.

Aossic Freud Right! What's the alternative, they should stay at home and be nothing their whole lives? It's probably used by jealous, insecure people. People that need to put others down to boost their own success or lack of.

It's a little different. Most "losers back home" come from developed, first world countries, not poor places with no opportunities. As for Serpentza, he comes from SA so I don't know how good his prospects would have been there.

Your videos are so good, when I was 13 I'd watch a guy called mordeth13 do motorcycle vlogs in Taiwan. So glad to find someone similarly honest on China. This is coming from someone who watches China LiveLeak videos and often believes that it's just a "socialist shithole" and doesn't hold promise despite its negatives. A 20 minute video from you on China is so easy to watch and brilliantly informative and mind-changing.

I knew a Japanese girl who used to think a Westerner living in Japan as a "loser" and Japanese women that dated them as "silly girls", BUT she could never counter the facts of what it takes to move to another country, she could never counter about Japanese moving to another country (are they losers), she could never counter that Japanese girls dating Westerners maybe just have a liking for Westerners which is no different to a Westerners having a preference for blondes or brunettes or Thai girls or Japanese Girls - its a silly idea
