    Shout out to @BinisGunsAndGames for mentioning that there is a firmware update for all units with Batch 0723 (located on bottom of device) that gives a nice improvement to framerate and resolves any freezing/bug glitch when changing the unit to 60FPS. Great review! I just got mine on this past Saturday and it was due to be delivered on this Tuesday. Thats very fast considering it was shipped from the UK. Why is nobody mentioning the fact that the display resolution is only 360 pixels wide, not the 1920 pixels wide that it records, as replayed in this video. You only see pretty low res when looking through the eyepiece (and the eyepiece lens itself is terrible-- blurry at edges. I removed it and replaced with my own lens). Overall sensitivity is good, something like 1/3 the sensitivity of an Opsin, and it's sensitive with an external 980 nm illuminator, which the GaAs Gen 3 is almost completely insensitive to. For red light sensitivity comparison: Nightfox Prowl=1 Opsin= 3, Gen 3=100. At 980 nm, Nightfox Prowl=1 Opsin= 2, Gen 3=0.02 Also the illuminators on the Prowl are very good, and effectively 940 is invisible to the eye, whereas 850 is visible (and obvious in the dark). Gen 3 GaAs has roughly the same sensitivity as the Prowl when a scene is illuminated only by the Prowl's 940.

I really like the idea of digital night vision. ❤I just wish their was a way to mount the device upside down so the illumination was over the optic. Maybe the mounting stud could be located top and bottom so you can have an option.

  • @DavidSchwartzjr

    @DavidSchwartzjr

    7 ай бұрын

    Hey there, so there are lots of options for IR lights to choose from, just make sure you go with an 940nm option. Some come with pressure switches, etc, but I have the ones I use linked in the description of this video. As to where to mount, it just depends. I have one mounted to my fast helmet, and one mounted to my rifle. I only use my helmet IR if I'm walking around and not necessarily worried about others with NVG seeing me. If I was going to be using an IR laser/light for any type of hunting option, weapon mounted would be my only recommendation. If I was pointing a light at something, I also want my rifle pointed at it as well. Since you're new to NVG, its worth mentioning these are not recommended in a scenario where others may be also using NV since the IR is like a beacon for others to see (same for them if they are using IR lights/laser you'll see them very clearly at great distances). If let's say someone else did not have NVG, they would never be able to see your IR lights/laser.

    I heard that the Prowl's 940 illuminator is very bright to the naked eye. Was your external 940 illuminator as visable to the naked eye as the Prowl's built in 940 setup or are they about the same?

  • @DavidSchwartzjr

    @DavidSchwartzjr

    8 ай бұрын

    Hey Matthew, I am wondering if what you heard was perhaps in regard to the 850nm led illuminators. The 940nm led of the prowl is larger in size compared to the led of the external IR flashlight that I use, however the prowl’s 940 led is pretty much invisible in the dark from about 3-4ft away. Even the highest IR5 setting on 940nm is basically too hard to see. The 840nm led however is very visible, from even the lowest setting. My external IR flashlight led is visible up to about 10 ft away, but it’s a much smaller size than the Nightfox led. Trade off is the external light is much much brighter and has a wider beam. For size comparison the prowl led is about the size of a dime and my external IR flashlight led is about the size of a pencil eraser. Hope that helps! 😎👍

    It's funny, I've had both "eyeclops" night vision devices by jakkspacific and with them being simple cameras with a filter, I'm sort of...disgusted? By the latency issues. It almost feels like this device is just trying to do too much when it doesn't need to. Watching the light intensity steps as it was adjusting really bothered me.

    more of what lighting it has on board not what else you can buy and add to costs and any different brands will change outcomes so what it has only and in a lot more settings not just a backyard and a 50yd walk down a field and slight trees. Something like a car parking lot say apartments or park where dark areas and heavy lighting. Country road with limited housing with some streetlights and some dark with maybe a porchlight on in the woods like at least 50 yds into some somewhat thick foliage. Just a lot of what people will be using it in not just trying your best to get the best pictures out of it as you are doing. More real world i guess is what I am saying. like a overcast sky and full cloud coverage to a clear no cloud in the sky type differences walking in a neighborhood and see what cars coming with headlights on how that all effects the image without sitting changing, get on what seems best for the time and go for a 5 min walk around without adjustments to maybe a click here or there, as something someone might do in real life.
