It's just to sell more stuff. They sell the spray. However, from their standpoint, it helps seal and protect the wrap and exhaust metal

Is the idea of the wrap to keep the outside cool if you touch off it

Does dei make tan wrap spray. If so, I can’t seem to find it. Would love to wrap my pipes in tan and have the same protective coating. All I seem to see is white, aluminum, and black.

do I wait for the wrap to dry before applying the silicone spray?

With the traditional, glass fiber-based wraps, yes - it's best to spray the HT Silicone Coating on a dried wrap. For Titanium, pre-wetting the roll is not necessary, as the basalt fiber is already very flexible.

Can you use this on rubber hoses like a power steering line ?!🔥

We would not recommend using exhaust wrap for an application like that. Check our reply on your other comment 👍

Is better to paint the pipes before wrapping them? And can it be wrapped before heat curing the paint?

  • @DesignEngineering

    @DesignEngineering

While not required, you certainly can paint before wrapping, and yes you can wrap before heat curing. It might take longer to fully cure, and it will be easier to scratch the uncured paint off while wrapping, so take care.

@@DesignEngineering Is there a benefit in doing so? Will this prolong the life of the pipe or simply complicate things?

@@thomasjj1976 If the pipes are a mild steel, it will aid in keeping rust down. Having the paint on there can also help give the wrap something to grip to when starting.

What if I used high temp 2000 degree header paint on the wrap instead of that recommended spray? I got the wrap just to keep the engine temp lower.

We can't think of any reason you couldn't use another paint to coat your wrapped headers, but we haven't tested other paints and can't speak to how well they'd work. Something to note: Wrapping your headers will not reduce engine temperature. It will only prevent other components from becoming heatsoaked by the radiant heat coming off the headers, and increase exhaust flow.

@@DesignEngineering it does reduce it ,its the radiation against the crankcase and the oil pan.

You’ll want to seal the wrap but if you don’t it’ll still be fine. The water will evaporate out of the wrap but eventually the heat from the exhaust will cause the wrap to turn white. Best to avoid all that by sealing it as instructed.

Adding weight but I don't see why not. I have it on my cat back because my rear cabin is stripped and it helps prevent heat transfer into cabin

I did this to mine years ago without sealing it and it’s holding strong. It’s turned white in some areas because I didn’t seal it. I’m redoing mine now and will be sealing it.

Along with adding color to the wrap, HT Silicone Coating increases the longevity of your wrap by locking the fibers together.

I was thinking of using fibreglass fire blanket and wrap my factory manifolds on a Buick based v6 3.8 litre engine. I was thinking it's free! I have heaps lying around but I'm not sure if it will lower engine temps ? Any reply appreciated ? Cheers from Australia
