EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT GROWING HAZELNUTS | HOW TO PLANT HAZELNUTS | KAKO SADITI LJEŠNJAK

Live at the farm! Our hardworking daddy Slaven, planting and sharing everything you need to know about growing hazelnuts! Super proud of this man! With God's grace, hubby finally started the first phase of our hazelnut farm. We have two variety of hazelnuts: Hazelnut Roman (an Italian heirloom variety) and Istarski (a heirloom Croatian variety). He mainly started growing hazelnuts for his bees, as he will expand his beekeeping next year! Hazelnuts are good for bees. Hazelnuts flower very early and the bees need that early spring pollen for their food supply after the long winter. It is a good source of pollen and nectar for honeybees! Slaven will also intercrop hazelnuts with alpine regina strawberries after he finishes planting all the hazelnut seedlings (please stay tuned for the separate video). A first hazelnut crop can be expected within two to five years of planting the tree and the tree can live up to 200 years old! It is a good long term project for the future of our kids. Looking forward to plant more each year. For now, we started with 120 seedlings with 20 extra in case some seedlings won't survive over the winter. We just planted within our house property, for our bees to benefit the pollen and nectar. Too much work for this man and truly appreciate him doing all these for the future of our family. God bless you, daddy! ♥️

One thing that is important is to add compost and fertilizer as top dressing when planting. This very much reduces risk of burn. The worms bring it down. Also it is best to put trees into the soil that they will be in. Good job Daddy!

How cold was it when you planted? How are the trees coming along? Did most of them survive. I just received an order of hazelnut trees and it’s my first time planting them. We have had a few cold days with frost but the ground isn’t frozen and we have some warmer weather this week and next. I’m trying to decide if I should plant them because the trees are dormant anyways and similar size to yours in this video.

You should never put manure or fertiliser underneath the trees as when it rots down the root ball will drop down into that void and snap off the roots that have gone outwards, all manure or fertiliser should be put on the surface so that it washes down into the plant roots

I wish you 2 good luck💪🥰👍 Have 1 or 2 trees from species that grow in Northen-Europe. Just added my firts Hazulnut tree. Traveled from Holland to Romania a few years back, beautyfull landscape to homestead or farm.
