    I found out about these products from Sandro in Australia. He’s the absolute best when it comes to paint correction! I recently purchased a 1998 BMW Z3 and I’m still working on decontamination. 25 years of neglect is tough to clean, but I’m getting there. I’ll be applying these products once every panel is completely cleaned & my touch up painting has been done. Can’t wait to see how it turns out!! I’ve never done a ceramic coating before, but thanks to Sandro, I know how. It’ll be in the low 80’s here in Hawaii when I start the coating. The timing is my biggest concern 😬 I’ll try 2 minute intervals until I can determine how long to wait. Don’t want to have to make corrections for sure. Thanks for the video.

    I’ve done three personal cars now with UK3.0 + SiC- two black cars and a dark silver. All three did 2 coats UK3.0 and last top coat SiC. The black cars were definitely harder to apply the SiC after 1 hour from 2nd coat UK- and by harder, I mean light hazing streaks more noticeable and harder to wipe off. Had to use CarPro Essence to pull off and redo. Found it was much easier applying the SiC after the UK after waiting 4+ hours in a garage at 75F. On the last car (silver), had no streaks. All in all, probably combination of too much SiC product on first cars, as well as flash time.

    Great video BTW, I feel you dug down deep into this product and how it works. I'm thinking 2 layers of UK and then wait several hours then apply 2 layers of SiC. Is that a good idea? I'm thinking of maximum gloss, slickness and hydro. Also the front clip of the car and lower sides are filmed with Xpel 7mm ppf. How does UK bond with ppf? Shall I just skip those areas and just go with SiC X2 layers on the PPF instead? I've heard SiC works well at binding to plastic surfaces better. Shall I bother with Dlux on the plastics and wheels since SiC works well in those areas, since silica carbide is works well at high temperatures. I just don't want to spend more money when a product can work well in that area too. All suggestions and comments welcome 🙏

  • @SkyCarCare

    Thank you so much! We really appreciate the feedback. 2 Layers UK with 1 of SIC is a fantastic idea as long as you do not mind investing the time for the extra coat of UK. UK bonds well with PPF generally speaking. SOME types of PPF (especially a few of the ones that have a coating already built in) may not work as well with it but usually you will find UK works better on PPF at repelling unwanted "crap" than the coatings that are in the Ppf does. UK may not last as long on PPF as on clear coat but still a great idea and well worth it if it applies well to it.

  • @SkyCarCare

    @SkyCarCare

    Жыл бұрын

    Hi Andrew, it depends on how many coats you have on the paint and how long it has cured or aged. If you have 2 coats and it has been fully cured then a finish polish and fine pad will not easily remove it but the bigger question is "why am I trying to remove it?" Unless a coating is applied incorrectly or applied to a surface that it should not be applied to then there is no reason to remove it. If you just want to abrade it and gloss it up and apply another coat or something else then a finishing polish will do that no problem. At this point I am confident that SIC lasts longer than 2 years in a typical environment. The orange towel I see in the video here is a CARPRO 2 face towel. The Microfiber Madness slogger towel is green.

    Thanks for the question and Im happy to assist! First I guess we should define what we mean by the word "last". Since we cannot tell that the coating is there except by how it beads water, most customers will assume the coating is bad and only "lasts" for as long as they see beads. IF that is the definition we choose for last then my response is as follows: For ANY coating to "last" (bead water well on its own with no topper) for 5 years, the car will have to be washed regularly with Reset, decontaminated with IronX regularly, and also should be garage kept at night. Beyond that it will come down to the environment. Now... If we define the phrase "how long does it last" as how long is it protecting the paint and we assume its ok for us to top it with Reload or other spray on methods like Hydrofoam every couple months, then in this case we could assume that any of the CARPRO coatings are lasting that long if properly washed and contaminated regularly. In truth, we could never know this for sure because the toppers are adding extra hydrophobics however we could assume that nothing is wearing the coating down or at least VERY slowly if we always keep a topper on it. I wish I had an easy answer for you like "Use X for this years and use Y for this many years but its just not reality. I WOULD say that based on current stats of products that have been around for 5 years then I would say "CQUARTZ UK with a top coat of SiC" could be your 5 year coat and CQUARTZ Sic or UK by itself could be your 2 year coat. But again please note the reality to share with your clients is "what you will experience and for how long is based on how you care for the car". If they want you to guarantee a certain time then they need to bring it to you at at least yearly intervals so you can refresh and reapply something in case they have damaged the hydrophobics or surface with poor maintenance. How often they bring it and where you build that cost in depends on your business model.

  • @SkyCarCare

    @SkyCarCare

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hi Matthew, thanks for the message. We recommend one coat of UK and then one coat of SiC. Having said that, if you have very soft/ porous paint then you could do (2) coats of UK and a (1) coat of SiC. Beyond 3 layers we really believe it is a waste of time as each coat reaches closer to a point of diminishing returns. One coat of each will "last" at least 2+ years. I put the word "last" in quotes because we need to ask ourselves what we mean by "last". Depending on the maintenance of the car and the environment in which it is driven it will accumulate damage, slower, faster, or not at all. If it is parked in a garage and never driven, then it will never wear off. If it is left outside in nasty elements and never washed then it will take on damage quickly. If you drive it as much as one would expect on average and wash it properly every 2 weeks with Reset wash and Microfiber Madness tools then it will last 2 ~ 5 years in most environments. Over that time it will pickup imperfections on top of the coating. If well cared for then you can keep it very nearly swirl free for years but will likely accumulate a swirl here or there over the years. The best part is really that it makes it super easy to clean and if maintained then any damage you do get will be in the CQUARTZ and not in your clear coat.

    Hi, I read in another comment mentioning that unless your car is washed every two weeks, the coating is actually worst than just leaving the paint as it. I'm curious if this is specific to c.quartz or ceramic coatings in general? Also, can we apply c.quartz SiC to a car that already had ceramic coating (ceramic pro 9h) previously applied to it? Since it's been multiple years since the ceramic coating, I plan to apply additionally the c.quartz SiC and follow up with a layer of c.quartz Gliss. Thanks!

  • @SkyCarCare

    @SkyCarCare

    2 жыл бұрын

    Great question! They are referring to ceramic coatings in general... It is a huge generalization (the 2 weeks) but it has some basis in truth. Some coatings will do better than others and WHERE the vehicle is parked has a HUGE impact... If it is parked next to the ocean outside for 2 weeks without being washed then yeah... I would agree that it will LOOK worse if coated because coatings repel the water and dirt and make it bead up. In a bad environment without care those beads are going to turn into spots of salt and dirt and minerals and start etching into the coating. However the car would not be better protected... It would simply be allowing the damage to each all of the paint and etch it equally. CQUARTZ SIC over a base coat of CQUARTZ UK is probably the best combo on the market you could buy but all coatings have there limit depending on environment and neglect. Backing up a bit.... If you have a car that is garaged at night and in an average environment during the day then it is better off in every way to have it coated with ceramic. Once you go BEYOND 2 weeks in washing is where you are asking a lot of the ceramic. On a daily driver it is best to wash it every 2 weeks with Reset and that is what I try to do regularly. Sometimes I will go 3 weeks... I am in Florida (garaged at night) parked in sun all day. Sun and lots of rain is what we get... If you are in the Salt belt through winter and not getting the salt off that is definitely going to have an impact and ruin the hydrophobic of your coating but you will still be protecting the paint. topping a coating that is a few years old with SiC.... I would recommend a decontamination and a light finishing polish before applying SiC. If you do not want to polish it then I would say to top it with Essence PLUS which is made for repairing damaged coatings.

Just to better understand your last paragraph, if I'm ok with the current condition of my (few years old) Ceramic Pro 9H coating and do not wish to do any polishing, there should be no problems just topping off with a coat of SiC and Gliss afterwards? I always wondered if one should only apply ceramic coating to previously untouched paint with clear coat only.

    @@oxyg3n520 My pleasure! There is a hardness level to SiC but we don't promote those things the way some do because it is so disingenuous and fraudulent. What I mean is that when someone promotes "9H" you are left thinking it means that your coating is less likely to get scratched. In reality it doesn't actually mean that. I have seen plenty of coated cars that are sold "9H" and even a lower quality microfiber towel easily scratches them. To keep it simple I will just say that anything that calls itself "9H" will not be any harder against scratches than CQUARTZ SiC will. The truth is these coatings are simply too thin to make a huge difference in hardness / stopping swirls. They do make dirt come off easier and which of course helps prevent swirls but imagine placing a piece of paper on a pillow... its an exaggeration but if you have a piece of paper on a block of wood it is hard to poke a hole through the paper. If you place it on a pillow then you can poke through the paper very easily. Therefore regardless of the coating, the softness of the original paint beneath it still matters and affects how easily it scratches. Finally, the way a company tests their coating for 9H is to create samples and send them to the lab. The coating company prepares the sample, Paints the sample, BAKES the sample, AND coats the sample with as many coats as they want! Therefore... They can use the hardest paint on the planet, then bake it to hotter than any actual car would be baked, they can coat it with ANY coating they want (not even their own coating if they felt like it). What's more they could coat it FIFTY times if they wanted... and then bake that at ANY temperature to get the coating as hard as physically possible. As you know, in the real world we cannot bake the coating on the car beyond 140F ~ 170F +/- without risking damage to the paint and causing it to potentially fail within a few years. Nor is it realistic to put 50, 20, 10, or even 5 layers on a car. The LAB does not even receive the sample until LATER long after all the things were done that cannot be done on an actual car! The lab does not oversee the application of any of it or even know what is on the sample! All the lab does is take the samples they are sent and test them... Even they do not know what they are testing... They only know what the test says when they are done. Bottom line, the coating manufacturer can send anything they want to that lab and then claim the results are for something they are not. Last paragraph: I understand you do not need any polishing work and are happy with how it looks which is great! BUT, there is no way to guarantee a ceramic coating will bond without getting that surface mechanically clean (polishing it). The fact you are putting a layer of coating on an already cured layer of coating does not in and of itself pose an issue. However, the fact that coating has had many dirts and contaminants on it means there is probably some of them inside the coatings pores that can get trapped there when it expands and contacts due to heat. Additionally, The SIC MIGHT not bond well with the Ceramic Pro 9H. (That part should be fairly easy to tell by trying it in an inconspicuous spot but you won't know for sure). You night find you have to kind of work it in a bit to stop it from beading up. OR you might find it is just difficult to apply OR it might go fine... OR it might immediately leave a strange stained look (hence the recommendation to try a small inconspicuous spot first. None of those things will happen if you use Essence PLUS on top instead... If you choose to go ahead and do it then I would recommend the following for best chance of success in lieu of no polishing: Wash well with Reset Rinse well and get most of water off Iron X the surface very well Wash well with Reset again Wash and dry thoroughly Verify there is nothing left on it like Tar, Bugs, etc... If there is then this needs to be removed as well with various means or cleaners. Wipe down with Eraser Then coat. I would perhaps focus on only one panel and see how the whole thing goes and how it is acting after a month. If all goes well then worth your time to do the whole car. Best, Corey

    Great Video! Quick question here: What's the different between GLISS and SiC? I always applied two layers of UK 3.0 and a layer of GLISS on top. If I use the SiC to replace the GLISS, could I apply the GLISS on top of SiC? Thanks!

  • @SkyCarCare

    Hi Jack, they are completely different products. SiC is a complete ceramic coating while GLISS is more of a "Lite" ceramic. To answer your question, you COULD do that but I would consider it a waste of time probably... I would just add the SiC on top of the UK and be done BUT my recommendation is to try it 50/50 in a test! Do one side of the car and some horizontal panels with UK = SiC and do the others with all 3 like you stated and see if your idea is worth the extra time. If you do the test, be sure to let us know how it goes!

    Hopefully it came out better than you expected! The most important step in the process on our video (other than prep) is to dial in the timing on the first section BEFORE moving on. If you find it hard to remove then you wipe off sooner. Dial this in on the initial panel with some testing on one small area. Easy to fix one area but not to fix an entire car. • @SkyCarCare

    @SkyCarCare

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hi Tio, Actually it is a GREAT question... I wish everyone would consider this before investing in a coating. 3-4 weeks is definitely pushing it for a ceramic coating to stay in tip top shape. That is, unless it is garaged and not daily driven in which case that is not too big a deal. It all comes down to how much abuse it will see during those 3-4 weeks. If it is a daily driver and is parked outside 24/7 then I would say skip the ceramic if your goal is to have it looking good year round. That is because the coating will take a lot of damage to its hydrophobic and will likely pick up some water spots and not look perfect if cared for like that. A different option would be to hit it with CARPRO Essence and then with Essence PLUS as the protection :). Then, you can just re-apply Essence PLUS a couple times a year after a thorough decontamination. Or another option would be to just keep it up with Hydrofoam as your sealant every after you wash each month.

    Is SiC a TiO2 base or SiO2 base with SiC added? Is SiC glossier than UK 3.0?

  • @SkyCarCare

    @SkyCarCare

    Жыл бұрын

    SiC is a ceramic with Silica Carbide integrated within. (Sio2 + SiC Hybrid). I would say it is more reflective but not darker than UK imo. I would also not be surprised if nobody can tell the difference in a blind side by side test where both cars were polished to an identical level. And that goes for any quality coating... Polishing will bring the gloss. Coating will protect it.

    We recommend one coat of UK and then one coat of SIC on top. 1/1. IF you wanted to go further then you could do 2 coats of UK and the third coat SIC. 2/1. Doing more than that in our opinion offers negligible rewards and isn't worth the time.

  • @SkyCarCare

    The more coats you add, the faster they flash and more finicky things can get so if doing 3 coats then 45 minutes might be better than an hour. Also depends on temperatures. If you were in Arizona and 110F in your shop then you might want to back off a bit more on the time and don't wait more than 45 minutes whilst if you were in 50F temps then 75-80 minutes is feasible.

    Great question! NO, NEVER use Reload on a fresh application of SIC. CQUARTZ Sic is already super slick and has everything in it that it needs.
