    When I was younger, I was confronted by anti-catholics with quotations from the writings of St. Paul. I thought St. Paul's writings were vaguely written causing confusion, his words were used against the teachings of the church. After reading his life and conversion , I came to understand the great man. Jesus must have considered his qualifications that in spite of being rabidly anti-Christian, he was chosen. A learned man a student of a well known rabbi, faithful Jew, Roman citizen (which he smartly took advantage of), member of diaspora (that he could easily relate with the gentiles and the pagans). With all these qualities, he was able to convert hundreds of thousands of non-Jews in short period of time, more than most of the original apostles. That said, he was burdened with great responsibility in keeping up with the seemingly never ending disputes, issues and confusions among the new converts whose previous beliefs were at odds with their new found faith. One can sense this great burden on his shoulder to his addresses to different churches and peoples. How he dealt with them? Just like a good motivational coach, he tended to use generalization, or motherhood statements. "Grace Reigns for Eternal Life Through Jesus Christ (Romans 5)' is one of them. Have faith and you'll be saved. My mom used to motivate me, 'study hard, finish your study and your life will become easier'. After graduation, I found it harder, more challenging to say the least, mostly downs than ups. Only after years of experience and hard jobs and determination did I realize what mom meant. I see this was how St Paul meant it.

    great insights. Thank you.for sharing them. Surely sola Fide anti-Catholics did not read all what St Paul wrote: "if I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not love, I am nothing." 1 Cor. 13:2; " If anyone does not love the Lord Jesus Christ, let him be accursed. Come, O Lord!" 1 Cor. 16:22; "but declared first to those at Damascus, then at Jerusalem and throughout all the region of Judea, and also to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God and do works proving their repentance" Acts 26:20;"Do you not know that to whom you yield yourselves as slaves to obey, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness?" Rom. 6:16, etc.

    It's interesting how unpersuaded Paul was to the truth and reality of Christ, pre-conversion, and then how Paul's teaching compelled those he taught. He was so defensive of his position, taking great effort to hate in good conscience what he thought God wanted him to hate. I wonder if we may have more lessons to learn from Paul.

    Kind of reminds you how protestants hate the Catholic Church … the one thing Jesus built and left on earth before he ascended.

    The Prophets foreshadowed the coming of Christ, but were incapable of experiencing Christian conversion. The Incarnation changed reality. Reality was again changed at the Resurrection, the two cannot be separated, nor can these new realities be separated from The Cross. We enter into these new realities at the moment of our conversion, reborn into the One Reality of God's Love for us. We may have many redirections as we grow toward the fullness of the new life which Christ has prepared for us in the next world. There we will be completely transformed in a clarity we cannot fully experience here. But to say that Paul had a redirection in his understanding of God on that Damascene journey of faith, rather than a recreation of his being in a transcendent conversion, simply is not true. One who sees can choose to ignore what they see, but they can’t go back to being unable to even imagine sight. This is only an infinitesimally tiny comparison to existence before and after Paul’s, and hopefully our own, conversions. Thank you for listening to my opinion.

    Paul tells us what his thorn in the flesh is in the next sentence "messenger of Satan". St Paul worked tirelessly to build the Kingdom of God and Satan comes along to destroy it all by showing seeds of doubt.

    St Paul wasn't spoon fed and must've been a best interface to Greek disciples, Gospelers before embarking on Epistles. Some posed Query's Why did the Criminal on cross was the first to be Saved but not likely Heavens same day as Jesus, We're all promised in Eternity very moment Believed in Him because Bodily dead Risen?! I think St Paul's years in exiles and Hometown put him write all the Complexity he deserved from St Peter's John's kudos...

    Did Jesus know Latin ?

  • @finallythere100

    @finallythere100

    You mean did He speak Latin...As you likely know, Jesus mainly spoke Aramaic.. It is believed that He could have spoken Latin with Roman soldiers, as it was used in courts and with Roman soldiers. .Are you asking bc Latin is the language of Roman Catholicism,? Greek, Latin, Hebrew are all sacred languages written on the Cross, Latin was eventually chosen as the language to preserve the dogma of the faith, bc as it was becoming a dead language, it would not change over time,
