it is baffling that so many conceptualized surrendering such an allegiance to another being rather than perserving its existence to uplift themselves.i have seen a few clips about the life and work of father divine and although i can't say with certainty that he was manipulating ALL of his followers, i believe that deception was indeed at the forefront of his ministry. even a blind man could comprehend that more than the mere love of humanity was at work here. ***kudos...great vid!***

When I was a hippy living in Powelton Village we used to eat at the Father Divine place on 36th street. A great meal for maybe 50 cents. This was back in 1968 69. They always had a place set for Father and Mother Divine. I guess he did some good but how does somebody convince so many to give him all their money. People are so needy for someone to give their lives meaning and this crazy idea of eternal life. What makes humans think they're so special that they need to live forever? What a great con artist he was.

Grate job on presentation, this goes to prove my theory about religion, mind you now religion not spiritualism there is a big difference,for the scholars of religious study's such as myself you would understand this,and the theory is that religion in the western world is designed to remove any and all ability to think for ones self or have the right to speak truth to power(ie ) leadership,most people really have no idea what the bible says or who God really is. they are herded like sheep.

@ArchAGabriel sorry gabriel there really is no difference between religion and spiritulism, its only a matter of semantics. by the way my great aunt was a follower of father divine, she was a brilliant woman. she hardly was one to not think for herself. but if one really thinks about it, if one really thought for one self he would recreate the universe in his own image utterly cutting himself off from the rest humanity.... such a one would be thought relatively insane.

As for research to understand.. others have commented on how "beautiful" it is and how they would like to visit. Imagine this opulence 70 years ago? Now imagine all of this was owned by an African-American. I do not know if people truly believed he was G-d. Do people really believe there is a difference between Democrats and Republicans? Do Christians believe Jesus is G-d? Do Muslims believe Allah is G-d? Do people believe the Earth is round? How ever one justifies greed and corruption, researching it will not solve the truth of greed and corruption. I think everyone just wanted a piece of the pie. If it meant sacrificing their children, giving all their wealth, and pretending a "pimp" is G-d...what difference did it make? Some will continue the lie of his "Divinity", while those of us who grew up there, know the horrible truth.

Christina, I’ve searched for 34 years trying to find my great aunt. My search has been difficult, if not impossible, because he had people change their names and from what I’ve been able to discover these were not “legal name changes” so there is no court record of the name changes. I became angry last night as I read all the feel good touchy touchy messages about him. Families were destroyed. I attempted to contact someone from the IPM a few years ago. The brother who responded said there were several elderly members who remembered my aunt and that she used to drive the children around. That was all the information he would give me and he strongly suggested I not contact him again. Sorry to hear about what happy to you and your mother. I corresponded with Tommy Garcia a few years ago and he told me his story. Teresa ENVISION!

What was her name? We drove around in limousines and I believe your Aunt was one of the ladies. I remember that she let me sit on her lap while she was driving. I think Tommy Garcia is trying to stack a claim. But, honestly, I don't remember him at all. His sister and I lived in the same house in Philly.
