Introducing the new Wacker Neuson EW100 compact wheeled excavator with Product Expert, Andreas

Peter Haddock walks around the very compact and powerful machine, now the largest excavator in its range, with product expert Andreas Gstoettenbauer.
They talk about the design of the machine, which can be powered by either a 2.8 litre 55 kW or a larger 3.6 litre 100kW Stage V engine. And amazingly, both engine sizes can be fitted into the back of the machine.
Andreas: “Our design team has managed to fit the engine, complete with regen system, into a very compact space which works very well, and it has a lifetime DPF to allow the operator to get on with the work.
“With fuel economy now more important than ever, we added an auto stop function to reduce idle time, and the engine has been optimised with the support of Perkins engineers to offer both an eco and a power mode.
“These modes are designed to keep fuel consumption as low as possible, whilst ensuring the power is needed to reach the up to 18.6 mph road speed and hydraulic demand of attachments like tiltrotators.”
In fact, Wacker Neuson displayed the machine at Bauma with Engcon, Rototilt and Steelwrist tiltrotators highlighting the flexibility of the machine. And the functionality offered by all these brands is already built into the control system. This unit also boasted an OilQuick quick coupler.
Regarding Safety, the EW100 is equipped with a cab that boasts a huge amount of glass to aid 360 degree visibility.
Using the 10 inch touch screen display or a jog dial, operators can customise the controls and joystick, with each individual programming their preferences that are ‘ready to go’ when they enter their id code.
There is easy access for daily maintenance from the ground, with fuel filling and air filters positioned very close to each other. The hydraulic array is also very neat and provides both protection and easy maintenance. Access to the machine is enhanced with red coloured steps and well placed handrails.
When it comes to operation, the EW100 has three steering modes to handle a variety of job site applications, as well as road travel.
The toggle switch can select front-wheel, four-wheel or crab steering. This allows for more efficient road travel, a narrow turning radius, or driving parallel to buildings.
Similarly, the ‘triple boom’ provides greater manoeuvrability and allows the bucket to be pulled right up to the travel gear or the dozer blade. This blade can also be used with support stabilisers to add stability to the machine.
It certainly is an impressive new addition to the range, and one which we are sure will be very popular in the UK market.
