Here on F&M Homestead we raise and hatch out many quail. We house our quail in our rabbitry with the rabbits. They are in rabbit cages that are hang from rafters. Their cages never need cleaning because their droppings fall through the wire floor. Also we feed them All Flock Feed. Quail like to throw their food around, so I've taken plastic Tupperware containers with lids and cut round holes in the side so they have to stick their head inside the container to eat. If they fling their food it just stays inside the container. No more wasted feed. Big money saver.

Can quail handle cold weather? I live in Ohio so it does get cold in the winter but not like way up north. I raised rabbits outside in a dog kennel and added a strong roof. I have the outside of it covered with tarps to protect from rain, wind and snow. I still have lot of rabbit cages left. I'd like to convert it over to raising quail.

I know your hearts in the right place and you take care of your birds but one thing I've learned from raising my own quail is that they really do like to be able to see outside.. if you watch your quail they're always trying to see up past the planks... some might say they're trying to jump out.. no, because if they can see outside they wont jump at the edges of their cages / coups, they love to exercise their wings and fly a bit and run and hop forward and jump backwards, they're just beautiful little birds.. all the very best !!

Thanks! I can't take credit for it, but it is a very neat design! I am really loving the quail eggs and they are SO MUCH easier than chickens so far! I think they are more cold hardy than chickens to! I am worried about snakes though, so I really need to put another layer or wire on the hutch! Will definitely check out your video!

I am watching a lot of homesteading vids because I'm getting a farm at the end of this year hopefully. It's been tough to find a place we would really like to be in, along with the area because we are in Palmdale, CA. I love quails. I first tried quail eggs in a recipe that my husband made from his Filipino background and it was great. I think they are the cutest and sweetest little birds. I love what you are doing and how you are looking for new things to do to the Hutch. It is always important I believe to be aware of predators and know that all animals love being in a place that they can see light and enjoy the air. It's a biggie for me because that's why I want a homestead. To be outside planting, taking care of my animals and enjoying my retirement years. Big smile here and I am a follower! I hope you have a wonderful day, looking forward to catching up with your vids. Anna Banana!

Are you buying them to sell eggs/ meat at your farmers market? Around here there's only one person selling the eggs and she sells them for 6.00 dollars for 18 eggs I think! So far they have been easy to raise! I may try to hatch more soon to increase our flock and sell! First I need an incubator!!

Nice! Is the feed you're feeding at least 24% protein? You will get a better egg production and health with higher protein, their metabolism requires more than do chickens. Another option if you can get in your area is a turkey starter crumble for baby turkeys. It's usually around a 28% protein. Quail are a fun bird to have and a great addition to any homestead.

This is my first video of yours that I have watched of yours so if you have already addressed these in a different video I'm sorry. I found a formula for quail feed and got my local mill to make it and it was under $10 a bag so let me know if you get enough quail to be worth getting your mill to make it for you. I'm not trying to make any money off the formula it just makes almost 1000lb so 8birds would take forever
