    Solid video. You have inspired me to continue to pursue my passion of wanting to learn more about tuning. I've been reading up on Merlins guide to tuning Evo X. It's a lot of information but I'm having fun learning. I plan on tuning my own Evo X but I have a lot more to read/understand. Keep up the awesome videos!

    I bought a honda tuning kit about 6 months ago and couldnt be happier. Already have a few customers. It's an awesome thing and the sooner you decide to take the plunge the better. I wish i would have started 10 years ago when I wanted to.

    pdgeman that's awesome man! Figured that's the only way to learn is to read the info and just jump right in.

    It's crazy how most people don't take their cars to Evan for first time tuning. They take cars with crappy tunes from other places so he can do it right

    I'd love to learn how to tune with a proper Ecu and Dyno. The old safc and wideband just isn't doing it for me.. it works but there is no getting. Good idle

    I can help but wonder how these ECU's need "a lot of work" to use features obd1 civic ecus do with just a custom eeprom.

    Chip burning is 80's tech, if you're going to use an old factory Honda ECU at least put a S300 board in it, still wont be anywhere close to a real stand alone. Don't get me wrong though, S300 is awesome considering how much it opens up the stock ECU but you're still limited by 20 year old hardware.

    What do you mean by "added more ignition timing"

  • @ClumsyCars

    @ClumsyCars

    advancing the timing so that it occurs earlier in the crank rotation for higher combustion chamber pressures.

    pdgeman so the ignition happens closer to TDC? Is this an adjustment of degrees to BTDC? Sorry, noob just trying to learn.

  • @ClumsyCars

    if the base timing was set at 0 zero, for example, retarding timing timing would have ignition happen after top dead center and advancing the timing would have ignition happen before top dead center.

    pdgeman got it, thanks. So "added ignition timing" means advancing the timing, correct?

    you want the ignition to happen x amount of degrees before TDC because the fuel air mixture doesnt burn immediately, it takes time for the flame front to get through all the air/fuel mix in the combustion chamber, this is so that the maximum combustion pressure from the air/fuel mix burning occurs at the same time as the piston is at TDC.
