No worries, mate. There's no shame in that if there's a good reason (like in this case, for instance). Albeit you might watch out a little if you happen to listen to Hozier (very talented Irish laddie), for instance, because that lad also has a tendency to sometimes incite lacrimal overflow via talent and topic. ;-)

Thank you. My husband died almost five months ago, in February. We would have been married 40 years on May 15. We were together over 40 years. This song is us. 💔 It made me cry, but it made me feel like my husband was with me. 💕

For anyone watching this who doesn't know about Jason Isbell and the band The 400 Unit (absent in this video) ... if you liked this please dig further. He is the best lyricist of the generation. Try 'Children of Children' which is about the guilt he feels for changing his mother's life by being born when she was so young. Or if you want a really long slow atmospheric Neil Young type thing try 'Danko/Manuel' which is a tribute to The Band. If you generally like rock more try 'Cumberland Gap' off the new album. I would suggest watching live performances. Generally the 'Front Row Boston' or 'Austin City Limits' stuff is good. 'Decoration Day' is a song of his from when he was with the Drive By Truckers that is about the dynamic of a Hatfield v. McCoy rivalry but with more depth than you ever thought it could have.

Great advice! Decoration day is actually based on a true story! You can look it up. It's crazy how he can capture that so well! I thought it was fact till a college buddy of mine said he knew the story before he heard the song. Cool stuff

It's not a sad song and it's about them both. The point is he tried to write a love song about his wife Amanda Shires different from the cliches of the past. And the message of the song is I love you so much right now, we are married with a kid but we can't live forever, maybe only 40 more years. (which is a lifetime btw) He's saying I wish we had more time together, I wish we never would have to die, I wish we were vampires. Ya dig? It's a love song.

  • @peanutbuttercup1914

@@Allagi22 No, I think it's about how he _didn't_ wish they were vampires, because the beauty of their love is knowing that it can't go on forever. The song states "if we were vampires and death was a joke (...extra lines here...) I wouldn't feel the need to hold your hand. Maybe time running out is a gift. I'll work hard 'til the end of my shift. And give you every second I can find (...extra line here...)" He's basically saying that if they were immortal, he wouldn't feel the need to cherish their love. He's saying that their finite time together is a gift because it allows him to love and cherish her as much as he does. I think it's rather beautiful, actually.

All these years later… It’s saying more ‘the fact that time will take us away from each other makes our time together sweeter’. ‘If We Were Vampires’ would be worse than being who we are, right now. Because we’d take it for granted if we knew we’d never part.

Actually, I think it's kind of the opposite...I think he's saying it's the fact we aren't immortal and we have a finite time with our loved ones that can make love so strong and urgent...if we lived forever we couldn't feel the depth of that.

Actually, I'd say Trump and his lackeys are themselves in dire need of some competent care. I.e. it would probably be a jolly good idea to hook 'em up first with a steady midazolam drip which does last for the next ~3.5 years and then let's just take it from there.

Soon to be made public, Trevor Noah will be telling the story of him transitioning as a child. He was born a female & transitioned in his teens to a male. He is great representation of LGBTQ community.
