Thanks for this video! Helped to know the difference between the two turbos, and thanks for the video on the different recirculating valves. Did not know the previous owner of my Evo 8 threw on a valve from an Evo 9.

If u are trying to distinguish between an Evo 8.5 & 9 Td05, but cant take the turbo out, and the alphanumerics are hard to read or worn off, i find that the best way to tell the Compressor Housing apart is the shape of the Block section that the Size is stamped on. On the Evo 9 the section is a perfect square. On the Evo 8.5 the section has slightly Rounded/Cut Corners, and is arched at the bottom and kinda bends around the Inlet

Very useful video. I've just discover that my old turbo was an hybrid between evo 8 (compressor side) and evo 9 (or 8 mr) for the hot side. In any case, the evo 9 turbo represent the best choice in term of maximum air flow (and than power) without any loss in term of spool.

@Boosted Films ive got a question, 1) what bhp @ standard do the evos comes from factory? 2) what bhp can each of them 3 turbos peak out at with bolt 3" exhuast? 3) what psi max can u peak it at? 4) finally what rpm do all 3 spool full boost at?

Any difference in the size or shape of the exhaust turbine between the three or is it simply just a larger housing?

Something I knowticed between the 9.8 & 10.5 is on the 9.8 on the hot side the impeller housing has larger port to the exhaust exposing more impeller than the 10.5.. Any idea why ?

It should be interchangeable.

Can't believe the new civic type R only has a small single scroll TD04 turbo , I don't think it is capable of making 340whp power, should of made it at least a 16g turbo with Direct Injection technology would have been a good power plant.

Well good video most is correct....but not all. My 2005 evo 8 turbo is a 9.8T and only 1 single wast gate valve gate not 2. Could be that the 9.8T from the video is a evo 7???

All 2005's in the USA came with a 10.5T cold side. A prior owner probably swapped on a 9.8T.

So the 2005 Evo 8 Hotside is the same exact Hotside as on the Evo 9? I would like to confirm this so that while my Evo IX turbo is installed, I can have the 10.5 hotside from my 2005 Evo 8 turbo cleaned up and cerakoted so that when I rebuild my Evo IX turbo I can swap housings. To save down time ya dig!?

@@BoostedFilms awesome... I just started taking it apart. I bought a 20G Comp cover & 7+7 Wheel with a drop in 9 blade turbine wheel. I'm still waiting on the rebuild kit, so in the meantime I'm going to take the 10.5 from my 05 turbo and have that one cleaned up. I plan on using this setup until I build my bottom end next spring.

Between the 2 evo 8 turbos, are there any performance differences?

DSM? Not worth it. Basically will not work. Totally different.

They actually made a 10.5 hotside with the dual flapper similar to your 9.8 hotside in this video. Just an fyi.

I think the evo 9 turbo oil line and wastegate actuator would work for you. But i'm not 100% sure you are JDM.

If your evo 5 actuator is rusted out, put an evo 8 actuator on it. Direct bolt on and it comes with the revised shield on the rod.

Thinking if buying and evo can anybody tell me the differences between the 2005 evo 8 gsr and the 2006 evo 9 gsr?

the evo 8.5 does not exist. there is the evo 8 that does not have mivec, and the evo 8 mr, the only one is the evo 6.5 tommy makine edition year 2000

You may have misunderstood. I’m not saying there is a “evo 8.5” car. Here in the USA, evo 8’s were 03-05 model years and evo9’s were 06 model year. I simply referred to the 10.5t evo 8 turbo (2005 model year) as the “evo 8.5 turbo” to differentiate it from the 9.8t evo8 turbo and the 10.5 evo 9 turbo.
