Evolutionary Psychology: Redpill, Manosphere Nonsense

Psychology is pseudoscience, behaviors, unlike limbs, are spectra and highly idiosyncratic. Replication crisis proves that behaviors are so mutable that they are nonrecurrent (on the fly). Confusing behaviors and routines.
Adaptation applies to populations, not to individuals (thus sociobiology and behavioral ecology are more scientific). It is totally automatic. It cannot take into account cognitions, emotions, beliefs, values, and mental health disorders (such as psychosis).
Each psychological process and behavior involve thousands of co-expressed genes.
Focus on reproduction and reproductive success is utterly delusional and counterfactual. Example: rape is a misogynistic power trip, not about reproduction or even sex.
Ignores the role of intangibles such as meaning, truth, security, or happiness.
Domain (task) specific (modules) or domain general?
Computational models are behaviorist (input-processing-output). Dual Inheritance Theory DIT (Baldwin effect): genes+culture.
Determinism: stone age determined who we are (ignoring neuroplasticity).
We know very little about the environment in the past.
The conundrum of altruism: inclusive fitness applies only to relatives and reciprocity theories are counterfactual.
Exaptations, spandrels (byproducts), random variability are not adaptations but probably contribute more to survival.
Adaptations are complex, species universal, adaptively functional. Obligate (environment-invariant) or facultative. Most psychological adaptations are facultative.
Cultural universals are few and often confused with skills acquisition or conditioning (eg, via socialization and acculturation, social learning and modeling). Promiscuity as an example.
Environment of evolutionary adaptedness (recurrent selection pressures and boundary conditions) is retrodictive, teleological, and tautological.
Concept of mismatch (between erstwhile adaptations and changing environments).
Mismatch implies any number of possible original environments and explanations for the development of a trait.
Even hunter-gatherers lived in settlements, with rudimentary agriculture, and art.
Supernormal stimulus: impulse control.
Evo-devo (Evolutionary-Developmental Psychology): confusing biology with psychology (smiling, crying, facial expressions). This is an example of the pan-adaptationist fallacy.
Function to form (problem to solution): uncertain paternity led to male romantic jealousy (but exists also in childless couples, reaction to catastrophized loss and the intimacy part of the sex).
Form to function (reverse engineering solution to problem): morning sickness to avoid ingestion of toxins (nonsense: it is bad even when not pregnant, it stop in the second trimester, is biological).

The idea that rape was about reproduction always puzzled me. Children, the elderly and even men are often victims. Many rapists murder their victims. Even at that basic level it should be obvious how idiotic the notion is.

The notion that rape is always about power and never about reproduction is questionable, as there's DNA evidence in the Icelandic population from Irish and Scottish women that suggests otherwise. These women were enslaved by the Vikings over 1000 years ago and transported there.

Not true, vast majority of rape victims are women age 20 to 30. It is almost entirely about sex. Although not completely.

@@emboy1232If enslaving someone isn't about entitlement, power and control then I don't know what is. To enslave someone is the ultimate control and power you can have over someone. Reproduction is a byproduct but not the primary goal in such circumstances.

A lot of children are raped. Pedophilia exists, which alone disregards evolutionary psychology. Shid is not that simple. People SA because of as lack of control, power and entitlement@@grahambuckingham7295

This video has taught me more about life and reality than a three year counselling course. That said, it's no comparison, because it's embarrassing how little training there is on a 3 year, UK based, counselling course. For example, how long did I spend learning Adlerian Psychology? 15 minutes. Jung? Half a day. And they let people go one on one with struggling humans as somehow "qualified." And how much time learning about how the brain works, or the philosophy behind counselling skills? ZERO

I dropped out of BSc Psych in Scotland. In two and a half years I only learned a little bit about cognitive psychology, which was valuable, but other than that, the course was all about how science works in general and how research is conducted. Valuable too, no doubt. I can't remember the replication crisis being mentioned either. In my case, Adler, James or Jung were literally never mentioned. Freud was mentioned only a couple of times in coursework, and not in exactly respectful terms. I love psychology, but trying too hard to be in the STEM club is holding the entire field back. At this point two years of reading classical literature teaches you more about the human condition than two years of psych.

And at the same time it touches on the nature - nurture debate which is also a fundamental part of what EvoPsych rests a bit on.

Survival of genes is not the same as survival of the individual, and those are sometimes in conflict. I have not heard any significant denial that the environment interacts with behaviour or the genetic base.

I’ve been bawling my eyes out for months because of the manosphere stuff. I can’t get away from it no matter what I do. It’s put me into a really bad headspace and suicidal at times. It’s completely made me withdrawal from men completely and I’m terrified that no matter what I do, I’m worthless now that I’m past 25 and that they will always cheat. It feels like anything that I naturally am is somehow wrong in the worlds eyes and I’m so extremely confused and in the dark. Any other women feel the same way…? :(

You’re not alone those manosphere men are monsters. And it does seem like they all eventually cheat, so idk how to feel about that. Some days I accept the fact, and other days I feel hopeless. As far as the age thing though, a major part of why a lot of men prefer younger women is because we’re easier to control. So they just see us as easier prey with less boundaries essentially. There are a lot of beautiful older women (30s 40s even 50s) that still date mature high quality men who don’t want to be with little girls. With all that being said though I’m definitely taking a dating hiatus and decentering men and focusing on making my life more fulfilling outside of men. The best thing we can do at this point is learn their tricks and manipulation tactics so we don’t become victims. I hope you feel better you’re not alone ❤

(Also most manosphere men are secretly insecure incels who didn’t get enough attention all their life. Like why do you have to use psychological warfare to convince women to love you? Because they know that they are secretly unlovable as they are)

@@user-hn1yu8nd5i Funnily enough, there are many men in a similar position. The manosphere, despite what you may think, is not kind to men. Imagine being told every day that you have a 1-in-5 chance of getting a girlfriend, that women only seek money and status, that you are ultimately disposable, etc. Then you turn around and hear that even if you do get a relationship, it'll last all of 4 months if you're not a perfect ten, and when it falls apart you stand a good chance of being falsely accused of abuse, losing most of your money, etc. Then, you turn around again, and see women saying that you're too masculine, you're not masculine enough, giving you "dating advice" and then calling men who follow it creeps, and pulling the "bad thing happening to men, women most affected." Eventually you begin to think that love is not a real part of the human condition, just a hormonal cocktail designed to ensure the species' continuation, and that that is the only purpose you were made for. It destroys you.

@@RoboThot3000well I'm a guy and I hate manisoehre dudes, apparently I'm a worthless POS to women cause I'm not 6 ft, I shouldn't love a woman cause she's a little older than 25 (and btw, I like younger women too, but I've sene on the internet that if the woman is jot your same age down to the milisecond you're a pedo or a freak that likes grannies), she's gonna leave me cause there's morw alpha guys with mor emoney etc, it's a crapshoot with that stuff. Now unfortunately, some idnividuals really do act like animals and have no self control, men sometimes are sex pests who cant get satisfied, women will gold dig, etc, but I mean, I'd like to believe there's not only that...

Ive noticed the Sigma Male categorization follows similar lines to beautiful-at-any-size denomination amongst women. Both of these are men and women's mutual attempt to be inwardly self-defined rather than being judged and categorized through of the lense of mate selection by the opposite sex. Women seek to escape the 1 to 10 looks scale, and Men seek to escape the Beta/Alpha binary. Alot of what I see in manosphere/red pill spaces over the years has now become cosmopolitan and very superficial.

Evolutionary psychology is just us humans trying to make sense of what came before based on what we are now. I am sure generations before us had the same conundrum. We will never be able to know for sure what our ancestor really did and thinked, dreamed or phantasised about. Sam is trying to make us think a little bit for ourselves and not to ignore the so called "self". This self is genetic and neurological at the same time. Reducing this self to a belief of noble monkey that evolved is a little offputting. Considering its biology and not so called "free will" is a mistake (free will meaning neurology). It won't help or explain the current generation's problems or behaviours. It's arrogant for us to assume the motivations and the environemnt of our ancestors. On a more positive note... I wold say its more practical to assume both evolution and current environment genetics to play a role on what we are today. Consider evolution as the basis and nothing more. The rest is our environment and genes expressing (positivley or negatively or just randomly). More pragmatically expressed: you are what came before you. Be human. Use the tools that you have at your disposal.
