The caller mistakenly thinks that the universe has to be "expanding into something", and that bigger "something" is Heaven. He misunderstands; by "expansion", we man that the ends of the universe are growing further apart from each other, not that the universe is expanding inside a bigger container. I've encountered this error from theists before, so I suspect it's being preached from the pulpit.

For sure it's being preached from the pulpit. Theists like David admittedly rely on their religious leaders for answers. They believe their doctrine and faith provides everything you need to find any solution, so it makes sense that they would go to them for answers about cosmology and accept whatever they tell them. When callers parrot out apologist buzzwords and talking points, I instantly know that they didn't get their "scientific" information from scientists. It's kind of smug I know, but I find it hilarious that these gullible idiots believe that their pastor is the appropriate person to inform them on matters of biology, cosmology, logic, etc. He's so precious, he even learned the word 'demonstrably' to make himself sound credible.

You're inferring that because you cannot comprehend that expansion can happen without an outside container in which the expanding object is being held in, but that doesn't mean there needs to be one or in fact is one. But I'm clearly wasting my time trying to explain this because you would realize this by now with the dozens of people also pointing it out, if you were capable of doing so. You're an exhausting person.

To begin with I do not adhere to beginings nor do I perceive the black hole containing our so called known universe evidence for limitations of any sort I also have faith that our primate species will meet extinction have no answer to unexplainable phenomonem.

The two things I learned from this exchange are: 1. Biased people will always project their biased reasoning onto you. They assume that their standards of evidence are your standards of evidence. If you say, "Well, according to scientific discoveries, the Earth is billions of years old." And they say "According to the Bible, the Earth is 7,000 years old." They actually think that your statements are of equal weight. 2. Put them on the spot in their own story, question them using their own standards. It's remarkable how much people get tripped up having to explain the minutia of the anachronistic details of their poorly thought out opinions. I understand that this super bespoke approach cannot be shotgunned out towards the masses, but it can be used to explain to your siblings why their opinions are not worthy of consideration even by their own logic.

I don't know how the hosts could refrain from laughing at this guy's "proof" because I couldn't.

Just because we can cherrypick a few words from the Ancient Hebrew Flat Earth Model of the universe that some people will reinterpret to fit within the scope of modern physics, doesn’t provide proof, it just shows you have imagination.

I'm surprised you didn't shoot him down when he made it clear his version of the universe necessarily states the Earth existed before the stars, which no scientist accepts as true.

The Bible said god stretched, not that he is continually stretching. The continual stretching would be more accurate but that's not what it says. Also, the CMB doesn't show that there is no more expansion, the expansion is still happening and my understanding is that it's increasing, not decreasing.

Continued facepalming during religious arguments can lead to injury.

If God is omnipresent, he must be expanding at the same rate as the universe (or faster). Is there anything in the bible that says God is constantly expanding? Other than maybe by inference, probably not. You would think a book about God would mention it.

Goofy mistake #1... David claims that space (spacetime), is no longer expanding. But everything cosmologists have ascertained leans towards an increase in the expansion of the visible universe... There is more, but I'll let the boys till him in.

An atheist dealing with this kind of first cause argument and not in a YEC model, should just say, OK, I'll give you the premise, a God created the universe. So what, doesn't affect me now. As Hitchens said, you have all your work ahead of you because that doesn't say which God or how that God interacts with people as that is the God they all want to evidence.

David's last response to Matt has provided evidence... not of a god but of Believer Butthurt.

Matt is not correct here in his wording. Expansion of the unverse means indeed that new space is continuously produced. I do not know why the caller thinks that proves God, but the question where this new space comes from is a valid question.

@UCdfrnEceQ5VwjqSrYFRXGWg If the universe expands that means that the distance between the galaxies becomes greater, that means space is prodced between the galaxies. It is not llike the universe is expanding into an alrady existing space, at least that is not how physicists describe it.

@@dantheman2907 The balloon is expanding into a space that is already there. That is not how physicists describe the expansion of the universe. Similarly, when space curves due to gravity, that does not mean that it curves into something else. Yet the balloon analogy is useful. When you have a balloon full of dots, and the balloon expands, then the distance between the dots becomes longer. Where does this extra area come from? Answer: from the thinning of the material the balloon is made from. So when space expands: what is thinning?

Seriously depressing .

😂 The Bible also claims that stars can land on Earth 🌎 as gently as a fig's leaves too. That definitely would Not actually work out well for Earth. The Bible says a Lot of crap that's not true.

It's getting harder and harder to watch these types of podcasts because of the mentality and lack of reasoning of the theist who call in.

While funny, I think that kind of cut-off that happened at the end can be counter-productive ("See! They cut me/him off! They won't listen!"). David was going to claim that Matt was demonstrably wrong, but although I'm confident that there was no way he could demonstrate that Matt was wrong, it would have been good to hear his attempts even if Matt and Kenneth just went on to show that David had demonstrated nothing at all... But hey, it's their show, and they would have had other callers to get to.

As much as David is grossly incorrect and misinformed about every single one of the scientific things he cited, I wish Matt hadn't hung up on him when he did. Part of the problem with these jackasses is they're able to still easily maintain their comfortable delusions of knowledge if they aren't continually challenged and corrected. Matt did a great educational service by explaining to David and the audience why his "argument" and "evidence" are fallacious nonsense, more so than he does with a lot of callers. If he had ended the call before doing even that, listeners would've missed out on that step by step evisceration of David's ridiculous hypothesis. When David arrogantly claimed "It's demonstrably false everything Matt said." I would've liked to see Matt go for the killing blow and put this wiener in his place for all the listeners to hear. It's not necessary, because his first criticism should be sufficient for most reasonable people, but I'd wager listeners who are on the fence could irrationally conclude that Matt was "running away" and was too scared to let David expose him and blah blah blah. That's ridiculous, but obviously some people buy into that crap, David being on of them when he straight up whined and accused Matt of doing it. I say that if these losers want to talk shit when they have no clue how to derive reasonable conclusions, then crucify them in front of everyone for having the nerve to do so.
