I've used my EV-50s on a countless amount of wedding gigs over the years. They always did the job and people loved the sound. After several years of doing that, I actually switched back to conventional speakers with an 18" sub. It's just a personal decision for me. It's just something about that powered 18" sub that I personally like to hear when I'm DJing.

Hi Aaron, Great video, as always! I love my Evolve 50's. I've been using them a number of years now and they are awesome! There are a few venues in Indy where I think that they may struggle a bit to fill the venue with full sound, and for that reason, I do plan on purchasing some more conventional speakers and a sub, but I think that they are fine for 90% or more of my events and have a great sound. They are also really good for ceremonies and cocktail hours. So they are a very flexible speaker and they really can be put up and torn down very fast!

Now, I have a full set up and can use the 30s as rear fill and 50s near the dancefloor for much larger events 250-300+. This is my main rig and I wont go back to a traditional PA setup for weddings. The people that are complaining about the Evolves not being loud enough are bringing the wrong tool for the wrong job. Have realistic expectations about what the equipment is intended for... This isnt meant to replace a night club or music festival system. Dont blame the tool, blame your application. I should also mention how many wedding planners and clients have complimented the setup because the Evolves look so aesthetically pleasing. People inquire or I get referrals from wedding planners just off of presentation alone.

  • @DJLEOdamadprofessor

Column arrays by them selves are almost never enough for dancing past 8pm. However I do believe you should treat most column speakers like the comparable size point source speaker! Meaning; you probably wouldn’t show up to a party with just 2 12 tops? no, you’d add a subwoofer and I treat column arrays that way. Now the problem with most of them is they have no subwoofer out or crossover. For most columns adding a 15 inch subwoofer will change how the sound in a big way. Also alittle science the longer the speaker array the lower the crossover at which point sound dissipates more slowly at 3db so keep that in mind.

If you have them, keep them they are great. If you don’t have them and are considering going to columns, the ev50 are old and there are now much better options. The JBL PRX One has a much cleaner flatter response, more input, louder DB, more bases and highs. And they are cheaper. I had ev50’s and sold them the day I listened to the PRX One at my local GC. I never looked back, saved some serious money and now use the PRX’s for 95% of my weddings. And if I need more bases I just bring one Sub2. Honestly doing a review on the ev50’s in 2022 is like doing a review on the iPhone X, or doing a review on the ape labs 1.0. I won't tell your secret, but yeah I think these and the 30m and the J8 and J12 and Bose 32's are all good for small to medium events. I'm still going with the Bose 32 for those events until I listen to the new rcf tt 515a with the tt 808as, which is 85 percent for me. The other 15 percent i will use my QSC kw 181 subs and my K12 or k10 tops. keep em dancing

@@mghattendorf Everybody's ears are different. I have the QSC K8.2 and have never heard harshness at loud volume. Then again I never play them anywhere near their max 127dB. Also love my EV. Actually both EV and QSC have a similar sound signature, clean highs/missing mids.
