Why Urban Homesteaders should get Quails BEFORE Chickens!

Комедия

We love our chickens, but just recently got our first quail and we have realized there are a lot of great benefits of quails that make them much easier and better to raise for the urban homesteader. If you are just starting homesteading, I suggest getting quails before chickens, I wish I did!

This was great, thanks, I have been researching "is raising quail profitable" for a while now, and I think this has helped. You ever tried - Eeyila Rudimentary Expediency - (should be on google have a look ) ? It is a great one of a kind product for discovering how to raise healthy and fertile quail without the hard work. Ive heard some great things about it and my friend got excellent results with it.

We raised quail for years and years, literally thousands of them and 12 different species. The quail species you have are called Coturnix. Quail are cool little birds for sure.

I had them for both meat, eggs and even "look pretties". Cots like you have I had for meat and eggs. 4 Coturnix eggs = 1 chicken egg. First time you do any baking like cookies or cake with quail eggs, you will not like chicken eggs for baked goods again. Pickled quail eggs are also awesome. We additionally had several new world type quail, like bobwhite as a species, and several different color varieties of them. Butler bob whites are the biggest and they were also a great meat quail and eggs, but with new world quail, they are all seasonal layers unlike you cots that lay year round. We also raised Gambel's, California Valley, Blue Scale, and Mountain. New world quail require special permits in most states. Unlike your old world quail like the Coturnix, do not require permits in many states, but some do, I would suggest folks check their local regulations before purchasing. We also raised other old world species like the Button or King quail and the African Harlequin. Those are both a much smaller quail used for "look pretties" in a home aviary. In case you didn't know, or maybe you do, the color of Coturnix quail you have are called pharaoh or wild type. Many folks use "Pharaoh" as the name, but that is in correct. It appeared you also have a tuxedo in there as well. With the wild type cots, the males will have a reddish breast and they have a very distinctive call, whereas the females will have a drab, spotted chest.

We were a licensed quail hatchery. I can help out with pheasants too, we also raised ringnecks by thousands for our own consumption but mainly for wild release. Additionally, we had Red Golden, Yellow Golden, Lady Amherst and Reeves. These days, we just have chickens, turkeys and peafowl as far as poultry goes. :) I'm still a state licensed NPIP/AI tester, if you ever have a question, maybe I can help.

Yes, he is correct on the girls not making noise besides a little chirps every once in a while but if the males are separated from the females they will be crowing a lot until they have a female with them. It isn’t as loud as a chicken but if you are in the same room as them they can be loud, so make sure they are in a separate room then you.

Been raising quail off and on for 45 years. I raise them for the meat and eggs. You can even make pets ot of them. I turn some lose just so I can watch them in the yard. I can hollow at them and feed them and they will come up to my feet to eat. They are lots better than chickens to raise. The eggs you can fry them..boil them of scramble them. They are more healthy than a chicken egg and taste better. Chefs use them to cook with.
