In the first of our new seven episode ‘Big Wacker Neuson Visit’ series, Peter Haddock travels to its impressive factory and proving ground in Linz, Austria, meeting up with Andreas Gstoettenbauer.
Peter first met Andreas at Bauma for the launch of its exciting new EW100 compact wheel loader powered by Perkins Engines. This video shows it assembled in the factory and in action on its impressive proving ground.
Walking around the factory, Andreas talked Peter through the process: “It all starts with our 3D design teams and supply partners like Perkins Engines, who worked with us to develop the EW100.
“And once we have completed our design and prototype testing phase, we are ready to go into full production with our dual line approach at Linz for both our wheeled and tracked machines.
“Because Linz is our global centre for EW100 production, models we make here go to customer job sites across the globe. So, we designed our assembly process to support the whole range of options in one line.
“This includes the option of the 2.8 litre 55 kW or the larger 3.6 litre 100kW Perkins Stage V engines.
“Throughout each assembly stage, we carry out product testing before the finished machine is taken into our specialist testing and optimisation chamber.
“Here, it runs through numerous load cycles, and our engineers ensure all the right settings are loaded onto each machine.
“Once the EW100 has cooled down, we have the final inspection area, which includes leakage testing and boom loading before the machine is signed off and ready for delivery.”
And for those customers that want to try out the EW100, there is a new proving ground just down the road where Peter got to see the EW100 in action using a tiltrotator.
It can actually be calibrated at the factory to operate with engcon, Rototilt Group AB and Steelwrist tiltrotators and is designed to use both 2D and 3D machine control from the likes of Leica Geosystems.
