Evil Ted Live: Making Mechanical Bat Wings

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Making mechanical Bat wings. Sorry the first half of this video the audio is too low. I had problems durring the live stream.
I get a lot of messages on how to make moving wings, so once I saw these for sale at Party City I had to get them to see how they work.
Very simple and easy to mod into any kind of fantasy wings you like.

I've seen other youtubers make wings from scratch. I'd rather do like you did and start with a per-built back pack.

Well done Evil Ted, I am planning on making a set of dragon wings for Halloween. I will be using a linear actuator for mine tho as they are going to be larger to fit my body. Your video looks much more easier to follow.

I had a set similar to these, mine had a 6 foot wing span & were about a 1.5 feet from edge to tail. They worked great but i have to rebuild them, the cord anchor point at the pivot came loose then the frame itself broke so its in serious need of tlc. Was kinda hopinh to see truely autmated wings instead of the pull cord, maybe using small servos linked to a button actuator

I'm a big fan of low tech, when it comes to costume making. There are videos out there on wings that move with servos, check them out.

@@EvilTedSmith I usually am as well, however the gauntlets for that costume (the one in my profile pic) make using the rings very difficult, necessitating the need for motorised wings.

Great video Ted. As always. Quick question, do you just thinking down regular acrylics with alcohol for airbrush paints or do you use airbrush specific paints? Airbrush paints are not as accessible or economical in India, so was wondering if there was a cheaper alternative or technique that you might know. Thanks in advance. ✌️

  • @EvilTedSmith

Yes, I have thin down acrylic paint with water to spay them with an airbrush. Alcohol mixed with acrylics turn in to clumps. I understand completely. I had no money to get supplys when I started.

What is that joint / connection type called? I'd like to make gelfling wings that 'pop out' from underneath a cloak. These look like the perfect mechanics. Not sure how to find parts!

using an exacto blade is way better for cutting faux fur! draw your pattern or whatever on the back and cut from the back, you wont cut nearly as much hair off as with scissors
