I'm the Evil Ted who makes props and costumes. I’ve worked on Star Trek Into Darkness, Walking Dead, Fifth Element and Guyver, among lots of others. I've made pretty much everything out of every material, but foam is my favorite.
I'm here to share my skills and shortcuts, and help you learn how to make foam costumes and props, too.

Those costumes are excellent! Good enough to be in films.
I think so too! So many talated make up artist.
Helmet turned out great
Yes! Thank you!
Some great cosplays there!
Crazy good.

This is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you so much!
Glad it was helpful!

I am manufacturer Eva foam LARP product
Very good tutorial with excellent results, although I'm admittedly very confused about the thicknesses of foam for building the grenade launcher. When you say 1" foam with half inch foam stacked onto it, that translates to 38.1mm, and that's kind of an odd number (assuming I did that right). What foam thickness(es) should I be getting to replicate that effect as close as to what you did?
what material is this made from?
Amazing work ❤❤❤
Thank you.
Guyver was such a kool movie.
What if I want the whole shoe covered aka. No gap?.
So I gotta ask, why use these large foam mats instead of stuff like EVA Foam sheets or alternative types of foam? Is there a specific reason? I am just wondering for a project I am working on
Dude seeing this and knowing that my Guyver Unit has fingers that touch the ring makes me such more excited because I know now that it's more accurate than most units out there. I really need to make another one and use the paint guide you sent me.
thank you for this great video. How did you end up attaching the 3 inch dome to the wood dowel?
This is so cool I wish i had the time to make it keep up the good work ❤
Foam claws or cosplayflexx claws are pretty easy. Made a bunch years ago for my Nocturne cosplay, you could use a shield-shaped pattern for the elongated part. Thinner foam will even roll itself up.
How do you attach the shoulder pads to your shoulder like what’s the strapping you use
Woot
any advice if your pattern turns out too small or doesnt fit flush? First timer here!
Yes. When maiking the pattern off of the Shoe. Depending on what thickness of the foam your using. If you going to use 1/2 foam make the pattern a quater inch bigger to compensate for the thickness of the foam.

Costumes look amazing and were cool seeing you posing in front of the cosplay displays we made. ❤
Thank you so much!! You did a great job on the display. I wish more Cons would do that.
@EvilTedSmith Thanks, We wish they would as well, sure could use the work.
You do great work. Just subscribed to your channel.
can i have it plz plz
Sure! You can get it right here. eviltedsmith.com/shop/basic-dome-patterns/
I'm looking into picking up some EVA foam for a project similar to this, but I'm not sure how thick the foam I get should be. What thickness are you using? 2mm or 4mm?
When making foam armor. I like using 8 to 10mm.
Thank you so much! My 12 year old has to design a Roman helmet with a strict limit of only $10 for a school project. All other online instructions and patterns i’ve seen want at least $8 which would blow the budget.
What size is the dome?
I have the link for it just below the video.
That’s awesome!!!! Love that Series!!!
Are there templates available so we can trace and cut these out in foam?
Yes! eviltedsmith.com/shop/pulse-rifle/
Gives me a Freddy Kruger vibe to it or Friday the 13th
Thank you so much for this video!! Your instructions are so clear and easy to follow. I wanted to make a faux Tiffany lamp shade out of a wire hanging flower basket and stained glass patterned window cling film and was having a really hard time figuring it out. I don’t think I could have pulled it off without your video.
Wonderful! That is my mission. To show others you can do it your self. All I asked is to tell like minded friends about me!
Nice work Man
Thank you.
Question, can these be used for food ..mainly chocolate ...does anyone know thank you if someone can let me know
Yes they are food safe.
Awesome work, Evil Ted!
Thank you!
Are you going to be making the Smartgun in the future?
Ha ha I dout it!
What is the base helmet?
I made the pattern off of a M1 army helmet.

@@EvilTedSmith outer steel pot or inner liner?
Ok Alien weekend ❤ how come this isn’t on my calendar. I mist Chicago Deep Dish pizza day for years before I had to add it. Iron out the template so I can start finally developing my cosplay Marine named Burger.
I’ll try to have a slice for you while I’m there!
Years ago a fellow cosplayer weapons and costume maker passed away due to exposure too much of this stuff, RIP Weapons Master 😢....
Where do you get that visor?
Found it in the comments thx !
Was watching your amazing tutorials to make an inquisitor helmet, and when you showed yours my jaw dropped, UNEXPECTED AND AWESOME
Thank you. You'll get better the more you build.
Thank you, Ted!
Thank you for checking it out. Sorry it so dark. We learned a lot on this one. So the next one will be better.
Anyone know of a UK-available alternative to Flex Bond? I'm spraying with Plastidip, and wondering how best to prepare my foam _before_ spraying.
I like using Mod-Podge before sealing.
@@EvilTedSmith Thank you very much for replying. I since bought some stuff called Seal Prime from a UK cosplay supplier, although I've not been able to test it yet.
Hero of craft and light :)
We need a build video ted
Ha ha,,
NO WAY!!! I just finished watching it, I was absolutely floored by the props and costumes and sets and makeup. It was all absolutely gorgeous and spot on!! And it's so exciting to see that you contributed to that masterpiece!! You're one of my favorite creators!
Wow, thank you!
That's a HUGE CRITTER!!! Imagine getting up for a midnight snack and seeing that fella just hanging out.💀
