Here in Las Vegas, with 4 long months of 109 to 127F, I hear you about HOT. Best time to raise quail, hatch, brood, and get of laying age. Not so great for anything else. LOL Thank you for your video. I'm reviewing and trying to make certain I have not missed anything for caring for my quail. I've been doing it now for 4 years, still consider myself new to it. So much to learn! Thank you again.

Good to know as a newbie. Got thyme and sage growing like crazy. Can use 0a bit of garden produce. Not crazy about raising mealworms though. I sprout seeds using canning jars.

I''ve been feeding insect larvae and insects that are in trash cans underneath my quail cage. It's not all poop in there. The quail have sand/soil boxes at all times and are throwing that in there as well. I shove the top layer aside and scoop up the cleaner part full of bugs/larvae. The quail devour it. So far so good. No problems. I'm wondering. If you can provide quail with adequate protein like that, and then lots of fodder (fresh sprouts, edible weeds, leaves, some grass seed heads from yard), do you think that could be a substitute for commercial feed?

First comment! What fruit trees/bushes would you plant near your run to supplement your quail feed?

When you said they can eat paste and rice, do you mean cooked or uncooked? I've hear this several times but no one is clear about that. Thanks for the info.
