Thanks a lot Simen, this roadmap is really helpful. Following are the 8 different levels: Level 1-3 (Beginner): Level 1: - Basics of guitar - string names, tuning, single notes, etc - how to read tabs and chord diagrams - how to hold the pick - basic major and minor open chords - basic strumming - simple one note riffs you like Level 2: - First position of the minor pentatonic scale - 12 bar blues - rhythm and improvisation - more colorful open chords (sus2, sus4, add9, etc) - more strumming patterns - play songs that match your skill level Level 3: - All 5 positions of the minor pentatonic scale - visualize the fretboard - introduction to barre chords - play songs that match your skill level Level 4-6 (Intermediate): Level 4: - pentatonic scales in all keys - understand and play the notes of the major scale - understand the theory behind chords - minor and major bar chords - 7th chords - technique fundamentals - right hand, left hand techniques, alternate picking, legato, etc - fingerpicking and rhythm playing - improvisation and soloing fundamentals - major and minor triads across the neck - basic arpeggios major and minor Level 5: - minor and major bar chords across the whole neck - caged system - music theory like circle of fifths - 7 modes of the major scale - economy picking - legato - 7th arpeggios across the neck Level 6: - 7th chords across the whole neck - Extended chords - 6ths, 9ths, add9, etc - the altered scale - two notes per string arpeggios - creative use of slides and bends Level 7-8 (Advanced): Level 7: - more fancy chords - chord progressions with non-diatonic theory - extended arpeggios - 9ths, etc - more advanced applications of the pentatonic scale - double stops - soloing and improvisation over chords Level 8: - 4th chords - drop 2 voicings - extended chords like 11ths, 13ths, etc - more advanced usage of arpeggios - melodic minor scale - hybrid picking

Thanks for watching! Right now I have quite a lot of videos (free on KZread) and on playwithaplan.com about the skills in level 4. Some of them can be useful for beginners to as an introduction to theory. I don't have anything for complete beginners yet (level 1-3) but it will be in the future! 😊

Damn, I just realised that my knowledge about the theory isn‘t as good as my playing. I should really look into the theory. Thank you, for this detailed list!👍🏼

The good news is that learning theory is way faster than learning guitar! But a decent understanding of theory is really useful. Good luck and happy you found it useful 😊
Great video! You may have mentioned it, but at what point do you think it is best to learn how to read sheet music? Coming from a different instrument that was always super important but maybe guitar is a bit more free :)

Thanks dear @finnprosser3179 ! I most situations I don't really think you haaave to learn it, but i can be useful for understanding music in general. But for people who plays jazz, classical guitar, do lots of gigs with other musicians or arrange music for others, then it makes sense to start learning it already in the beginner phase 😎
Bro claims I'm advanced and I still believe I don't know anything about playing the guitar 😂

Lol 😂
Okay, so it seems like I started learning some of these things WAY too early. I can't play a song, but here I am practicing all 5 pentatonic shapes, all 7 modes, and guitar techniques. All that has done is discourage me from playing.

Right, sounds like what has happened is exactly what I described with the stairs in the video. This is the order to learn stuff in I recommend because when you learn some of the 'easier' skills, it will become much easier to learn more advanced skills. Cause the more 'advanced' skills simply builds on the easier skills. Hope this video gave you some clarity 🙌

vibrato, you forgot vibrato 🙀

Oh no 😱 True that! Could potentially sneak it into technique fundamentals in level 4, but it could as well have its own for sure 🙌
You could know all this stuff and still sound not so great and u could be at level 5 but sound amazing. Theory and technique are only as little bit important. I would argue feel, creativity, and just knowing what a really good guitarist actually is. Is way more important than this stuff. I have met Amazing guitarists that don’t know theory and do not do technique based practice, and shitty guitarists that know all this stuff. This should be titled theory and technique. And also what u forget to mention at all is there r so many different technical schools of electric guitar. Like Tom Henson, Steve via, Ichika into, all have an extremely different technical skill set. Overall this is an extremely shortsighted video from just a above average player.

You are correct and I totally agree on many of your points! As mentioned, this is the way I would teach someone guitar to get great results. And I don't think this video is shortsighted, it's extremely focused. Learning guitar isn't binary. There are many nuances to guitar playing that aren't covered in this video.

what made me die laughing to this comment was that you butchered all three of the guitarists names that you mentioned: Tom Henson, Steve Via, and Ichika Into LMAO. Tim Henson, Steve Vai, Ichika Nito -- Put some respect on their name >:c idk if it was intentional, but it was hilarious lol!
