I have Leg/foot Lymphedema for 5 yrs now after having 17 nodes removed. (I am thicker all over actually even though I have been active from the start.) I have found swimming is by far the best exercise for my lymphedema. That way you don't have to worry about overheating and sweating triggering a reaction of swelling. You have compression in the water, not fighting gravity, don't need to wear garments , you are moving all the muscles pumping the lymph and breathing deep, Anyone can do it... at any level of fitness. I swim very slowly as if doing yoga. It addresses my lymphedema as a total system, which it is. It is pleasurable and freeing.. It is far more effective than the drainage massage (passive) although daily self massage at the beginning and end of the day is good.. as well as my Burdock tea...low salt diet.. I don't know why swimming is not studied in Lymphedema research .. and would love leg lymphedema to be included in studies, we are often forgotten.

As someone who is new to lymphedema in a leg due to lymph node removal, I so thank you for this information. I’m waiting to see a specialist, and feel much more informed while I wait a few more weeks for personal education.

Glad to read you are also using a vibration plate. I think this is hugely beneficial for our self-care to keep the lymph fluid flowing along with our daily lymphoedema routine. UPDATE: I already had another health condition as well as lipo-lymphoedema. I have 5 benign tumours on my kidneys called angiomyolipomas and I've discovered from Kelly Sturm's list of contra-indications for vibrating plates that I should not be using one because of my tumours. Feel gutted about this because I have now had to stop using it - it was really helping me and I did feel more energised. If you have any other medical conditions folks please take note of Kelly's advice about using vibrating plates and the list of conditions indicating perhaps you should not be using one.
