I'm a firm believer that any wingshooter worth his salt and wanting to have a fantastic small bore cartridge in his arsenal should own a 28ga. Watching your turkey hunts and thinking about early season teal and dove hunts made me jump into it and what a sweet little cartridge it is. I love my 10 bores and I believe one of the best duck guns ever is the SBE 3, but damn, a 28 bore is just the sweetest little darling for close in work. A gentleman's bore for sure. Great video once again, Matt. 59 more sleeps until it all starts again; the 28 is hungry.

One problem is people think they need big bore shotguns for waterfowl. Sub 12 gauge will kill anything you want. Glad you like the 28 so much. You had great success last season with the 28.

Have used the #5 Win. SuperX (which were easy to find) in my 28 for pheasants last year and it knocked them down at 30yds just fine. The lighter gun weight of the 28 is also nice for a day of tromping around in the field.

@@joemama163you're right. I think there's a lot of off the cuff assumptions about the 28 because it's simply not a 20 or 12. It's equally as deadly at range. You just have to be accurate and know your pattern

Alot of the reasons you list are reasons I started using a .410. It's easier to carry and shoot with my bad shoulders. I just couldn't take the number of shots during dove season with the 12 gauge anymore. I saw a .28 gauge 870 at the local shop and I think it may be the ticket for waterfowl. The .410 is a little thin in the pattern at 30 yards.

I don't understand the in close mindset for the 28. TSS is 1.5 to twice the weight of lead. #5 lead is equivalent to 9 or 10 tss. Same weight but a ton more pellets that maintain their velocity. It shoots just as well just as far as a 20. If velocity is equal, the lethality is equal to any size bore
