And even then she has to hold herself back from BEAST mode because she knows that she can't handle it the way she'd like because she's basically an arbiter for what amounts to Small Claims Court, NOT Family Court. It's good though that she still will reach out to have the cases involving Family Court reviewed as to not totally claim "oh not my problem" or "That's beyond my pay grade". She will at least get it in the right ball park even if she can't legally go to bat.

You know what..I did. And they refused to take him(Thank God in retrospect) but long story short my son was 8 or so I was a single mom and through no fault of my own necessarily, we ended i up in a situation where we literally had no where to go. All day I had been calling up local resources to no avail and it was getting later and later colder and colder when I just broke. I explained to him what I was going to do. It was a mess. Sitting in a laundry mat I called. And waited on hold for an hour then rep asked questions etc etc and gave me a number to a winter shelter even though it was summertime lol but eventually end up telling me that there is nothing they can do for me. Only option given was that she could call the police for me or I can call the police on myself for myself??? I volunteered to call and we hung up. Before even got a chance to make the call the police showed up(apparently CPS recognized the liability lol) I just want to say the reason why I called I don't think I would have done eating anything different today because I do not want to put him through the unknown when there was a better option for him. We had no food or money and i just felt it would be pure selfishness to have my young (autistic) 8 yr old son go through things i wasn't even certain i was ready for. Its been almost 10 yrs and I'm constantly retelling that crazy story to people who have had CPS involvement lol CPS literally refused to take my kid when I legit wanted and needed them to step in! Its been 10 yrs and my son and I still had a running inside joke about it that I'm now forced to retire because he just turned 18😡 yep good times lol

@@Chauna30 Well it seems ur situation was totally different than this mother and her husband being strung out on drugs. To me, that makes it different wanting to call CPS. This mother didnt do it out of being honest, she did it to get rid of her 4 children. One of those children whom seems to be mentally disturbed and or suffering from a mental illness including behavioural issues. Tge grandmother is getting rid of a 2nd child for simular reasons. Makes you wonder how those children ended up that way? Their naglectful drug addicted parents that didnt want to raise emotionally crippled children that were damages by their actions. So IMO, your case vs theirs is totally different.

What I don't understand is why would a couple have children when they can't support themselves? The second that "grandma" started talking, my "child protection radar" went off (I work in the ER). Her speech, mannerisms, stance, slow comprehension, behaviour, and more, heavily suggested that she was intoxicated in court. There are health conditions that mimic some of those exhibited behaviours, but they would normally preclude that individual from being considered as "safe" to care for a child - so I highly doubt that they are responsible. It's far more probable that she's not sober. Hearing of her son's drug issues, it certainly looks like the apple didn't fall far from the tree...

As a former IRS auditor, this is clearly an IRS issue and not the courts. She would have had to file a return by mailing it in and the IRS would have seen that the kids were claimed twice and begun to ask questions needing documents to figure out who the rightful claimant was. The IRS would have sorted it out and if he were found to be the guilty party, the IRS would have billed him for whatever refund amount he already received and given her a refund. Based on this case, she hardly worked, so it would have been hard to prove that she took care of a household. Depending on when she married her now husband, they could have filed jointly to help her boost her chances with the stepdad's income included. But they would have had to be married because a boyfriend isn't allowed to claim their girlfriend's kids for certain credits, but a stepdad could. The grandma could claim them as well on her return but her only having them for 2 months, hurts her chances as well. But the same thing would have applied to her, she would have had to mail her return in as well and let IRS sort things out. Honestly, it sounds like neither party could claim kids, depending on the credits they were trying to get.

Actually, CPS helps parents and children together as long as they pass all the requirements. And they are available to help parents in crisis. Example....Mom is having mental health crisis. She feels like she wants to kill them. Like literally drown them in the tub. (That skat happens all the time btw) Who does she call? Maybe police, and the police contact social services.? Or she can call CPS and say I feel like I am a danger to myself and my children. And CPS will come to the rescue. I actually called CPS on myself and asked for help. My daughter was angry that I would not let her go on her senior trip to Italy, because she didn't make the grades and failed to keep our written agreements. She was so angry that she pushed me. Like hard. And I clocked her. Like Hard. I slapped her in the face for the first time in my life. I didn't even know that I was doing it! It was pure actions equal consequences. Just like I was parented.....by very physically abusive. I felt a little bit bad about it. And honestly part of it felt good. But long and short here. I called CPS and I spoke directly to a counselor. Who asked me numerous questions. The biggest one was, "do you feel in control of your anger now". Meanwhile my dramatic daughter was beating her face up. So when she called CPS they already had the story on file and that I could hear her beat herself up. I felt terrible 😔. And I felt supported by CPS . I would rather her give up the kid and protect him, verses killing him because she couldn't cope.

@@moniqueengleman873 Calling CPS is just like calling the police, if you happen to get a bad noodle, you're totally f*cked. I'd imagine whatever the reason was she had to call CPS on herself, couldn't have been that bad since they put the kids back in her custody. That in combination with the fact that she got lucky with whatever caseworker she ended up with. Some caseworkers are either stupid or evil or both, and if you end up with one of those they will look for and sometimes even make up reasons to take children from their parents custody. You got very lucky too, calling CPS on yourself is not smart. Unless someone is neglecting or abusing their kids, but parents like that have no shame and would never take accountability. I admire the intentions you had behind calling CPS on yourself and im so glad you were lucky to find the support you were seeking, BUT you are absolutely 1000% naive for doing so

She explained one time on a late night show how the process works, she and her team reviews the complaints and answers beforehand, so she knows what the case is and where she thinks it's going to go and then asks the pertinent questions. She said that there is ALOT of work before hand to both hear and decide the case in under 1 hour and then the editing makes it down to 20 minutes or less. In the new format, we get to see the team she works with, no longer "behind the scenes" as in the former "Judge Judy".

The grandmother admitted she only had the children for the last 2 months of the year in question. Therefore, she is not entitled to claim them on her taxes. I believe the tax law states the individual who provided for over 6 months out of the year. It sounds like each parent had them 5 months each and the grandmother had them 2 months. I’m curious as to why the mother would call child protective services on herself instead of seeking help from the father or grandmother. She looks very overwhelmed. I hope they receive the help they need and the children are okay.

She got her money for him and his mom had to pay it back. These people just wanted money and thought they could pull one over on Judge Judy.

There is no excuse to give up a child especially to an u fit parent. Just because you are homeless doesn't make you unfit. There are places to help until you get on your feet. So long as the child is put first, clean, fed, has medical care, has an education....there is no reason they should take a child away. I feel this dad did his best but was unaware...but slightly gave up on his children. The courts should help.him get custody, if he is fit.
