Existence of God and Other Deities | The Global Philosophy of Religion Project | Panel

How do Hindu, African, Islamic, and Jewish traditions address the existence of God and other deities? How can we know God/deities? What do religious and mystical experiences tell us? Do all religions worship the same God? A panel of distinguished philosophers of religion joins host Robert Lawrence Kuhn to discuss these questions and more.
This panel features Jessica Frazier (University of Oxford), Motsamai Molefe (University of Fort Hare), Nazif Muhtaroğlu (Syracuse University), and Samuel Lebens (University of Haifa).

The African tradition is very interesting. The idea that a perfect being doesn't need worship is a good example, which could be used as counter apologetic against Christian apologists and their constant appeal to intuition. 58:10 I don't see how an individual versions of a God is a bit like studying the same universe. "Clearly they are, but they gonna get really different pictures." Now, are they? Is this actually analogous or a false analogy? The hallmark of science is to get to the same conclusion every time, independent of perspective.

If a man were to worship and nurture a tree, and prayed every day for that tree to bear him fruit for consumption, and that tree did bear him good fruit: Then that tree would be his god. Since the tree is real and existing that would mean that his god is a real and existing god. Christians worship the Supreme God which is, ‘the cause of all creation’. Love of Christ in our hearts leads to community’s prayers which are answered with blessings including prosperity. The Holy Spirit gives us moral strength and is recognized as the Christian communities guiding influence. From a science perspective; ‘the cause of all creation’, originates from the laws of Nature. Social morals and ethics give rise to a stable society capable of social endeavors. In addition, Emotional Intelligent is responsible for the needed communication in any complex social environment. From a scientific viewpoint the worshiped Christian God is a real and existing Supreme God. Sustaining the universe, this all-powerful, present and knowing God is described by the Laws of Nature. The included source of All -Good is made evident when the Laws of Nature are used solely for the benefit of man’s survival and prosperity. The Holy Spirit accommodates this process of moral goodness and advanced communication. With this understanding, Atheism is no longer considered rational as there is now scientific evidence for the opposite view. It must be said that this view of God is not the regular supernatural view of God since science does not associate with the supernatural. With this understanding the Christian God is a real, existing God; Not supernatural. It is the lack of knowledge of the natural universe that has led to the terms, ‘supernatural’ and ‘miraculous’, to explain the unknown. Many Believers will not comprehend or endorse this view of a non-supernatural supreme God. Regardless, science evidence reveals that, 'Worshiping Christ which is in your heart leads to answered prayers'.

The science method uses the real physical world when determining experiments and definitions of the natural universe. The view of Causality as an unknown natural event has led to the evidence of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit effects Christian life by dwelling within believers, guiding them into a righteous and faithful life. Any definition that describes the Holy Spirit as a feeling; a presences, an influence or guiding companion, has a natural event for Causality associated with this effect. Science has confirmed the benefits of being spiritual as seen in the studies by Harold G. Konenig; 'Religion, Spirituality, and Health'. Spirituality of religious people has proven health benefits over the non-spiritual. Spirituality's association with diminished egocentrism is responsible for the successful communications found in every culture and society. Emotional Intelligence includes; self-regulation, motivation, empathy and social skills. All of these traits arise naturally from successful Religious Systems in the form of individuals developing into Spiritual persons. Science studies prove the existents of the 'Holy Spirit' by means of the benefits associated with the Holy Spirit. Scientific evidence for the existence of the Christian God has been found.

Many atheists' try to argue against God by attacking the beliefs of manmade religions and the contradictions that are inherent within them. This is pointless because the existence of God does not depend on any of these religions or belief systems. I believe that humans are hardwired to know that they have a Creator but really know little else about such a deity. Through our consciousness man tries to form some conduit through which they may know God. Man will often come together in community with others who have shared beliefs and from this the great religions have come to be. We truly have no way to know the true nature of God. An exception may be for those who have had direct contact but we have no way of knowing if they actually did. I believe that a rational conscious person can look at the complexities of life, the universe and the incredibly exact natural laws that allows all to exist. Most will come away from such observations fairly certain that this all didn't happen by accident. A higher power set all in motion, a power that is outside our temporal existence and is not subject to the laws we live by. Such a power is called "God" but may be very different than our many interpretations. God is the original mover, the first cause, and does not need to be created. As my devote mother used to say "God was, is and always will be".

It is normally accepted that God knows the WHOLE future and is here interacting with us. You should distinguish between "possible futures" (that God could maybe modify) and "THE ONE actual future" (including the modifications by God) that will ACTUALLY take place. Thus, God is supposed to perfectly know that One future which will ACTUALLY come true. Once again, that actual future is ALREADY AMENDED in accordance with the God's wishes. But this implies a SEPARATION of God from the world and mankind: God would simply BOREDLY STARE at what happens in the world, doing NOTHING MORE than staring at that well-known film which simply regularly UNFOLDS. God had really NOTHING to do because even the God's voice is ALREADY RECORDED on that film: his power will AUTOMATICALLY do what needed. This means that BEFORE that there has been a "first phase" where God did NOT know the WHOLE future. Indeed (1) KNOWING the ACTUAL future and (2) being FREE TO DECIDE are MUTUALLY EXCLUSIVE, God can have either one, but not the two of them AT THE SAME TIME for logical reasons: if God "reserved the right" to change the future whenever He likes, this would mean He doesn't really know what will happen. God knows what will happen instead, the item is concluded. Since God is ONLY FREE TO DECIDE WHEN HE IS IN THE FIRST PHASE, this means that we have a relationship with Him when He is in that phase, thus we could even succeed when insisting with our prayers. But this means we have a relationship with God who is IN THE PAST, in a very distant past, the mankind was not born yet ("the world has not known you") ("no one ever saw God"). But from that past God is able to REACH US HERE NOW with his words and actions. Since there is NO ONE HERE to speak those words, you can say that the God's presence here corresponds to the presence of a SPIRIT: He is the SPIRIT OF GOD. From what set out above, the conclusion of the God's work in that remote past would coincide with His SEPARATION from us, because the future known to Him would simply automatically come true, simply UNFOLDING without any further God's intervention. Instead, at the conclusion of that work, God got rid of his power to become like a normal person, without any power: the Son of God. Thus, "Son" only means that He DERIVES from God, He is no "normal Son". Therefore Jesus INHERITS the reign of God, EVERYTHING "The Father loves the Son and has given all things into His hand.". Jesus - who is a man now - is DIFFERENT from the Father since He has no power at all “ I from myself am not able to do a thing”. However, He is NOT DISTINCT from the Father either, since He DERIVES from Him "He who has seen me has seen the Father.". Thus, for Father + Son you cannot use the pronoun "He", you cannot use the pronoun "They" either. You can say that God is more than One and less than Two in number.

God only be real when time is right, example, if you believe, god is there, if you are not believe in God, he is not there or not exist. did you all know, GOD is grand scale of what we believed, which is watching from a 3rd person perspective philosophy?

God can never be conceived. He can only be realized. After all, though we give them for granted, even the material elements are inconceivable. If they were conceivable, we could create them.

God Almighty and other gods are primates, mortal, and closely enough related to us as Homo sapiens. Historically He gave us technology etcetera and in return we gave him sacrifice etcetera. His children have nothing to offer God today but perhaps His protection. "The King is dead long live the King". The God of Abraham reigns Supreme...still. I DO BELIEVE SOMETIMES. I am being sincere and I am almost sane, sober, and a devout atheist. Jesus may have been His Son and an immaculate conception could easily happen today. I don't intend to create a religion since it has existed as old as mankind. Aliens incounters are incounters with God's people and miracles are very high technology and selective breeding has been happening forever. E.T. phone home. Good day. I love you all and l love all of you.

So much from the B team, would be great if we could hear debate in major league now, with representatives from the most successful nation on the planet. Only kidding, but richest cultures are Catholic, Evangelical, Chinese Taoists and also atheists. What makes those nations and cultures so successful, in a material sense, Perhaps there is a common denominator. They're all religious, but only on paper, the perception of ultimate divine being is almost completely gone from their daily practices. There are many religious objects, but they serve as museums or tourist attractions. Church communities are very strong, but their role is mostly humanitarian, dedicated to support of the weak, disabled, homeless and poor. It's not only about benevolence, the richest countries have excellent government social services. Additional church community support is often a replacement for recovery of those who committed ultimate sins. But not sins against good, they broke the law, religious moral guides are already integrated into a legal system, community helps with reintegration of the wicked back into civilized society. You won’t find this is any modern book of law or constitution, but this is how it really is. Atheist nation are no exception, most atheists will follow general Christian ethics, regardless if an individual is aware where those moral principles came from or not. Successful religions today are focused primarily on humanism, in the widest possible sense of this term. Ideology is much more present than in actual religious states, but it's hidden in sublime components, like in movies, music, industrial and fine arts, media, politics, finances, consumerism and economy, everywhere means exactly that. It's not only because all of them humanize God, this part originate from European Roman Empire legacy, utilizing science in civilian societies has played even more important part. People don't learn about facts of life from parents or in churches, they go to school and must work hard to get a diploma.
