There is so much riding now on every point, or victory for clubs. But....the powers that be, prioritise the dollars first. Will we get more views, charge more for advertising, and increase our margins if Coventry were to play Citeh in a final or Man U? The decisions are based or influenced on how valuable clubs are to the brand. Let the refs on 100k a year take the hit. It's basically WWE.

It doesn't matter what team the VAR support, the rules are the problem, how many times this season have VAR overruled a refs bad call? Since Webb came in it seems like VAR is just there to back up the refs egos.

The three penalty claims aside, what bothers me the most is the complete lack of consistency when it comes to what is and isn’t a handball. What is the difference between Grealish, Young, and Wan Bissaka’s handballs this weekend and why was Wan Bissaka the only one penalized?

And Wan Bissaka was only one that shouldn't be given. Even Dermot Gallagher on Sky said in his view no penalty. Grealish penalty all day long and Young moved hand towards the ball which should be penalised. If no VAR we won't have so much debate as refs onfield is final and has to be accepted move on. I can't for the life me understand why VAR can't say to the ref check the screen and then a ref and still stick with onfield of he feels so. At least they followed the process .

The whole idea of “natural” and “unnatural” positions when it comes to handballs is completely ridiculous to begin with. People in general, not just footballers, run by propelling their arms forwards and backwards to help generate momentum.

It is ridiculous that VAR goes out of it's way to chalk off goals for offside due to toe-nails and microscopic margins but ignore blatant penalties, handballs, and valid goals.

Surely Man city owners paying premier league referees to work in the middle East is a conflict of interest and should be looked at! Even if it's not corrupt it doesn't look good. Especially considering Michael Olivers performances this season,

My stepfather was one of his linesmen in the European Cup Quarter-Final between Bayern Munich v Anderlecht in 1986. Keith was one of this country's most respected referees. He was a great communicator with the players. Refereed with common sense. A skill sadly missing nowadays. It's sad for me to see that despite all the technology the standard of refereeing has dropped. We need modern day versions of Keith Hackett, George Courtney and Pierluiga Collina

As much as I agree it’s a penalty, there are laws stating that there cannot be red card and penalty given for denial of goalscoring opportunity. If a penalty is given, then no red card. If it is a free kick outside the box,then it would be a red card

Coventry should be in the FA cup final but nobody seems to want to talk about that. Everyone steaming because Everton have won a few 50/50 decisions. Why would Luton fans want Everton to win they would want a draw, so it doesn't even make sense.

It’s every weekend now, every game week. It’s draining. The consistency is non existent. No hand ball from young yet a few hrs later a handball by Bissaka in the FA Cup game. No hand ball from Grealish 24 hrs prior, one of the most obvious and easiest handball decisions you could wish to have as a referee and it’s not given.

As a liverpool fan it was frustrating seeing people in the media saying we were acting like spoiled children . It’s quite vindicating to see other teams and fans realize how incompetent the pgmol really are.

In 2008 Attwell was the referee for Watford vs Reading where he awarded Reading a goal for a shot that went wide of the post.

Just save money on VAR and switch it off for games reffed by good old ‘Tayls and Ollie’ then

VAR should be a set panel that are not ex refs, they should jsut be analysts that every week make the same decision everytime, and if they are not ex refs they wont be biased to protect refs when they make a questionable call

Maybe one week we'll get a round of matches where there are no absolute howlers from the referees either on the field or in the VAR hub, I honestly think that since the introduction of VAR the standard of refereeing is even worse.

Why does the VAR doesn't automatically send the clip to the pitch side monitor... let the ref see his mistake right there. Quick 30 seconds check, while everybody else is looking at you taking the decision.

It might not be a popular opinion but I disagree with you here. I understand what you're saying but if I was in that position I would just do my job as professionally as possible. I could maybe understand if you were refereeing your son's match on a Sunday at your local park but we are talking about the Premier League. It's not easy to become a Premier League referee. A person is more likely to become a professional footballer due to the work and dedication it takes to become a premier league referee, that's how unlikely it is. And imagine if you're lucky enough to actually become a Premier League referee, you would willingly risk throwing your career down the drain over something as silly as the scenarios mentioned in the video? It just seems incomprehensible to me.

As soon as you allow that much money into a sport corruption will never be far away. I have been saying all season something very dodgy is going on with referees in our league. I know people seem to think that questioning a referees integrity is an unthinkable action but I really don't think it will be long before the first one is rumbled then others after.

This likely what happened: forest complained about var and Webb told Attwell and he retaliated against forest. That was pure retaliation. “How dare you complain about me? I will deal with you.”

Play the tape in regard to the penalties, that's the issue that needs to be cleared up. Don't hide behind Forests comments - deal with the issue. Play the tapes and clear the air, failure to do so puts the whole premier league and PGMOL into a situation where you have to doubt their honesty. A joke of a situation for the so-called premier soccer league in the world.

A solicitor/lawyer cannot represent a client if there is a perceived or real conflict of interest. Keith Hackett is spot on that you need a similar system in appointing officials to games. The huge question after this interview is to ask why the PGMOL has abandoned the system that Keith had implemented when he was the refs' boss.

Why cant you insinuate the official is bias? Why not? What if he is are they really so holy that there is no chance there dodgy?

@Leinsterken Stevie Nicol and Craig Burley were talking absolute nonsense on the ESPN FC show. They act like all these refs are holier than thou and don't have biases. I remember that Juventus at Real Madrid semifinal 2nd leg when Juve came back from 3 goals down in the first leg to equalize the aggregate. I cant recall the ref from Englands name but he gave Real a dodgy pk in extra time. Everyone knew he supported Madrid.

Google Nottingham Forest v Anderlecht UEFA Cup - Anderlecht bribed the ref and denied another European trophy for Forest in the Cloughie era!

Ask yourself after the debacle with liverpool spurs when pundits were calling for replays and questioning wether we need VAR and going to town on officials when 24 hours later these same people did a complete 180 and since have been towing the parry line.

It is outrageous and rather than pundits sucking up to the FA but criticising forests tweet, it’s about time we saw pundits analysing our situation and informing the public about the extremely bad and wrong decisions we suffered all season long - leading to us being in this position. Thats why NFFC are so angry and it needs to be acknowledged… it’s not just this game.

The PGMOL is corrupt and rotten to the core. It should be disbanded and replaced. VAR should be a truly independent service comprised of people that actually played the game professionally or scrapped too. All conversations from and to VAR should be broadcast in the stadium and if on TV, on there too.

Many should not Referee certain matches big mistakes are being made that cost clubs getting into Europe or staying up. VAR and referees need investigating. Also what is hand ball and what isn't because Man UTD have an argument.

I couldn't agree more Mr Hackett....... its a pity his sensible opinions and suggestions aren't in place in our game now. He was also correct in his assessment that its about education education education......

VAR needs to be scrapped. It's not just the truly appalling decisions we see every week it's the slowing down of a game that's supposed to flow. I've been watching some Championship games recently and they are so much more enjoyable to watch simply because there is no VAR. No one has the guts to hold their hand and say "Sorry, we got this completely wrong". Goal line camera's is all we needed or wanted to check that the ball was over the line, the rest is utter tosh.

They should refer to The AFCON they used it very well but yet PL can’t use it having had it for a while now. I think a hint of corruption is coming through now it’s beyond minor mistakes but looks deliberate every time.

Finally somebody speaking sense

Before VAR; Refs don't have any replays, they have to make a quick decision as the game goes on. They can't see everything. VAR introduced; We'll wait for the ref to make a mistake. We'll ignore it if he doesn't call for a check. VAR shouldn't wait for a clear and obvious error. If they (VAR) see a foul then they should bring it to the refs attention. End of.

Here's an idea... instead of the referee having to constantly go back and forth between a monitor to see the incidents (which takes time and is why they don't review everything), why doesn't the referee have a phone or tablet in his pocket this is streaming the same video that is on the pitch-side monitor. That way we can clearly see what the referees seeing because it has been broadcast. And it means the referee doesn't need to be forced with having to see the monitor after every tackle, you can just look at the tablet make a decision and remove on within seconds. I've been banging on about this for months and maybe years now VAR doesn't need to be a massive committee of people and technology it literally just needs to be the Replays that we've been having on TV for years in the eyes of the referee who is officiating on the pitch.

My question is. WHY is Stuart atwill a referee full stop.

I am a Forest fan and I am sick of the Refs and VAR turning down appeals that are definite penalties, it just shows their incompetence to do their job properly. VAR was introduced to help refs yet some just to not use it. It is shocking and disrespectful to the clubs that lose out form the refs actions, Keith Hackett is right something needs to be done about it.

AI is needed in football, no need for referees, lines men and definitely no need for VAR assistants. Solves all the biases out of the game. Guarantee the big 6 will be completely different every year.
