Marcus Aurelius’ Meditations has truly changed my life for the better, setting me on a path of self-improvement
0:34 - Philosophy as personal medicinal remedy. 1:29 - Connects universally despite ancient origins. 2:24 - Bestselling, influential, unique philosophical work. 3:01 - Addresses personal, universal human challenges. 3:46 - Offers timeless, universal wisdom. 5:46 - Reveals ever-changing personal insights. 7:22 - Encourages philosophical self-improvement. 9:09 - Illustrates historical humility and growth. 9:53 - Advocates for interconnected, unified humanity. 10:14 - Written beautifully in non-native language.
another must read book is 'The Philosophy of Epicurus', Dover Thrift Edition.....an absolute gem, the man was a masterful thinker and he's at least equal to the Stoics. His masterful argument, 'Death is nothing to us', cannot be ignored by anyone.
Thank you! I picked up a copy last week and began the reading journey. Immediately I learned something valuable about avoiding the teaching of sophists. I realized much of my university courses were trying to teach us what to think instead of thinking critically and with purpose.
This book has actually saved my life and given me a different perspective on things. It has taught me discipline, self control, and how to approach your fears. I remember I went to Italy a few years ago and saw a statue of him and under my breath said thank you.

This book should be a necessary read amongst all high school and college students.
This book changed my life profoundly. It is a gift to humanity that I think Marcus would be embarrassed about.
Thank you, Ryan, your daily emails inspire me to be a better person. Stoicism is like learning how to play a musical instrument, you just gotta keep at it ❤
I touch this book daily.

Same. Important part of my day
One of the greatest books ever written.
I have been enjoying Marcus and Seneca lately. Such inspiring books !!!!
Nice video brother!
Thank you, Ryan.
I read it last month and I am read it again. Love the book and I find it very similar to the Dhammapada in Buddhism. ❤❤❤❤
Brilliant!
I thought it was a giant passport in the thumbnail lol

Me too haha
You are the best 🎉
Excellent video as always. Maybe you should cover Antoninus Pius as well. I think he doesn't get enough credit in the stoic cirlce.
Ryan, can you kindly put the link of where you bought that specific version of Meditations book?
Great meditation to start the day. I carry Marcus Aurelius' Meditations both in my car and in my home library- it's a great wholistic lens to view modern life in.

I carry the Meditations every where I go. Every time I open a page, it gives me a good rub to the brain and brings me back to living my life in accordance to the Emperor's Wisdom. Praise Marcus!!!
I got 4 different translations. Gregory Hays, Penguin Classics, Annoted Edition, and I'm currently reading the Norvegian one with the original title "To myself".
Donald Robertson "How to think like a Roman Emperor" is also a good book to read.
Have 3 different versions of meditations on my audible
For Seneca I'm not sure if I should get Letters or a collection of 10 of his most famous essays.
which copy do you have? Mine is the 1909 Meric Casaubon translation

Gregory Hays, Penguin, The Annoted Edition and the Norvegian translated "To Myself".
I’ll give it a try 📕📖🗿
Adding to need to read 🤓

Nice Corporate Profile pic 😂
I wonder how many people have been put off reading it because of how Marcus begins the book. Hearing a long list of names we do not know and why he thanks them isn't the best start to a book. 😂
I just got Seneca Letters on Ethics
Also worth reading Cause Unknown: The Epidemic of Sudden Deaths in 2021, 2022 and 2023 by Ed Dowd. 1.1 million US citizens dying suddenly peaking Sept 2022 - CDC stumped, but Stoics know the only variable introduced to the US population was COVID booster shots. 2 months after their boosters from VA Clinic, lost my dad and my friend who were both Vets: Korean and Vietnam respectively. I will continue to practice Stoicism to my abilities, but it is challenging - just like we were told in Meditations.

for me, too hard to understand, I tried it but my philosophy skills are 0.
I read it and understood nearly nothing

I have a similar issue, I read a page a day and I feel like I don't really take anything in from it ..I definitely think I'm doing it wrong

Happened to me because I picked up the George Long translation, was very outdated, from the 1800s. Got about 8 pages in. The Gregory Hays translation was a huge change and I’m almost done reading it. Much easier read with modern language

Keep watching Ryan's video he explains it pretty well. It's not a book written for the reader, it was a book written for himself. It's a diary. You have to frame it in that and gather lessons in that manner.
"this is the maybe the only book of its kind..." yet the bible exists.. Come on People... This book is not even close to the wisdom books of the bible.. oh, and you get to know the person of Jesus Christ..
Christ is King ☦️
How long do you think this guy can milk the life out of Stoicism for? I mean he must be struggling for new things to say about this book!
Love the book, but I think the Bible is the best book ever written.

The bible is a great book also, doesn’t take away anything from Marcus Aurelius meditations. 💯

You can argue that the Bible is a collection of books (66) and not a single one. Technically, its a series of scrolls.

Ngl, tired of watching the same video, every few weeks you make a video about the same book😅.
Can't you talk about something other than meditations? it's getting old. Btw yes I have read it
