We know a great deal about the evolution on Earth (and we hope that Evolution: New World helped you with that too). It's an exciting story of various creatures acquiring defensive & offensive traits to adapt to the ever-changing environment. What we don’t know is if there might be other worlds where completely different creatures dwell. Will the same laws of evolution apply there too? It's time to find out!
Evolution: Another World is a card game in a beloved Evolution: the Origin of Species series. In the game, you create animals and give them traits, so they survive and thrive in the chaotic world of wondrous creatures. The goal of the game is to give your creatures enough energy to transmute and transcend their state of existence. The first player to transmute three creatures wins the game.
This is a fast-paced, easy-to-learn game with a solo mode included in the core game. Mechanically, it is inspired by Evolution: New World, but trades some complexity for more dynamic and light gameplay.
This game is Family-friendly because animals can’t die or be eaten by predators. Competition is peaceful, but you can attack other players' creatures to gain energy. This game has a straightforward win condition: you don't need to count VP at the end of the game. Transmute 3 of your creatures and you win the game!

5.0 - My absolutely favorite games. You can pry them out of my cold dead hands.
4.5 - Love this game! At the same time missing something that would make it a 5. Could be hard to table, lacking variability, a little light, etc.
4.0 - Really great game, almost always keeping, although has meaningful complaints as to what takes away from the experience.
3.5 - Really enjoyed, don't love it, may lose out to better games but the idea of never playing again is a bit sad.
3.0 - A good game, would play and suggest with the right people, if I never played it again wouldn't lose any sleep.
2.5 - A game I'd play again , but will never suggest it myself
2.0 - A game I don't want to play again
1.5 - A game I can't find any reason to recommend
1.0 - A game that is just bad.

6:50 A minor mistake. The creature should fall asleep immediately after using the Fire-breathing (or any other attacking) trait, not in the next turn. 14:00 Minor clarification Fire-breathing is fully countered by Fireproof

Evolution: New World was CrowD’s previous game. Evolution: The Beginning was Northstar’s more entry level version of their Evolution game. I think you were mixing those names. New World might be my favorite in the series. I feel like it’s a little more streamlined than the Northstar version. Much better art and presentation, too. Another World seems like a simpler version of New World. CrowD’s equivalent of Northstar’s Evolution: The Beginning.

Is it that much more simple though? I don't know Northstar Evolution New Beginning very well, but Another World seems like it just removes a type of food and cover? Even then, it still distinguishes energy from the 'source' vs 'supply' which are basically like the corresponding food types in New World? These games are basically collection and solo games for me, which makes New World edge out the others right now. However, I've backed Oceans solo on KS, so I'm really looking forward to it!

Just received. I am unsure if it was prototype rules or an oversight, but the Fire-Breathing "problem" is not as much of an issue in the retail product. About 5 cards make it harder for Fire-Breathing to be oppressive as some defensive traits trigger 'WHEN attacked', and another outright is called Fireproof. CrowD also claims from their own KS and Website that they are not in the same line as Northstar Game's products, so this is closer to an Apples-to-Oranges discussion. Sadly, the Special Edition offers so much more than the retail (the one reviewed), it hurts the strengths of this game by showing just how much more creative interactions could be available for boardgame hobbyists.

Another great video Alex, I love your honest thoughts. Have you played the solo mode? What did you think of it?

Thanks for the video! The Evolution series games are collection/solo games for me. While I love both nature and scifi/scifantasy, for some reason I don't like them combined. Oceans was enough of a mashup of themes that I didn't back it... but did end up getting it retail and backed the solo KS campaign. Another World will be a pass for me, but glad it exists to entice people into the Evolution series who aren't into nature theme games.

This series is on my want to play list. I keep hearing that Oceans is the best version. It will be interesting to hear how this version compares

I feel this game doesn’t run very fluid. The pace you replentish hands is too slow you need to wait till everything is asleep and similarly the single location takes too long to refresh. And when you hand runs low the choices get more and more limited. So towards end of a round the game can drag without much decisions but animals not fully asleep. I so wanted to like this game but I think it is a pass for me
