I’ve been in front of the shroud of Turin. And it is the image of Jesus. And it is because of the experience I received in front of it. It’s Him. No words can do it justice, the strength, the love. I keep copies of the image in my purse I carry with me everywhere. In case I need to show anyone. It’s Him. It’s His Holy Face. May we eternally contemplate Him and adore Him.

I am a Catholic, but how do you explain that they carbon dated it to the middle ages? Why won’t they let it be tested again if it was just one repaired fragment?

​​​@@bun197There a sampling problem with the analysis. High variance, if I understood correctly, and the conclusions invalid. It would seem that some damaged parts of the shroud had been mended by nuns some time back, and the sample contained a mixture of these more recent threads. There are multiple levels of evidence that date it to the time of Christ - pollen is a good one, and then I remember there's a dating based on cellulose that backs it up. Look for talks by Fr Spitzer.

@@bun197 this dating has been debunked as the shroud has been partially repaired. You have to set a portion on fire for carbon re-dating. I personally am not interested in continuing to burn the shroud of Turin in a neverending quest for "Whataboutism".

The bishop at the time wrote to Rome and told the Vatican that an imposter painted it. That FACT doesn't sway you, though, does it. And how would you even know it was Jesus? The fact that the man pictured is not anatomically correct isn't enough to sway you, either, though, is it?

When I showed my grade 1 and 2 students in religious education class pictures of the shroud, the b/w image, and the computer image of Jesus' face, they got so excited and full of joy. I had to make copies for all of them to take home. They ran to everyone who hadn't been in the class and told them: "We have a photo of the real Jesus!!!" That was a wonderful moment as a teacher.

Dear Bishop Barron, I don’t know how anyone could listen to your homily and not see the truth in your explanation. Jesus is truly risen! Please God let all who listen, absorb the words, come to understand and BELIEVE! Jesus Christ is risen!

Not to mention, 11 out of the 12 apostles died horrible deaths because they KNEW Jesus had risen and it was not a lie. No one dies for a lie. John, of course was spared martyrdom but still suffered prison, etc. Thanks Bishop Barron, for continuing to bring the Good News to all. God bless.

Just so you're aware, the 11 out of 12 figure is something we get more from Church Tradition. We have historical evidence for at least Paul, Peter and James the brother of John (and possibly Andrew and Thomas). I'm not denying the others, but an atheist or agnostic with no concept of Church Tradition will dispute the claim of the 11 Apostles being martyred.

I love being Catholic. I have NEVER felt more connected in my life to something so magnificent and holy in my life. Thank you for bringing me to His feet, my Queen Mother called me to Her Beloved Son

I recommend you sit in Adoration at a Church near you. Sit with our Lord Jesus Christ. Don't even pray necessarily. Just sit with Him. It is where Jesus Christ revealed Himself to me after a decade of a non belief desert. I intellectualized myself out of believing (also, environmental influences living in San Francisco). Don't stress, God is with you, beautiful Girl.

Thank you for mentioning the Shroud of Turin. I'd heard of it and knew some stuff about it. After watching your sermon I searched for videos on the shroud, and ended up watching a conversation on Pints With Aquinas about the shroud. I'm still processing exactly what's happening after learning much more about the shroud, but it has definitely been very moving and faith-deepening. Those are probably not the right words, but something profound happened within me for spending time with it. Thank you again.

In the old Jewish tradition if the master of the house had to leave the table during a meal but intended to come back he would fold his napkin and put it neatly to one side.When Jesus left his head cloth folded neatly to one side he wanted to let us know that He Will Be Back.

As a former Post Newsweek TV Group investigative reporter I went to the Shroud of Turin Museum when it was in Atlanta. I was taken back by the exact replica of it and the markings. Of course I also saw the negative photograph. Then last year NewsMax did a long up to date article on the Shroud and I was even more amazed. Of course the article brought out the INTENSE LIGHT of radiation and that interpretation I truly believe will some day soon be replicated with all the scientific advanced we are seeing! HE HAS RISEN INDEED!🙏

I started going back to church recently. After a long time of turning away from what, I feel, is what God was telling me to do. Recently, I made the first step, and last week a second step. I have a church now, I have a support system from those I have met / remet there. I couldn't go to church today due to my dog having some stomach issues (best way to put it), and I looked up an Easter Sermon and found this. Thank you. Truly, thank you so much. My grandfather, my hero, was a preacher for 60-70 years. I learned more life long lessons from that man than anyone else I've ever known. He wouldn't like that I missed church, but he would like to know that I found someone of his caliber. Thank you so much. I was staying in a guest room outside enclosure at a Carmel in Turin in 1978 when there was the special exposure of the Shroud for a conference of international sindonologists when many of these things were discovered. (Two years before I had been a postulant inside for a year). Other guests were two of the sindonologists, so I was able to ask many questions over meals. I myself had had a very strong spiritual experience after seeing the scourge marks. A priest I knew at the Consolata shrine nearby told me that the confessionals there were full all day long every day for the duration of this special time (I think about two weeks) the queues entailed about a 2+ hour wait to see the shroud. I think it had not been exhibited then for several decades before. It was an enormous privilege, and I am very much “an apostle for the Holy Shroud”. !! +

I well remember all the info and film of the Shroud in the 1970s. The 'disproving of its age' and authenticity. And years later scientists look at it again and find the original fabric is authentic and from the date and place Jesus lived and died: the fabric originally tested was from pieces sewn in after the fire. I never stopped believing about it. However I know physical things can point us to Him but believers when they believe know Him without the physical things. If you know what I mean. He is risen. Alleluia! ❤🙏

@@carolhannah4635 It was in 1978 that it was decided the shroud was indeed of the right time and place to be authentic. All later objections have been disproved. There were many crucified people, but none other than Jesus fit so well. However there is still no physical proof it is HIS shroud, so no official statement has been made by the Magisterium. But several Popes have declared their belief in it unofficially. +

In addition to the four gospels there is also evidence of the Resurrection in a fifth Gospel -- the Shroud of Turin -- from the markings of a crucified man down to the blood type (AB positive) found almost exclusively in the Jewish population. But most baffling to researchers is the creation of a 3-D image by a burst of light that science has to this day repeatedly failed to reproduce.

I have no doubt the shroud is authentic. It is a gift, particularly to the modern age that could apply photographic technology, and provide proof of His resurrection. But our world is so mired in materialism it resists this evidence, because if the shroud is true, then everything else in the gospels must also be true.

Bishop Baron, In the Megyn Kelly interview, I like how you taught how we speak and can change reality, just as God speaks and so it becomes reality. I think there would be a lot of value in you exploring more about how modern science supports what we believe as Christians and the intersection of scientific findings and Christianity, from creation to quantum physics. The stories in the Bible are usually told from a parable type point of view, as old stories from a time with a lack of worldly understanding - but I believe we are beginning to understand that the Bible is supported scientifically as well. I think people would benefit from a more modern look at the Bible, in light of our current scientific understandings. You are truly one of a handful of people that are instrumental in fighting for the good of humanity.

Amen. I get so discouraged when I hear ppl still think this is all a fairy tale. Yet, I lean into when Jesus was silent during His trial. He had done everything yet there were still scoffers. We pray for conversions and preach the Gospel through word & action to those who will listen. Peace.
