Feeling feminie shouldnt require you to mimic another ethnicity. I appreciate her honesty with the lady in the purple but saying black people cant grow hair or grow fast is ignorant. When i was in the army damn near everyone was telling me my hair grew fast because i went to the unit with a bob and months later i was able to put it in a bun

I feel like a lot of black women neglect their hair and not take care of it properly. I have also been guilty of this. People put on a weave and wig and go. So people don’t have good scalp health or know how to keep length retention. All the women in my family have long hair. Long thick hair. We need to be honest we do a lot to our hair. We do different styles and sometimes heath isn’t at the forefront. I feel like we have been conditioned to think oh our hair in a negative light . Everyone hair grows at similar rate it’s a fact no one’s hair grows faster than another. Length retention should be a focus if you want to see a difference. Shrinkage is a good sign of healthy hair. But people will believe what they want but that lady is projecting her insecurities and self hate. A lot of black Women don’t feel the same as her. I love to see the coils and curls shorts or long. People really need to check themselves and their own bias. I don’t understand why they post these videos about their self hate. They really need to seek love and talk to a therapist this is truly sad. It hurts to see women feel like this

@@slicksweet1that is untrue & false. Hair grows no matter what you do unless u have a medical condition or a deficiency... the “issue” is decades of misinformation about our hair which has lead to terrible length retention. We aren’t educated on how to properly take care of our hair types. Not every hair type can handle constant heat, perms, tension from ponytails etc. We need to baby our hair but the way we treat our hair causes our hair to break.. it’s not a problem with hair growth, it’s retention. Please listen to a licensed cosmetologist & educate yourself.

I come from a different perspective in a different frame of mine with this due to the fact that I don’t really think that they’re seeking therapy through the Internet. Anybody with the brain and that has been on the Internet within the last 20 years knows that this is definitely not a place where you should sensitivity down And expect that it’s going to be respected by the general public. I feel like they’re just giving space to speak to problems that most unambiguous black women do feel now I don’t like, however, the fact that they absolutely hate light skin or mixed women because it doesn’t make sense from that aspect. The ones who done all the torturing to them Are black men, but they absolutely refuse to name them as the culprit. I feel like the confessions are therapeutic to them, and for other women that look like them and it’s good for them to get it out about themselves, but I feel like they need to do that and then move on and express themselves in a way that make them appealing to different man because of a certain race of men absolutely hate you and tell you every day, my thing is, why won’t they just move on and there are plenty of other men that will date them if they look feminine and stop being angry all the time

Natural looking hair textures are sooooo much more flattering on unambiguous black women. It would be SUCH a relief and such a revolution for them/us to start embracing the enhanced versions of BLACK beauty. I feel like 4c hair is only “ugly” when it’s struggling to blend with an opposite hair texture. More Gemini when it’s longer, but not ugly when it’s short.

  • @ExoticalsUnited

    4 ай бұрын

Omg that’s such a good point . The “ugly” part isn’t the texture itself, it’s the mismatch with the bone straight textures or trying to get it to do something that it doesn’t do naturally. I’ve noticed that the straighter styles only seem to look good on 4c relaxed hair (which is still technically not “natural” I guess.) but you’re right. Their complaints usually come from trying to get their hair to do something that it doesn’t do on its own . for example with the shrinkage, isn’t shrinkage HEALTHY and something that it’s SUPPOSED to do? Like bounce back ? but I’ve noticed a lot of them don’t want to wear shrunken styles (I wouldn’t either tbh so not judging).

I absolutely agree. Everyone would win easier if they compete in their own lane. I genuinely find type 4 hair to be gorgeous and flattering on both UABW and ABW. But yes, shrinkage sucks! We should get weave extension textures to match and lengthen our own hair, not to make it struggle to fit something it’s not. I have 4c hair, and I’ve been saying this since middle school. Usually those kinds wigs are more expensive and harder to maintain than straight ones though, but the payoff may be worth it. When I see an UABW wearing fake type 1/2 hair, I don’t think “she looks feminine” I think “that’s obviously fake” and I wish they realized that.

It is sad. But, here in the US racism and colorism is profitable under capitalist patriarchy. As a light-skined abiguous BW, I can't begin to imagine being told from early childhood that your appearance, something you really don't have any control over as a child, is completely unacceptable. The only message you hear is that you are flat out ugly, even from your own family, the ones who should be supporting you. How can that not do some major damage to your sense of self. Frankly, I think it takes a special kind of strength to overcome a lifetime of social abuse like that. I'm not saying it is a good thing to pedalstalize "proximity to whitness" but I can understand how it can become a coping mechanism in this patriarchal, white supremacist society.

I didn’t take any of their thoughts personally either, however that line of thinking has been so embedded into the psyche of black people worldwide because anti-blackness and the delusion of white supremacy is a global phenomenon that didn’t arise with the imposition of American chattel slavery. They don’t have to impose any of their deviant biases against the “other” when they embed it into society so thoroughly that we do it to each other more severely than they could ever hope to. This is why self love and acceptance is a revolutionary act in and of itself. So even though it isn’t something I take personally, I know it still has an effect on how people treat and relate to the group that I exist within which is Black American Women.

I really hate to say this, but even if they did get the therapy that they needed and got rid of social media, it’s not going to change a thing. Because as heterosexual women, you want a man and women in general typically want the men of their own ethnicity, and when they’re telling you, it’s ugly and putting them out to the world, as well as other people not liking it because it’s so drastically different from what they’re used to, you’re not going to feel pretty. And that’s why it all comes back to this, not being a thing about an ambiguous black woman, disliking, light skin, or mixed women because of women doing harm to them but Because of their likeness to perceived less blackness, which is praised by black men. This is a male centered issue that they refuse to call out. They continue to hate ambiguous, black women and mixed women because of men but they will not say that.

I could never understand what it’s like being an uabw. I imagine that it’s extremely difficult to navigate this world. But I also believe that they are the solution to their own problem. They need to course correct when it comes to their image and representation. Asians did this and now everybody is finding them attractive and wanting to look closer to them in appearance. They used social media to market themselves as desirable and it worked. Uabw and uabm need to fix their image. Instead of talking about how they hate their skin and hair, how they think being with “Brad” is the solution, and blaming ABW and MLSW, they need to promote themselves better online or people will continue to treat them the way they treat themselves.

On this rare occasion, I hung out with my twin aunts (monoracial black women). They are medium brown skinned and look like Diana Ross...NO KIDDING! I also find it odd they see mls women as otherworldly creatures or something. It’s almost like they don’t even see us as an extension of them because we are all black. Maybe I need to stop looking at them like that, as an extension of me… It explains many of my encounters with them. It’s weird how you just never know how someone perceives you, how they wish they were you, and you’re just living life minding your business probably failing classes, can’t pay your bills, can barely afford gas… I mean idk… As long as you’re alive, you’re life will never be perfect, and that goes for everybody.

All women really need to figure out how to care for their hair HEALTH. Wash your hair, don’t put it off for 8 weeks cuz what the fuck. Learn how to cleanse, condition and nourish your hair and two simple hair styles. I think that should be the bare MINIMUM for hair health. If all women with textured hair could do this, they would be comfortable with seeing their natural selves. I’m not even saying don’t wear weave, wigs, braids but treat your natural hair with love and kindness. Treat it with kindness so that you have something on your scalp after the wigs, braids and ponytails. Also with Mayowa, she says that curly hair has never not been accepted. Like girl, were you not around in the 2000’s???? Everything was press hair and weaves! As a CHILD, i felt so isolated with my 3c hair. The media showed silky hair and all the black women around me had relaxers. Yes, my hair is accepted NOW, but curly hair was not in 20-25years ago 🙄 the curly hair community, WE pushed for our curly hair to be more accepted and normal.

Everyone is trying to get what they need but at the expense of others. Many of ABW make it seem like UABW's self- hatred and internalized anti-blackness come from nowhere. Let's just be honest about the fact that most ambigious, bi/multi-racial people (especially women) are preferred over UBW within the Black community and larger society as well. So, it makes sense that if you have the "preferred" aesthetic for a woman, you would naturally have a higher self-esteem. Ambiguous Black women are the standard of beauty in the Black community. Therefore, the environment is helping to build your self-esteem. If the tables were somehow turned and unambiguous Black women with Black features, tightly coiled/kinky hair and dark skin became the standard; ambiguous looking people would struggle with the same insecurities and self-esteem issues.

This saddens me. I didn’t know it was this bad. What is really upsetting is that Black women actually believe that straighter hair looks better on Afrocentric features. It is a delusional mindset, and Black women have been gaslit into believing that concept. Afro hair looks best on Afrocentric features. I did my dissertation on African American Body Image in 2007. Believe it or not the research showed at that time that Black women have the higher self-esteem in regard to body image in comparison to their White counterparts. The research did indicate that body size is not problematic with us; however, it did show that when taking facial features into account, we fall short in self-esteem. I can’t help but wonder if more access to the general public through social media is causing this. I don’t remember self-hate being so problematic growing up in the 70s and 80s. I hope these women stop airing their dirty laundry and seek therapy. It isn’t a good look.

I get that many women feel like they just prefer how straight hair looks. But I need us to understand preferences don’t just fall out of the sky. Could it be that black peoples entire history in this country has had them exist as the embodiment of everything bad and wrong. Our ancestors were kidnapped and forced to build a country whose benefit to them is negligent at best. We have been constantly told that every unique thing about us that makes us US is bad, negative and unattractive. Yet we still believe our desire for any hair texture other than our own is a preference. And the reason it’s not just your business is because we live in a society. And everyone’s thoughts, ideas and behaviors have an effect on everyone else. This is why it’s important to think about as our beloved ancestor Malcolm X asked us “Who was it that taught you to hate your hair texture, features and skin tone?”.

That was incredibly hard to watch and listen to. Yes I've heard alot on KZread but the fact that they are saying this on Tik Tok (a platform that my generation and even the next generation tends to be on) is further perpetuating the deep rooted hated that many UADSW have. Yes, I understand a few things-- especially how some BM make them feel b/c some of those brainless morons was "comfortable" enough to say certain things to make about women darker than I am, like I was supposed to be ok w/ it. No, alot WW (alot but not all) don't care what BM say about any BW b/c they feel a sense of security w/ what BM say but I don't (when my hair is long and straight, I look slightly more ambiguous and I'm aware but certain things are said to me too and then the guys wonder why I put distance between us), I can't w/ BMs who talk like that b/c if we get married and have children....if he's dark, more than likely are children will be dark and to see the type of self-loathing the young generation has about themselves, I can't deal with a husband who could possibly make my future dark skin daughter feel like she is less than do to how he feels about UADSW. Non-MGM/MLS women don't look at things like that but those of us with this phenotype who have been to the BWE spaces and hear them project their anger onto women like me, it's enough to make me cautious about who I partner up with.

The woman at around 1:00 talking bad about black hair, triggered meee. I was at the Dollar General one day last year, minding my own business, when this darker skinned older lady (around 60 ish), looked me dead in my face and told me she loved my hair (4a shoulder length) which was fine. I told her thank you, then I told her I loved her braids she had put in also. When I tell you she damn near screamed... "Naw, my hair aint pretty like yours so I never wear mine out. " now mind you, we are the ONLY black people in this busy store and I bet they heard her from all the way in the back. The people stopped what they were doing to stare at us and I was sad for this lady but also angry. I told her to NEVER talk down about her own hair and that I would give her my number and we could discuss what she could do better to grow her hair, since I have type 4 hair myself. It hurt me to me core to hear her talk like that!

2:10 when they had me with this stupid mindset of " Black hair doesn't grow"... I was upset because at the the time I thought I had 4C hair (it was just very Dry 4B). So, one day I stopped crying and bitching and moaning and I told myself that I am not cursed. My heritage doesn't exclude me from having long hair. Actually, it more than includes me. I got fed up and instead of reciting what they told me " Black hair will never ever grow." " Sorry babe, you just gotta deal with your1 inch afro lol." I told myself that " I have the long hair genes. It might be true for them but I AM THE EXCEPTION TO THE RULE." I only said it to make myself feel better because I always wanted a ponytail that moved every time I turned my head. That's all wanted. Now? My hair is midback length😙✌ Don't let them spread their cancerous mindset to you. They are only there with their hair because of cancerous self talk. " This nappy thing." Can be a " Cute poofy cloud." " This short mess." Can be a " This growing plant. You are gonna be long one day baddie." Guys it is LITTERALLY about perspective. It breaks my heart hearing this but, at the end of the day, it's a self created hell.

From what I've heard and seen, many of them were doing much better with their hair when they were relaxing it. I remember the 90's and bl¤ck women had longer hair with all of their edges intact, too. Seems like this new wig era is what destroyed their hair. They no longer wear their own hair out, so I don't think they're taking care of it the way they used to. Plus, that glue is ripping out their edges. Just my perspective.

I'm neurodivergent and a gym rat so it's much harder and I feel cucked some days by just having type 4 hair. I can't just go for a swim, then wash my hair, and eat dinner at home. No it's a whole 2+ hour process with my hair. So yeah it does suck.

May you please make a video about light skin exoticals with insecurities picking on brown skin exoticals please? It has happened to me way too often. Lighter MLS make comments and say things to me unprovoked. I’m MGM, dark caramel brown skin, almond eyes, tiny nose, little pouty lips, 3c hair, and I have a humble hourglass shape. I’m very feminine in all of my ways, and other MLS women who are lighter than me love to pick on my feminine ways as if it’s something to laugh at. They accuse me of changing my voice, wearing weave, and being fake when I eat salads. Some have commented on my “extended” vocabulary. It’s really unfortunate, because we can all be super cool if they weren’t so insecure. It’s almost as if My presence bothers them. What is that all about??

The emotional wounds caused by colorism can be lasting, and we must work together to heal these divisions.

@romcomgirly I think it links back to what @ExoticalsUnited touched on in another video...some mix girls are used to being the STANDARD LOOK so when you come along more browner (despite being MultiGenMix) they assume you are just another hater that's darker than them or believe you are BLACK GIRL ACTING MIXED. There is a stigma that you can't be black & introverted/ blackish & ultra feminine anybody brown or darker is supposed to be 100% extrovert all day every day or hypersexual (Jezebel on roids doing the most for male attention 😡😡😡). I have seen this rivalry more with HISPANICS incl those of carribean heritage but in reverse... you get picked on for being more sporty & less sexy, or even when you reveal you are vegetarian all of a sudden they question your roots ..WHAT YOU MEAN YOU DON'T EAT POLLO 🐔?? then it's a long list of criticism of how you won't get married if you can't cook roast 🐷 or 🐄 etc I'm glad more darker tone MGM women 🚺 are speaking their truth now but some females love to cling to stereotypes.....I hope you share your story so we can learn more of your culture & unlearn the bias we have about MIXED PEOPLE & "what they should look like or how they must behave" THIS IS WHY I LOVE DOJA CAT!
